Casio Watches?
Anyone ever use a Casio G-Shock watch? I just bought the DW5600E-1V model and really like it:
They seem to have a loyal following. One of few watches certified for space flight by NASA, waterproof to 200 meters, and only cost me $40. I’m impressed and have been wearing it non stop the past couple days.
Anyone else have or had one?

Yeah, I've had one for the past 6 months. Decided to give them a go after having some bad luck with a couple of "Wenger" Swiss Army brand watches. Pretty happy so far.

I found this one in the desert 17 years ago. It gains about a second every 3 or 4 months.

They have been around for quite sometime now and so I can only come to the assumption that they are good watches and people like them.
Personally, I like traditional mechanical watches so I don't own one.

I've been using that model watch since the early to mid 90's. They are one of the few watches I've owned that hold up working on drilling rigs and being exposed to diesel, mineral oil and synthetic oil based muds. I just bought me a new one about 4-5 months ago and I'm keeping my old one as a spare, but need to get the battery changed in it.

What was the matter with the Wenger? I do think the Victorinox watches, like their knives, are probably better.
Wenger is no more. Bought out maybe 10 years ago by Vic. I don't think Vic. has agreed to service or warranty the Wenger brand. But an independent watch service may be able to get parts and a battery and seals that fit.

I purchased this model several months ago and think it's by far the best time piece I've ever owned. Paid just over a "C" note but this thing has so many functions (e.g. moon phases, tides, accurate time update from U.S. time standard in CO, etc). Does everything except making me coffee in the morning.

What 's the 6:30 SUN vs. the 10:58 bit? Time in two zones? The date?

My G Shock GW6900-1 has been tough as nails. I bought it because of the following features:
Solar battery charger
Atomic clock that works all over the world
Easily changes between international time zones
Waterproof
It has many other functions that have never been used. Will buy another

Yes, it fell apart. Piece of junk, but you get what you pay for, hope you have better luck.

Too lazy to take a photo, but I bought one like this last year:
Solar powered, syncs with atomic clock, adjusts to time zone and allegedly never needs batteries. I like the accuracy, as the Seiko it replaced was off a minute or so each year or two.

I have a bunch of G Shocks. Prefer the solar, so I do not have to deal with the batteries. Great Watches!

I don't own one like yours but I have owned Casios before. They took a beating as a work watch every day and kept good time for many years. The Casio came with a lifetime guarantee and I kept the box and receipt for it. I believe it was about 7 years old when I dropped it on concrete and it quit working. I took the watch back in the original box with receipt and they replaced it with another watch. I even got a few bucks back because the watch I chose was a few bucks less cost than the Casio. Can't beat that deal. The store clerk said people seldom save the receipt let alone the box. They are made by Bulova I believe.

I had a Victorinox SAW for over 20 years, but it quit working last June. I was thinking about buying a Casio solar, but I liked the SAW so well I found another just like it (used, no band) on eBay for $30. It was much less scratched-up than my original and so far it seems to be working just fine. All I had to do was put a new expansion band on it.
Little known fact - Replacement quartz movements for many of the Swiss watches (including Victorinox) are fairly cheap, usually $15-20 on eBay, and there are many videos on YouTube which show exactly how to replace a movement. Only problem is that you need the tools to remove and reinstall the hands. I was going to do that on my Vic SAW, but it was cheaper to buy a used watch in working condition.

I can't knock a Timex, at least the newer quartz ones. I bought my wife a Timex for Christmas in 2006 and it still looks and works OK. I have needed to replace the batteries a few times though. It's a little difficult to pry off the back and then to snap it back on.

Back in the baseball strike year of 1994, Truman Jewelers on Ohio Route 91 in Willoughby, Wickliffe or Willowick, Ohio was selling Bulova watches with the Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo on the face. I bought one (I should have bought a couple) and it is working away on my wrist as I type this. The PC crowd will have to take it off my cold, dead arm.

Did you ask Swiss Army Brands about repair or replacement?
I wonder if they even offer repair services.
My TAG-Heuer Sports 2000 is in New York now, being repaired.
They found it had had water in it, as well as a dead battery. About six years ago, I let an unauthorized jewelry store repair man change the battery. I bet he didn't get a seal back in place right and water entered. He claimed to have pressure tested it, but I've since heard that the machine for those tests costs about $100,000 and is unlikely to be found in a local jewelry store.
They're replacing all gaskets, changing hands, replacing crown and crown channel, and the quartz movement. Cost is $328.20, and repair turnaround will take about two months.
I may buy a Casio if this happens again. One reason why I bought that TAG is that it's warranted to be waterproof to 660 feet.
I sold my Rolex Explorer 1 to buy the TAG-Heuer after finding that it now costs hundreds of dollars to clean and lube a Rolex. The good news is that I sold my Rolex for about what I had paid for it.

It is really amazing how inexpensive good wristwatches have become...
I love mechanical watches, and have a number of them, but I gotta say those quartz watches are great for inexpensive accuracy..

I have found it cheaper to buy a new Casio every year or two than it cost me to keep my old Seiko Quartz Pro Diver running. The Casios keep good time, but cost less than a Seiko band. I like the one with the big dial and high contrast numbering. Hey, it works for me.

I had a similar issue earlier this year, I went and had my Marathon GSAR battery replaced just for S&Gs as it was running just fine, a month after I had the battery replaced it was stopping and running super slow so I sent it back to Marathon and come to find out the person who did the battery replacment messed up the circuit and cost me 50$ to have it fixed and 2 months to get it back.
I bought a Casio G Shock to wear as a replacement and loved how tough it was so I gave it to my brother in law and he loves it
FYI if your looking for a Casio G shock go to Big 5 and buy it, they dont have the best selection but for 39.99 you cant go wrong.

I've kept a G-Shock (G100 model analog/digital mix type) for years as a backup...It now lives on JaysAndKays strap adapters, using one of their "Zulu" straps. It's always been a reliable, durable watch, and I have no meaningful complaints about it.
Though I mostly wear a Rolex Submariner (specifically, a 116610LN, for the watch guys)--and over the years other Rolexes and Omegas--that G-Shock is my go-to for when I know my arms will be deep in an engine bay, hacking brush with a machete in Texas summer, cleaning horse stalls, etc. I can't think of a better general purpose "beater" watch, and recommend them, often.
Bit of a warning: There exists such a thing as fake G-Shocks, and they're frequently sold to bargain hunters on sites like fleabay...I suggest buying only from authorized dealers (as with any watch), directly from Casio, or at least your local Walmart.

And that pretty much sums up everything. It's not about what others have, it's about what works for you - and that applies to much more than watches!

$22.00 Timex at Wally World 5 years ago for hunting, etc. so I can keep my Omega Sea Master for show. Original battery and keeps better tine than the $2800.00 Omega.

Is your Omega the quartz or the automatic Seamaster? They come both ways, and no mechanical watch, despite being a certified superlative chronometer, can match a quartz movement for accuracy.
Those buying automatic watches have in mind craftsmanship and overall beauty and prestige.
I have a couple of good Seikos and they are nice watches, but can't match the heavier, higher quality materials and looks of my TAG-Heuer. Even using the crown to set the time shows how much sturdier and classier the TAG is. But I admit I want some snob appeal in my watch, as with most other items that I buy.
Which is why my revolvers are Smiths, not from Astra or Taurus.
BTW, have you checked current prices on your Omega? If you've had it awhile, the price has probably gone up...a lot! I paid under a thousand for my Rolex and new ones of that model cost some $6,000.
A guy I know who recently bought another model of Rolex shelled out about $9800, including shipping, I think, as the local dealers didn't have that model in stock. That's just more than I'm willing to spend on a watch, unless I win a very large lottery.

Worn G-Shocks since the middle 90's. Currently have three, including the one in the OP's photo, the newest being 12 years old. I know Timex used to say, "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking," my G-Shocks have taken a lot more abuse for a lot longer than any of the Timex Ironman I used to wear.

I've used a Casio Pro-Trek for the past few months while my normal watch was being fixed. I borrowed it from a friend who spent 5 years in the sandbox as a contractor, and it shows that it spent that time there. Still works fine, keeps good time and has more features than I ever want from a watch.
My two complaints are that the rubber strap gets hot and sweaty, and the face is a bit too big when I'm trying to articulate my wrist up.
However, there is no doubt this is a tough watch and good value.

I don’t mean to completely hijack the thread, this is still about a watch, but has anyone had the tritium vials replaced in a tritium lit watch? My Luminox is starting to get pretty dim(14 years old)and I can’t get any help from Luminox. They have a warranty service center (3rd party), but they won’t do it. It’s a pretty expensive watch and I’d like to revitalize it if at all possible.

"Those buying automatic watches have in mind craftsmanship and overall beauty and prestige."
Back in the early 1970s I was working in Colombia. While there, I bought a Seiko 5 mechanical automatic watch at a ridiculously low price, even though it was not some Chinese knockoff. It gave good service until about 1989-90 when it began stopping at inopportune times. It was going to cost me over $50 to have it cleaned which was more than I had originally paid for it, so in the drawer it went, to be replaced by another Seiko (quartz) watch which looked like the Movado Museum watch. After about 6 years or so its case and crown had corroded so badly that I was ashamed to wear it, so I replaced it with the Victorinox SAW. Not too long ago I rediscovered the old Seiko 5 mechanical and sold it (non-running) on eBay for, I think, about $40.

I have had an atomic clock/solar recharge model G Shock for about 7 years now. No problems whatsoever. It resets itself for daylight savings time and recharges itself in sunlight or under a light bulb. It resets it's time with the atomic clock in Colorado. Rugged, durable, water proof and recoil proof from magnum rifles and pistols. What more could you ask for.

I recently heard that the atomic clock radio station in CO may be shut down. You may want to check that out before investing in a new watch or clock that uses the low frequency radio signal for time adjustment. GPS and telephone time must be the norm now.

I have had many over the course of a little over 20 years. Hard to kill. I wear this one every duty shift. If it could only talk....

Many younger folks no longer wear wristwatches. They use their smart phones or cell phones for telling time. I assume the time displayed on a cell phone comes from an atomic clock somewhere, maybe on a satellite. Same with cameras - picture quality and features of the digital cameras built into newer phones rivals or exceeds that of many free-standing digital cameras. I fully expect that sometime during the next 10-20 years, maybe sooner, both wristwatches and individual cameras will go the way of sundials and film cameras.

Older folks, too. I stopped wearing wristwatches when I got my first cell phone.

I have (had) one. It was a nice little watch. Good value for the money. The watch band broke, and I put it away, someplace. I have some other watches; two TAG Heuers, a Montblanc, and some others. I had planned to ride my motorcycle to work on the last day, and when I was leaving at the end of the day, I was going to take off my watch and throw it away. Not with a TAG Heuer or a Montblanc.

I have a solar/radio controlled Casio for work. Haven't had to do a thing to it for 6 years.

Saw my SIL last night and took this photo of his Casio. Said he's worn it daily for 15 years and paid $200 for it. Besides using it for his job as a scuba diver, he's one of those guys that can't sit still and always has a project going, so it takes a beating.

I have a similar model (3151) as the OP and it's been ok. But when I woke up this morning the display was blank. Took it to one of those kiosks at the mall and they put a new battery and reset everything for about $8.00. Resetting all those settings is a real pain and I was glad to have someone else do it for a change.

I really hope this does not happen, it is so much easier to take a quick peek at my watch rather than yank my cell out of my pocket.

Tom... I have the same exact watch. I bought mine from National Geographic who had them for sale a few years ago at half price. I was so impressed, that I bought two more for my sons. They are amazing. Don't have to replace the batteries, as they recharge from the light they are exposed to as you wear them. And they reset every night at midnight, and are never even a second off. And no worries about daylight savings, they change automatically. And they read any of the atomivpc clocks around the world.
This is my actual watch. When my boys and I get together, we always hold our wrists out, and the second hands on the watches are still in perfect sync, years after we started using the watches.
And we are watch geeks, who have display cases of high end mechanical and automatic watches.
Best Regards, Les

You must have not been around kids for awhile. My grandkids always have their cell phones in hand.

If the 2019 Federal budget passes as written, WWV, WWVH, and WWVB (the time stations) will all be closed.

On the contrary, my kid “lives” on her phone.
We live in a whole new world.

Personally, I like traditional mechanical watches so I don't own one.

After I was forced into early retirement, I decided that I didn't need a cheap watch anymore. After my Mom gave me an Amazon gift card for my birthday one year, I decided to get myself a Seiko automatic self winding mechanical watch. It's rugged enough to wear to the gym and looks good enough to wear when I'm gettin' dressed up.
It's my everday watch.
Also, I have a Garmin GPS watch that I wear when I'm wandering around on the local mountan trails.
