My bank recently got a machine that spits out your cash based on what the Teller punches into the computer. The last two times I was there I was told the machine was jammed.

I asked if I could still cash a check and they said it was okay. Once a month I take out 1k for my needs. The Teller proceeds to count out 10x$100 bills. I said "That's not what I want... I want $200 in 50's and the rest in 20's." He says he doesn't have any 50's so I agree to take it all in 20's.

He starts to count 20,40,60,80,100...When he gets to four hundred he counts correctly but only puts down 4x20's. I slap the counter and say "Try again, young man." He makes it to $500 and starts a new pile. Again he makes the same mistake. He knows I'm now insulting him,his dog and his ancestry under my breath as I pick up my 1k and walk out the door.

Today I walk in the bank for my monthly cash and again the money machine was jammed. This time I get a young lady but when I give her my check and I.D. she gives it to the teller I had last time. I tell him I want $200 in 50's and the rest in 20's to which he says that they don't have any 50's.

This is when I lose my composure. "This is a Bank, isn't it? Don't you have a vault with some 50's back there? I want $200 in $50 dollar bills and the rest in 20's." That's when the lady in front of me says that she has 50's in her drawer. Why she didn't just wait on me in the first place is beyond me as well as why it took them 5min to exchange money with each other balancing their drawers.

What really cracks me up is that while I'm being waited on there is a petite lady under the counter and another lady who was possibly the head Teller is handing her huge stacks of money that was taken out of the broken machine. God only knows what they were doing but it sure wasn't very secretive.

Can't wait until next month to see what happens. I've already decided that I will ask for $100 in 50's, $200 in 20's, $200 in 10's...$300 in 5's and the rest in 1's. Now count it in front of me...I've got all day.

And, another Curmudgeon surfaces. Good on you.

No, but my ATM will. It gives a choice of denominations.

It must surely be worrisome to some of you to have to leave your lawns unpatrolled while you're at the bank.

I cash a couple checks every month at the drive up window. I usually make a deposit, get $300.00 in 50s and the rest in 20s. I still pay by cash when we go out to eat and other small purchases. When I tell the wait staff "no change" it seems to make them happy.

I don't seem to have any trouble getting rid of the $50.00 dollar bills at Tulsa or the Denver gun shows. Cash seems to work well for toy money.

I guess I'm an anachronism, but I feel a little unsettled if I get down to less than a couple hundred dollars on me.

ATM, check, debit card, bank transfer. None require going into a bank.

a lot of people when they buy things in the store use their debit card and request cash back from the store if they need it. I think most stores will give up to 100 bucks or so.

Both branches of my Bank have these new fangeled machines. The teller punches in the currency amounts to his computer and the machine spits out the cash in the proper denominations.

Of course, that's when the machine doesn't have a jam and decides to take a break. Never stood around to see how long it takes to clear the jam but I know it's a lengthy process. Apparently, for security reasons, certain steps have to be followed. You certainly wouldn't want a criminal to just pop the lid like a copy machine and empty the contents.

BTW...Both branches of my Bank have experienced machine jams a little more than they would like. Wonder where they're made.

I feel the same way. I reward good service with repeat business no matter what it is. I have Banks and supermarkets within a mile of me but travel 15-20 miles to shop where I'm wanted.

Years ago I had a modest savings account at a local bank. My local bank was acquired by a big national bank. All of a sudden my savings account was being tapped for 5 years worth of interest each month. I went into a branch of the big bank and took out every dime I had, and I told them I was displeased with their fees on my account, which were never mentioned in the merger announcement. My impression was that they didn't give a darn. I will never deal with that mega-bank again. Apparently they believed my account wasn't worth their trouble to maintain.

Since I deal in an unusual type of money, I have to go into a bank to acquire my Golden Dollars. It turns out the tellers are happy to see me because they are glad to get rid of the Golden Dollars and Eisenhower dollars.

Unfortunately, you wouldn't be working in a bank these days if you were smart enough to work in a bank.

I’ve never seen a ATM which allows a choice of denominations.
I don’t know if my Credit Union ATMs which is CU Anytime has any.

My bank is smallish, and it is the only locally owned bank that hasn't been taken over by one of the big boys. Service is great. I rarely go inside, but a couple times a year I empty my 3 gallon coin jar. They are happy to run my coins through their counting machine and deposit the funds to my account.

I pay my bills through electronic banking. If I'm issued a check I take pictures of it with my phone to deposit it. I write maybe two or three actual checks a year. I rent a safe deposit box from them where I keep a few gold coins. That costs me a whole $30/year. Other than that there are no service fees for anything.

There is an ATM machine outside, but the tellers inside are actual human beings, and they are good (and quick) at counting cash. In all the years of doing business there I can only remember one error. I cashed a check at the drive through years ago, and just as I drove away I realized the teller had given me an extra $300. Had to pull back around and return it to her.

The Wells Fargo ATM in my town does. When I get $400 I have the choice of 50s or 20s.

I almost never go into my Credit Union because I get money at ATMs and direct deposit most of my inbound money. When I get an actual check I deposit it online using my iPad.
I actually did go there just the other day, probably the only time this year.

My principal banking is done through a bank account at my broker (E-Trade). Everything incoming goes to it. I maintain a relatively small balance account through a nearby Wells Fargo branch just for convenience, mainly so I will have someplace to cash an occasional check, and can write an occasional check. Any time I need to add money to the account in the local WF branch, I do it electronically from E-Trade, takes about 30 seconds. I write very few checks these days. Virtually all recurring expenses (utilities, credit cards, etc) are drafted directly from the bank account. Likewise, I seldom pay for anything with cash, almost everything I buy goes on a credit card. I have pretty much entered the cashless society.

In another life I guess I could live with that...

I prefer that my bills are sent to me before being paid. I only use my credit card for items $100 or more and pay off the bill in full when I get it. The $1000 I take out each month is more than enough to satisfy my needs and then some. I'm more dormant in the Winter so there's even more left over.

Like most of us I'm a creature of habit. YMMV.

About the only time I get fresh air is going to the supermarket, liquor store, gas station or Bank.

Going to the Bank also provides me with a new pen each month to pay my bills.

A smile and "Thank you for stopping in." from a human being can outweigh any other provided services/amenities.

I actually went in the Tampa BoA to get cash for a private gun purchase the other day. They had 2 armed guards standing out front. One of them cracked on me cause one of my pants pockets was turned out, "We know you don't have a gun!"

Funny thing, they were armed with Smith 6 shooters.

While out walking this morning I withdrew $200 at an ATM.
It was of course 10 - $20s.
So I guess I’ll just limp along with my backward Credit Union $20s.
