Default Nikon scopes

I don't post here much anymore but thought this might interest some folks.

On another forum (won't mention the name) there is some discussion about Nikon leaving the scope market.

If you happen to be in the market for a decent scope you may want to start watching the sales at places like Optics Planet and Sportsman Outdoors. May be an opportunity to pick up a good scope for cheap.

Wonder why? Their scopes rule. I have a P308 and a Prostaff 5. Love them.

Even if they don’t leave the market, they already cheapened up their lifetime warranty.

Any company doesn’t do themselves any favors by POing their customers.

Politics and liability probably have something to do with it.

I think the camera market has put them in the red. Everyone using their phone these days and abandoned the camera market. Me, I like a camera. But then I'm a Boomer with a flip phone so what do I know?

Can somebody show me an actual link from Nikon saying that they are leaving the scope market. I searched and found nothing.

Hard to believe that Nikon would actually completely leave the scope
market. Many of the scope "deals" are for refurbished scopes if you
read the fine print.

I sure hope nikon doesn't leave the scope market. I was hoping to buy one for my ar-15 and eventually a few other scopes. I really like the two Nikon Red dot optics i have.

There are still some pro- and semi-pro/advanced amateur level DSLR cameras being made, mainly by Canon and Nikon. The majority of free-standing digital cameras sold are of the small compact variety. But today most everyone uses those built into cel phones and iPads. There are still a few new film cameras being made, but they are more in the luxury/pro class, like Leicas. I believe Nikon also still makes one. I wonder why, as there are millions of used formerly high-end film cameras floating around (along with lenses for them), and they sell for next to nothing. Same is true for some excellent earlier DSLRs having tons of features, but of somewhat lower sensor resolution than those now being made. So no one wants them, despite the fact that most amateurs have no need whatsoever for the newer high-resolution sensors. Any resolution higher than around 7-8 Megapixels is largely wasted on them. Case in point. I recently came into (by inheritance) an older Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 digital superzoom. It is truly a wonderful feature-loaded camera with a Leica 12X zoom lens and will do just about anything that 99% of users would ever need a camera to do. Except it has only an 8GB sensor. So they sell today for around $50 on eBay.

I prefer the actual camera than using a telephone for pictures. I find taking pictures with my phone is rather difficult because it hangs on the kitchen wall and has a long curly cord!

I have a Nikon F2 camera that hasn't left the shelf for 10 years, but my Nikon Monarch 6.5-20 has been used a lot.

Yes, we get it, you don't have a cell phone. No need to say this everytime cell phones are mentioned.

Nikon went big and hit a home run with its cheap SLR camera. Costco ran one this year with 2 lenses for $399. Awesome entry level SLR. The difference between phone pics and a good jpeg are huge.
