For those who liked my Kawasaki z900rs
The 2020 special edition colour scheme. Is also very beautiful.
It's funny Kawasaki seems to be following the same order of the original colour schemes.
2019(like mine)
It's 1973 counterpart(and like my 1973 Z1 originally was).

In 1976 I was 18 years old and had been working since I was 14 years old and considered fairly responsible for my age. I had bought a Honda CB100 from my brother in law about a year earlier and wanted to get something bigger. At that time the Honda Gold Wing had only been out a couple years and Honda's CB 750 was considered the standard for big rice burners. Looked at a 900cc Kawasaki Z1 and the dealer let me take it out for a test drive, (that would never happen today). Upon getting out of the lot onto the busy State Route, I cracked the throttle and had to hold on for dear life, the acceleration was startling and unlike anything I had ever experienced, especially compared to my piddly little 100cc Honda. I made it back to the dealership in one piece and my brother in law said when I took off my helmet I was grinning from ear to ear. Unfortunately my pragmatic sense of self preservation told me my life span on that "road rocket" was going to be measured in days not years. Still wish I had given it a go though.

At 16, I bought a new 1969 Honda CL90 with money that I had earned myself. In that same era, I had a chance to ride a Triumph 650, an older BMW, and a Ducati Desmo 250. That last one, I took to speed. It was also the day that I T-boned a nasty dog with it, while just cruising through the neighborhood.. That ended my interest in riding motorcycles.Thank God that I was wearing my friend's full helmet with bubble. I guess the Desmo was cursed.The friend who owned it, later used it to commit suicide.

The '74 was the first bike that I did a "Unintentional Wheelie" on, when the bike went into "Wild Mode" at 7k, the first time I ever rode one at night time.
Nice view of the Stars........
but I was very glad to see the road again!!

I took a little test ride on a Z900rs. Stellar motor, much fun and the retro cool factor is high!

In 1976 I was 19. Early that year, when I was still 18, I changed to night school and started working. I had a 5 speed 50cc since I was 16 and I saw my first Z1 then. I had to get me one of those someday were my only thoughts. The best I could manage to buy was a second hand Yamaha 200, 2 stroke 2 cylinders, it was fun but not the Z1. The next year I managed to upgrade to a second hand Suzuki GT 380, still 2 stroke but 3 cylinders. And finally, by the end of 79, I was able to get me a 1973 Z1. kept it until 1989 when I bought my first "new" motorcycle, a Suzuki GSXR 1100.

For those who liked my Kawasaki z900rs
Both beautiful bikes, really like the new 2020 colour scheme. Kawasaki knows how to hit the nostalgia nerve. They have for a long time.
Here’s is my 1983 Z 1000 R (Eddie Lawson Replica).
Also saw this magnificent unrestored blue Z 900 in a shop, the owner had just bought it. Sadly he went on a long tour in India with a Honda and had a fatal accident.
There’s a green Z 900 RS cafe racer, new with a good discount in a shop five minutes from my home, been resisting so far.

To this day I regret selling my ‘78 CB750F. Last of the iconic 750cc SOHC
Never had a Z900, but I did have an 85 ZL900 Eliminator. Definitely was fast in its day.

Steady Eddie is of one of my favorite GP racers. Of course there is also Valentino Rossi.

Maybe the discount is because of the 2020 version. I find the colour scheme more appealing.

Yep, my first big bike was a 1989 ZL 1000 Eliminator, the fastest drag racer in the streets of Athens, Greece. Even cops had fun racing against me at traffic lights, 1/4 and 1/2 miles. Their Hondas 800 had no chance.
Nowadays I also have a home made customised ZRX 1200 R. Faster, better brakes and road holding

Ouch, you sold a ‘73 Z1 in 1989 ? No regrets ? Obviously the GSXR 1100 was a top bike then, but it didn’t age as well.
Got pictures of the Z1 ?

I had to sell it. Or I would end up breaking my neck. I had some good years with it(10), but you have to understand it had been an everyday bike and not a collector piece. In 1985 I crashed at 185km/h(115miles), the original paint had to go and so did the original exhaust pipes. I Managed to get a 4 in one from a Z1R to replace them. I know a perfect Z1 would sell for a little more than the GSXR cost me in 1989. But mine was far from perfect (I found after I sold it that the frame was cracked when the fellow who bought it from me started his restoration project). From 1976 to 1985 "big" bikes were overtaxed in Portugal. After that the "new" crotch rockets started to appear and some of my friends got them. Either I changed friends, changed bike or end up dead. I chose the easiest way out.
I have photos of my Z1 from 1988 or 1989. They have been posted on this forum somewhere. I don't have them in here right now. But I have them at work. I'm on holydays at the moment, will be back on the 4th of March.
Edit. Found the Z1 photo. The Summer of 1989 me is on the far left.

I felt like an SR 71 pilot with this at the time. No one touched me.
And it was a very safe ride at almost 186 mph , compared to about 130 mph on the z1.

My little blue 500cc was an amazing bike it had some good features and some not so good.
GOOD- It was very light weight with a perfect center of gravity. Not top heavy like some bikes. Easy to maneuver in urban situations. Very strong and lots of torque up through the gears. That 3 cylinder engine was awesome, performance wise. My best friend had a Honda 750 and off the line and going through the gears he was eating my dust and getting farther and farther behind me. But I run out of engine eventually and he had some left so he could beat me for a long distance run.
Bad-It was 2 stroker. between 50mph and 85 mph the vibration was awful. On day rides I'd be numb from the waste down every time I stopped for gas. And I could never get used to the sound. It sounded like a cat passing gas in a soup can. started not to buy it. Over all it was a good bike and fun to ride with power to spare but My last 2-cycle engine for a street bike. Motocross bikes...now that's a different deal.
