Fun fact: The Corrs got their start when they auditioned for the movie, The Commitments. They didn't get hired as a band, but each member got a part in the movie.

No list of female musicians would be definitive without The Runaways:

I prefer the later version from The Blackhearts:

The Backyard Sessions by Miley showcase what a great voice she does have. If she'd behave and apply her talent she could have a great career as a country/crossover artist.

Don't recall Emmylou Harris being mentioned Great duet with Alison Krauss.

As to Emmylou. In the mid 70's I witnessed a heartbreaking scene with her. I had gone to a concert in Columbia, SC where Emmylou was opening for the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

The packed house was there to see OMD and had no interest in anybody not called OMD. She was, in my opinion, doing well with folky country and ballads but the audience was having none of it. The booed so hard that she left the stage before her fourth song had ended. To make it worse they cheered as she left.

I felt horrible for her. Looking to the present I am sure she had the last laugh as (even though I am a fan of OMD) look where they are versus where Emmylou is.

People can be so cruel at times.

I have been a yuge fan of hers ever since.

That opening acts are there so that the audience can 'warm up' to the main event. That's completely childish.

I've seen opening acts much better than the main even. Commander Cody was warming up for the New Riders of the Purple Sage. When they came out they were so messed up they couldn't even figure out what to play. Commander Cody came back out and led them in a GREAT set and saved the show.

Alison Krauss does some of the greatest duets. This one with Jamey Johnson is another of my favorites,

Wow, I haven't heard about "The Commitments" in years. My one cousin married a guy from Ireland and most of his siblings came over for the wedding. We were all singing in the hotel bar when one of his sisters said, "Let's sing something from The Commitments." His family was amazed that I knew what they were talking about. My now ex-cousin in law said that his family remembered me for a long time after the wedding because I sang with them in the hotel bar. That was a fun wedding.
