Watch lover's don't necessarily wear a watch just to tell time, it's all about wearing some marvelous mechanical contraption beautifully executed with precision and finesse. Like a fine firearm or automobile.
A couple of my favorites, Omega Speedmaster and a Seiko Sportura Retrograde.
A watch is the only jewelry I ever wear.

Well, they both have Griffon engines and are both clip winged.
So, probably.

This week’s Antiques Road Show had a segment on an Air Force vet who had bought a Rolex at the BX and decided it was too nice to wear at work. He bought it in 71 for around $365. It was a low production model. At the time of the show the host estimated at auction it would bring $700,000.00.

Yeah, I saw the Youtube of that - they actually said that it at auction it would bring $500k to as much as $700k.
Nevertheless, one hell of a ROI on that $365 investment!

I gotta quit reading these watch threads.
I haven’t worn a watch since I got my first cell phone, but now you’ve all got me checking out watches on Amazon.

Whatever you do, don't look at the Seiko Alpinist on Amazon!
Out of production in green (still available), but new versions are coming out now.
The cream dial is nice and the blue dial is a limited edition, but you might find one if you look hard enough.

Seiko Turtle Diver's Save the Ocean blue.
This is my third Seiko Diver's but my first of the Prospex line, the ones I previously had where the SKXs.
I like how the color matches the Blue Kentucky Wildcats.

Tag is not a watch maker. Heuer is.

Yes, I know, TAG is for Techniques d'Avant-Garde, as produced by the company founded by Edouard Heuer. But since most folks don't know that Heuer is actually pronounced "HOY-Yeah", it is easier to refer to it as a Tag.

I do know how to pronounce Heuer. both from before Tag was involved. The one from the right I bought new back in the day.

A bit off topic but learned a neat trick.
I've got a Seiko solar watch that after 6 years started to loose time badly......took it in to see if I could get a new battery...... no go ..... has to go back to Seiko. New they are $600 from Japan...trip to Seiko $116.
But first told to try this trick....... stop the watch and sit it on the windowsill for a couple of days....... I let it sit for a week, as my "Burb of the Burgh" isn't famous for it's winter sunshine.
Thinking back the watch was left in my "going to the lake" bag for a week....probably drained most of the charge and couldn't catch up while the watch was running....................
Started it back up last Saturday ....... doing fine...... when I'm not wearing it, it sits on the windowsill

My Timex Expedition I bought for work in the mid-90's, and my dad's Bulova wind up from the 1950's are more accurate than my Omega Seamaster??
I've lately come to the sad realization that mechanical Swiss watches are basically a piece of jewelry....not a timepiece.

I did the window sill trick with this one.
After I left it unatended in my bedroom for a long time(my everyday watch is the Omega Speedmaster) and it worked well.

How old is your Seamaster, and when was it last cleaned?
Just curious.

My everyday watch for the last 30 years has been a Seiko automatic dive watch..... I picked up the solar on a lark in 2014 off of Amazon for $250 or so. I like the automatics but they do lose or gain time.....mine loses about 2 minutes a week so twice a month I set it 2minutes ahead so I'm always + or - 2minutes or less.

The Speedmaster these days either looses 1 minute a week when it's cold or gains one minute when it's hot. I do keep it 1 minute ahead(hate to be late). But it's getting to be time I get it cleaned and lubbed.

Almost no "watchmakers" around and getting a Seiko serviced is close to the price of a new one..........................

Don't you have any "vintage" watch stores anymore? I mean "real stores" not "online vendors". Around here there are still few and they provide service for most vintage mechanical watches.

That's "The Brave New World" we live in now. It is creeping on us too, but at a slower pace me hopes.

TimeX weekender. Keeps good time and has survived everything I've knocked it on and submerged it in. Not bad for a 35 dollar watch.

Hey Jack.... That knife looks familiar. I got one for Christmas that looks just like it!! I was a little sceptical, because, although made by Buck, it was made in China. But I have been carrying it anyway, and it seems like a good knife.
If you still have your Terrain, that's two things we have in common!!
Sorry for the thread drift.
Best Regards, Les

I had an uncle who was a jeweler who gave me a skeletonized Bulova Accutron as a HS graduation gift back in 79. I still have it and it still works. The battery has been updated and will last 4 to 5 years. I will wear it to social functions as jewelry.
I picked up a Rolex Submariner in the late 80's. It is in the wife's jewelry box needing an expensive service to get it running again. It is a high maintenance watch that I paid way too much for. I understand it has appreciated in value - if it was working.
The last watch I bought is a Citizen Eco-drive back in 1994 (?). It is a solar powered chronograph and still works. I stopped wearing watches when cell phones got small enough to fit in my pocket.

I wear a watch on my left wrist, a Fitbit Versa 2 "Smart Watch" fitness tracker on my right wrist, and always have my smart phone with me. When I want to know the time, I look at my left wrist. Old habits die hard.

I have worn my Submariner most every day for over 30 years. Why? Because one of the guys that shot with us years ago wore one. I admired his, so when I could, I bought one and have enjoyed it since.

My everyday watch is a Timex Indiglo with leather band. I have an Elgin Sportsman 17 Jewel 14kt gold filled wristwatch with twist o flex band that I wear at Scottish Rite Reunions, plus I just inherited a 1928 Elgin 478 lever set pocket watch. It is away getting refurbished at this time. I am retiring tomorrow (again). It will make a nice retirement gift to myself.

If you still have your Terrain, that's two things we have in common!!
Sorry for the thread drift.

Oh yeah Les. I know that Buck knives are not like the fancy "assault" knives everyone is carrying now but I've always loved 'em. For years I carried the 110 and/or the 112. At a boat show one time this guy had a knife sharpening booth going and he charged me extra to sharpen my Bucks because of the hardness of the steel in the blades.
Now a days I usually just carry that little folder in our pics. It is not any kind of a weapon. The blades don't lock back and there is no button or other quick opening device.
Still have the Terrain Denali too. Best motor vehicle I've ever had. Pro'lly be my last car. I have had it for 2 1/2 years and I just turned over 11K on the odometer. It is going to last a lot longer that I am.

I cannot take my first "one hand opening" knife anywhere anymore. Switchblade stilettos are very much frowned upon by the "law" these days.

Yeah, I reckon. Got a new model Swiss Army knife. But I was talking of my first, bought in 1972.
