They have fences up for the protesters, you have to go into a "pen" to participate in the rally.

Not to sound conspiratorial, but I would not be surprised if there are those who actually WANT violence at the 2nd Amendment Rally in Richmond. Violence on the statehouse steps would certainly justify to many the governor's ongoing attempt at a gun grab in Virginia. I hope the patriots attending are not being set up.

I've been getting e-mails from GOA about this. Seems the Governor has already overstepped his bounds by putting unconstitutional restrictions on this rally. GOA filed in court against this, but the judge shot 'em down.
Antis, being as crazy as they are, just might try to start a confrontation. I sincerely hope the protesters can keep their cool and not fall into a trap. If there's any trouble at all, we know who the MSM will blame.

I’ve noticed the talks my heads on tv are already labeling folks taking part in this as white supremicists and ANTIFA members.

Let em’ talk. All they ever do is talk, talk, talk.
Forget the fences also. Either they’re actually afraid or it’s all part of the show they’re putting on. I think it’s the latter.
But whichever, don’t let it deter you. Talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words. I mean action as in showing up and voicing your opposition.
They’re betting on the fact that we won’t and we’ll look impotent or show up and be prodded into doing something stupid.
I think the people organizing this and the vast majority attending are smarter than that.

When I saw photos of the cage-like chain link fences my first thought was that all media coverage of this event will show the protestors through chain link, kind of a psychological link to compare them with dangerous animals, inmates, etc. I doubt that most talking heads will comment on the fact that this was mandated by the governor.

We'll see.

I thought about posting this in the 2A forum, but it isn't so much about pending legislation as it is about the tactics and portrayal modes. Media circus, brought to you by your kind, caring, and benevolent government.

Political situation created and orchestrated by the politicians that are doing everything they can to strip citizens of their second amendment rights. If the succeed they will expand their plan to the rest of the country. Once the second is gone the rest will be easier to take away.

Checked in this morning and every news story says, "White supremacists" or "alt -right wing"(?) or "neo nazi's" in the description of who's protesting today.
And what they are protesting is "new gun safety measures ".

Silly me, I thought the problem was fed up citizens exercising their right of assembly to voice displeasure of new laws that would make them criminals without committing a crime.

Now approaching 10:00AM Eastern Time. Multiple reports in various media on the Richmond situation, all using derogatory terms (radical, paranoid, white supremacist, neo-Nazi, etc) to describe protestors and groups, many comparing this event to Charlottesville last year, all describing legislative proposals as "common sense" regulation. Photos clearly feature the chain link enclosures that the governor was "forced to" order because of "credible intelligence" that violence was planned.

Outside the capitol square reporting includes commentary and photos of huge crowds, many armed with "military style" weapons.

It would not be difficult to conclude that the media coverage was fully coordinated in advance, now working on a script with talking points provided.

From what I have read , and viewed on the news , the following terms and adjectives are being used:

* "heavily armed , predominately white males"

I saw not one instance of violence or even rudeness displayed.
Total respect both ways with LEOs too.

I agree but wish to say that there were people here from around the nation. Spoke with some from California, Washington,Ohio, Georgia and North and South Carolina.
That was just the ones I spoke with. I’m sure that many more states were well represented.

It's all over the radio here on the West Coast. Rush, Gorka, Etc. All calm & quiet. Makes me proud. The anti,s have egg on their faces.

I suspect the honest coverage of this (online, not on TV) will reach far more people than any stupid fake news broadcast ever would. So if the fake news doesn't mention today's rally, it's really not a big deal.

If we can keep the MSM from portraying the protesters as red-neck, knuckle-dragging, uneducated southerners that need to made fun of it should be a win for us Virginians and the rest of the protesters from other states. Let's see just how they do cover this event. It should be very interesting.

Ended well. Only one arrest (I'm sure we'll hear about that on the news). Most participants picked up theirs and others garbage before they left. 22,000 peaceful folks.
1-21 update. The young lady that got arrested refused to take off her mask. VA has a law saying you can't wear a mask if you are over 12 years old. It was a Klan thing.

From a selfish point of view, I am glad that I lived when I did. Again, my true sentiments would get me a long vacation from this forum, but I hope that the felons of Virginia appreciate all the work that the Virginia government has done on their behalf.

A smaller version of the protest also happened at Washington's capitol, Olympia. Slanted coverage can be viewed at www.theolympian.com. It is the city's biggest newspaper. The legacy media was drooling over the chance to report some kind of violence but there was none. They had to settle for trying to make protesters look like potentially dangerous ignorant hicks.

Most of the laws proposed in Virginia already were enacted here by 3 initiatives that passed 1 each in the last 3 elections. The initiatives were funded by local technology billionaires and money from east coast anti-gun groups. Radio reports are that Democrats want to add a one gun a month buying limit, prohibition of firearms ownership after a 2nd DWI conviction, a 10 round magazine limit and banning "assault guns." It's similar to Virginia in that after the last election the Democrats control both the state house and senate and the governorship.

My hat's off to the protestors in both states but unfortunately it will be up to the courts to strike down some of the new laws. I hope I will not be dinged for writing that I am not wildly enthusiastic about a few Democrats.

VCDL is to be commended, as are all the participants.

I truly believe that the main reason why there wasn't violence, or the interjection of outside agitators, was due to the fact that lots of us were praying for our brothers and sisters in the fight for freedom. This truly is a cosmic battle between good and evil.

Yes, one arrest according to reports from the scene. A young African-American woman was wearing a kerchief over her face and refused to remove it when ordered by police, so she was arrested for wearing a mask in public (apparently a felony in Virginia!). This occurred outside the Capitol Square area and it remains unclear whether the woman was part of the protest or simply a local resident going about her business on a chilly morning. Others present noted that many of the police officers on duty were wearing tactical baclavas concealing their faces.

Should make for an interesting court case.

The news said, "A person was arrested for wearing a mask." They didn't say it was a woman who may have had nothing to do with the rally.

Earlier they interviewed one person who said they wanted to be able overthrow government tyranny, no one else, and the newscaster solemnly stated that the protesters were talking about overthrowing the government. Typical news horse ****.

Like I said before, put up a candidate instead of allowing these antis to run unopposed and I’ll be there for them. I think people would be surprised at the support they receive

Now I'm interested to see if the Virginia lawmakers will take the hint and vote against the travesty of the proposed laws. ...but never underestimate the power of fanatical and wild-eyed politicians who feed on "feelings" instead of FACTS.
