Default 2020 Bronco

So Ford is finally going to revive the Bronco. I'm curious as to what it'll end up being. From what I've been able to glean from various websites, not too much known at this time. However, there's some indication it will likely be between the old full-size and the Bronco II in size, possibly offered in both 2 and 4 door versions, and likely to have 4 cylinder and the Ecoboost 6 under the hood. Purists commenting on the websites are insisting that a 2-door version with a removable fiberglass roof is de rigueur, and many would like to see it with the 5.0 coyote and/or a stick. If they do offer the 5.0, I might be interested, as I'm really happy with the one in my F-150. (Still miss my '72 Blazer, though). Anybody else planning to take a look? And if it's a unibody, no dice.

"what it'll end up being"

It's gonna end up being north of $40k... and you can fuggetta-bout a stick option,or a ladder frame.

People don't want "three pedal" vehicles any more.

Well..most people...

You're probably right about the price. Ordinarily I'd agree with you 100% about the rest, but there is some indication Ford is trying to position it to compete with the Jeep Wrangler, which does still offer a stick. I'd likely opt for the auto myself.

I'm afraid the Bronco will be just another overpriced 4WD jellybean with too much electronics, not enough headroom, a too high bed, and too much interior clutter, all suited more for profiling at the white wine and cheese party rather than basic off road work like hauling gear for hunting, fishing and home repair stuff.

If Ford brought back the original body style, utilizing today's technologies for rust proofing, drive train and yes, creature comforts, I'd be interested. The part about the body style isn't going to happen though. For economy sake, I'm sure the body will be based on the new Ranger.

It's all part of Ford's plan to abandon cars for trucks. They make money on trucks and lose it on cars (or don't make very much). This strategy could end up biting them in the hind quarters. While GM didn't abandon cars, it heavily invested it's eggs in trucks and large SUVs, and when gas prices went north of $3 a gallon, the only foot traffic in their showrooms were the janitorial staff cleaning up the sales crew's tears and crying towels.

I heard there will be an Al Cowlings model; a one speed with hard-wired flashers.

Filling the shoes of the old Bronco is not going to be easy. I just sold an 81 with a 351W, and man I loved that beast. Love the old Broncos, but if I ever buy another I'd have to move to the desert because rust was always a battle with every one I've messed with. Before those, I messed with Jeeps, and now that I am long in the tooth, I'm driving a 4x4 Yukon, and although I do still get a little mud in the treads. Only tractor trails that would have put my 81 to sleep.

I think you may be right. While my 1990 Toyota 4Runner (bought new by me) was in the shop for some minor work at the dealer, I did what a lot of people do...I strolled the lot, looking at new trucks and stuff.

There is more plastic and composite material in the front end of a new 4Runner than there is in my entire truck. And their interiors are all shiny/glitzy plastic made to look like chrome. And you see fake carbon fiber in other vehicles.

Whatever the new Bronco will be, it won't be like the classic one, and it'll be priced out of the market for regular guys like me.

Bronco6G.com has some renderings that look quite nice. Of course, a Hennesey 2020 Bronco may be more to the power hungry folks with deep pockets.

Default New Bronco?

I believe if I wanted a "new" Bronco, and had the money, I'd go to Velocity Restorations.

These folks definitely got it goin' on.

I checked out the new Ranger. Guess I'll stay with my '07. 4.0 V-6 with a 5 speed 4x4. Only 87 grand now it will outlast me.

I've actually seen a new Ranger on the road. It had Mexican license plates. I'm guessing it's been for sale, in Mexico, for some time.

This was about a month ago.

The Ford Rangers have been out in Australia for a number of years. They have been one of the top selling pick up's (we call them Utes; utility) going neck and neck with Toyota Hilux (like a Tacoma).

thus raising the level of green among us who have seen what US domestic auto makers offer overseas.
It's a puzzlement.
I've seen a pic of the Pontiac G6 version of the El Camino offered down under. Very cool wheels.

Hope your managing with the lumbar area rebuild.

Meh.....if it is anything like the Toyota re-do of the FJ40, I ain't interested. Plus realistically speaking my FJ40, Bronco CJ5 days are over. Down here if you go offroad-you are pretty much in water anyway
Marketing is a powerful tool though and they will sell a bunch-mainly to cheese eating wine drinking suburbanites (which I do not disparage).
As an example, my boots which spriung a leak this past weekend led me on a search for a new pair. I was leaning heavily towards a 8" insulated pair of Bean boots. After reading how good they were in the Maine woods and realizing that I was not going to school at Dartmouth, was not spending the winter walking through sneaux, I realized that a good ol' pair of $25 black rubber Wal mart boots will do just fine.........Ditto on the Northface parka

Maybe its an Escape replacement and looks like the new Ranger in front.
If Ford is dropping sedans they need this to work.

It will probably be bigger than the Escape, built on the new Ranger platform.
So base Engine will probably be same as Ranger.

From what I've seen it's not an Escape replacement. There's supposed to be a new Escape coming, too.

The Bronco should have the same 2.3 turbo four as the Ranger. I think it's about 270HP. The rumors vary as to whether it will be 2 door, 4 door, or both. I suspect both. Ford would be badly ridiculed if they didn't produce a 2 door version since that's what a Bronco always was.

That said, the main target is said to be the Jeep Wrangler. I think about 70% of Wrangler sales are of the 4 door variant.

There's also supposed to be a smaller off road oriented SUV coming from Ford about the same time. No name has been announced yet, but Maverick is a possibility since Ford recently re trademarked that name. The name makes sense for a smaller version of the Bronco even though it was originally a car.

I'm kind of interested in a Bronco, but I want to see it and see the pricing before I can really say "I want one." So far all we've seen is a mockup covered by a sheet.

I don't think Ford will bring out a 2-door Bronco. Families and safety advocates hate them.

As for the baby Bronco, somebody let the cat out of that bag recently.

I just saw that this afternoon. The site that originally posted it claimed it was the Bronco, but you can clearly see the outline of the bigger Bronco projected on the wall behind it which matches the one they showed with the sheet over it awhile back.

I like the looks of the little one. I hope the larger one looks as good.

Since its to be built at the same plant the 2019 Ford Ranger is also slated to be built at the Michigan Assembly Plant you might be able to guess that the 150 platform will be used ..

Used them all the time in Boy Scouts on camping trips. In high school, I was offered one for $ 75.00 that ran and drove...how well, I'll never know.

If they brought it back same size as the original, two doors, with removable top........well I'd be awfully interested, friends.
