reminds me of when my #4 son broke his left femur falling off a skate board ramp. He was in a full body cast from his chest down. He really wanted to deer hunting with His cousin's hunt club. So real early in the morning wife would pack a lunch and I would drive Him 30 miles to the hunt area. Carry Him from the truck and prop Him upright against a tree, give Him His weapon, and wait until the morning was gone. Then carry Him back to the truck and we would eat lunch and then return home.
(p.s. I am not a hunter)

In Montana if you have severe mobility problems you can get a permit to shoot from a vehicle. A blind guy could get a free permit to hunt. We are trying to figure out how that worked very well.

My blind friend took an antelope with a bow. He rigs his cellphone up looking through the sights. His guide will tell him how to align and when to take the shot. He also harvested several deer with his rifle last year.

He’s the one sponsoring the handicapped hunt. I feel sorry for whoever draws him as their guide

Today was event set-up, safety orientation and range day. My hunting buddy is 10 year old Kaden. I was anxious whether to use buckshot or a rifle for the hunt. Being a small child I convinced the other guides we need a shotgun for any chance of success even though it’s rifle only after January 1st. My new little hunting buddy friend shows up late for range practice at 3:30 ( after school). I set him up with the scoped Henry 22lr to see what he can do. WOW...... he can outshoot me. After some practice his neighbor breaks out a .243 to see if he can handle a big rifle. Kaden fires two shots with the deer rifle at the fifty yard target and he is a proven marksman. He doesn’t know it yet but that .243 is now his rifle.......What an outstanding group of people, looks like we’ll have nine out of fifteen handicapped hunters participating. Thirteen property owners have volunteered their property and best stands for this event. I’m honored to be in this company of good down home people.

Here’s some pics of my 10 year old buddy shooting and proving his marksmanship.

This was a great event for hunters, guides and sponsors. Outstanding hunting conditions with a full blown rut in progress, one buck was harvested immediately after the deed was done. The shooter stated: “ The least I could do was let him finish!” A total of nine deer were harvested with top honors going to a shooter with two bucks and a doe for the weekend.

My little ten year old beginner missed a doe while blowing a gaping hole through the blind. We were both laughing uncontrollably when a second doe walks out. He refused to shoot at the second deer as our ears were still ringing in the smoke filled blind. You haven’t experienced handicapped hunting until you’ve pushed a wheelchair up and down a quarter mile trail in the dark!

My new friend and I have vowed to be hunting partners at the handicapped hunt next year......told the host to save that hunting blind for us.....it already has a shooting hole at the perfect height . I didn’t touch his gun during his shot.... he released the safety, took aim and pulled the trigger all by himself.

I’ll be sending you some registration information when I get home. You can get your name in the pot for next year early. Fifteen hunters were registered this year with six last minute cancellations, a couple were sick an others had various reasons they couldn’t attend. No one can predict the future.

Lodging, meals, guides and licenses were furnished. Rifles were loaned as needed with a free range afternoon for practice.
An appreciation and sponsor, guide and hunter recognition wild game dinner was held Saturday night. All hunters and guides received gifts and swag from sponsors including Monster Energy drinks.

I know your invitation was short notice this year.... maybe we can meet and hunt next time. General rule of thumb is the MLK holiday weekend which is perfect timing for the rut.

Sponsor gifts and donations are appreciated with all prize/raffle and monetary donation used solely for this event. Anyone wishing to donate can contact the Andalusia Alabama Lions Club.

It’s a crying shame I couldn't remember the last time I recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Got it done twice with approximately 100 other friends and neighbors this weekend, it was humbling and very touching to be a part of this great event.

I'll share two of our funniest moments; I pulled the normal falling asleep in the blind routine when I'm suddenly poked in the ribs. Snapping too I immediately scan the food plot for deer. With a dead serious look he whispers; " You are falling asleep on the job!"

After him blowing hole in the blind we were both out of control laughing without trying to make noise. After a full minute, I removed and stuffed my mask over his mouth saying he had to quit laughing so I could. Shucked a fresh round into his rifle with a shh.... be quiet. Within minutes another doe steps out.....I'm SCREAMING at a whisper Shoot' it, ShOOOOT .....he says no....I say you missed the other, shoot this one! He says nope I'm not shooting......Why not? This ten year old says because my ears are still ringing and besides it will have a chance to grow another year.....

Only two of the hunters were Miracle Club Children, the rest were adults.....Here is an Email I just received from a Navy Seal Instructor.

Hey guys,

I just got a text from Hector. It said:

“thank you again for this weekend. You may not know, but this is exactly what my head needed. i had no night terrors, no migraines, no stress. Thank you so much. And on top of that, I killed my best deer ever and got to make some new friends. Again, thank you. “

Hector

I never realized that this hunt could help someone with PTSD this way. I think you will all agree that this is why we do it. Thank you all for your great help.

This Hunt is pure magic; it's impossible to decide who is the toughest?? The Seal or the 10 year veteran of Spina Bifida?
