Default Tomorrow February 29

Tomorrow is Sadie Hawkins Day! If you don't know what the significance is, where have you been? Ask an old timer and they will/might know. If you remember Lil Abner, you probably already know. :-)

Have a blessed day,

Leon

My daughter has been married 12 years tomorrow, but it will be her 3rd anniversary!

Somebody at the church office said there is a two day event on February 29th & 30th. That should be very interesting!

Originally February had 30 days, with the 30th as leap day. But Julius Ceaser wanted his month to have the "Important Month" designation of 31 days, so that is where Feb 30 went to! (Julius and Augustus are the reason September, October, November, & December are two months late compared to their names!)

And let’s not forget poor Frederick from Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance”:

“The story concerns Frederic, who, having completed his 21st year, is released from his apprenticeship to a band of tender-hearted pirates. He meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, and the two young people fall instantly in love. Frederic soon learns, however, that he was born on the 29th of February, and so, technically, he has a birthday only once each leap year. His indenture specifies that he remain apprenticed to the pirates until his "twenty-first birthday", meaning that he must serve for another 63 years.”

Wow!! I loved Lil' Abner...especially that poor, hard-lucked little guy, Joe Btfsplk, who walked around with a black cloud hanging over his head. Someone once asked Al Capp, the creator of Lil' Abner, how to pronounce Joe Btfsplk's last name. Capp replied, "Place tongue loosely between lips and blow!"

I also got a kick out of Marryin' Sam, the traveling (by mule) preacher who specialized in $2 weddings. He also offered the $8 "ultra-deluxe speshul," a spectacular ceremony in which Sam officiates while being drawn and quartered by four rampaging jackasses. And if I remember correctly, for an extra buck, he'd get down and wrestle a pig. Pretty tough nowadays to find a preacher who'll do all that for just a few dollars. Gotta love it!

Remember Li'l Abner? I was in it back in 2016. It was a stage play in Hanover, PA and I played the villian, General Bullmoose. It was my first time on stage to sing a solo.

We had a Sadie Hawkins day at my high school in 1965. But no girls chased me. Traditionally, Sadie Hawkins day is November 13.

If'n I get to running my wife will say: "When you get tired, stop at the store for lettuce and bananas, I'll be here when you get back." Joe

At my age I'm not going to enter that foot race.
However, on second thought, at my age that may be my only hope.
