After days of reading about COVID-19 on news site comment sections, blogs and forums, I think I need to get busy and submit the copyright paperwork for the word "sheeple" before another billion people use it.

Well I'm not about too sacrifice my new bottle of Crown Royal reserve as a hand sanitizer. Got some old bottles of Canadian Club that I would gladly let go for the cause.
Was in Walmart friday afternoon getting some extra supplies and you took your life in your hands just walking around. Mostly women shoppers and kids. Many were not even looking where they were going. My youngest daughter manages a target store. They have been literally going nuts tryng to keep the store reasonably well stocked but the suppliers are having trouble getting the needed supples to where they have to be. Why, cause their suppliers are overwhelmed trying to get the stuff for the distributors. I watched a young man restocking a section of the meat department. Stuff was going off the shelves as fast as he could restock. Now if that isn't panic buying I don't know what is. I was in Lowes today and absolutely no home cleaning supplies. Bleach, chlorox wipes, lysol any of the name brand products. And if they needed nitrile gloves walk a few aisles and found about twenty packages. These are industrial nitrile gloves, thicker than what hospitals use.Only took one box of 50 pair. Ever since those idiots took the ammonia out of the glass cleaner cannot get my glasses clean. So got a gallon jug of industrial glass cleaner. And this is only one lowe's store. I got my N95 masks at Harbor Freight. same for the gloves. Costco isn't bringing in any ships to off load their made in China junk. They laid off hundreds of workers. We don't need trade tarrifs with china. Just stop buying their stuff and see what happens. It's more like when you eat just about anything and have live animals from all over the world in a place where they are butchered, where sanitation is non-existent, well viruses can and have jumped species to us like SARS and the WuFlu/Covid19.

I have to admit while not a fearful person this has me a little spooked. I was a full time paramedic for 33 years and went through the AIDS, SARS, H1N1, Anthrax and other scares and survived. But the infection and spread rate of this virus is very alarming to me.
I was in New Zealand for a couple of weeks and flew up to Australia and spent the night in Sydney to get home as the Auckland flights got very full. While in NZ I didn't watch the news until my last couple of days, too busy fly fishing. When I left on the trip the virus story was not huge but when I watched the news the last day it was very alarming! I flew to Sydney then on to San Francisco and finally home to Chicago last weekend being very careful the whole way.
Since arriving home I have been monitoring my health carefully. Being over 70 and having gone through chemotherapy I need to be cautious, so far so good.
I would not fly today until things settle down a bit. With more testing coming this week I suspect there will be at least a 10 fold increase in cases identified in this country. Please be careful and don't dismiss the danger but take any and all reasonable precautions without panicking.

You got that right! It is not "just" a flu it is a very contagious virus. My Wife works for a major medical firm/Hospital. It is the contagious nature that has the Doctors concerned.
Especially here in Florida and other States with large populations of elderly and may travel airports and cruise ports, and retirement/nursing homes.
A recent poll here on the forum show a lot of "seniors" which have a greater chance of contracting any virus.
So as the TV show use to say:
"Lets Be Careful Out There"

It gets worse.
New CDC Guidance
“Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.”

I survived cancer, lost a lung because of it. I’m not sweating this but I am taking the common sense precautions.
This is getting out of hand especially when you can’t go and buy a simple roll of toilet paper or a dozen eggs!!!
Can you say Baaaa...

My work space is a state museum, several art galleries, and two libraries. We're shut down, but the building is open. Reminds me of Eric Cartman saying "Move along now, nothing to see here." It's nuts out here now. Maybe we need to go to our Netflix and Amazon subscriptions and watch The Walking Dead.

No, Mitt Romney did not say he will give every American $1000. He suggested the government give every American $1000. Big difference there, you know?
He suggested this and other sensible (my opinion) measures the government should consider taking in response to the coronavirus. This is in addition to other measures the government has already taken.
It's no different fiscally than the government's response to storms, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. The president has already directed FEMA support and has directed certain national guard units to assist in emergency management.
Romney's a senator from Utah. You think any of his constituents would turn down a grand? I'd take it in a heartbeat, no questions asked.

I talked to my employer about my concerns and my being a high risk person for this virus. I was given a 30 day leave of absence. I thought that was very decent of them.

i wouldn't mind this thing killing me nearly as much if i thot it would fix the planet, but it won't.
to do that we'd need at least a 50% fatality rate, more in china n india.

i've found a bunch of studies that say vitamin d
reduced acute resperatory infection,
both bacterial n viral.
i got this from dr john campbell, who i follow.
i looked into a bunch of studies n they said big monthly doses don't work but daily doses do.
there is enow evidence now that i just ordered some d3.
i'm not selling this stuff but you can find campbell n others talking
about this on you tube.
rusty, i'd like you to take this.

Wouldn’t surprise me if in the next couple of weeks if this virus does not slow down we see movement towards martial law....we saw it after huge hurricanes.....curfews first. No signs of this going away soon.

I don't want anyone to have it but don't give a rodents rump if some non important star contracts it.?????????

The virus won't move some areas towards martial law, the actions of the panic stricken government dependent sheeple will, especially the urbanites.

Fascinating to watch this unfold. Governors and various politicians are using copies of the US Constitution to alleviate the toilet paper shortage, fully supported by a panic struck and paralyzed public eager to surrender their civil liberties. Don't be surprised when the words Corona Virus are replaced with the words Gun Violence, and these same politicians exercise their newly discovered and authorized power to solve that problem to.

HIPAA rules restrict the authorities from releasing names. However, celebrities, and anyone else for that matter, can contact the press and tell them that they have any and all diseases.

While I see your point - it's already to the point people are calling 911 to report people coughing - in some countries it's come to violence. Physical attacks etc. are not out of the question as it gets worse.
My question is about testing -last week the 67 staff members of the assisted living facility in WA. were still pleading to be tested but the JAZZ NBA team and there entire group (77 people) got immediately tested upon request.

As always, it's who you are and whom you know ....
But as for testing, all the folks desperate to be tested need to remember:
It will help them not one bit. There is no cure, medication, or special treatment if you are positive. And you can catch it five minutes after testing negative.
At this point, the advice for all, tested and untested, positive and negative, is pretty much the same: distancing and sanitizing.

But if you know your positive you could STOP being around pts. medical workers(police, fire and numerous others) can not self isolate or work from home

Kansas governor just shut down all K-12 schools through the rest of the school year. That really sucks for my 16 year old son. Hope they get some type of online classes up. He's way smarter than I am and can go far given the opportunity.

One would indeed wish that we’d have competent leadership who could prioritize, organize, and make sure that, as more become available, the tests are delivered and administered where they are needed most for folks such as you mention. My hopes in that respect are not great.
For very good reasons we mistrust a strong central government and have a decentralized system with spread-out functions and jurisdictions. But there are times when this can come back to bite us, and this will likely turn out to be one of those times.

No. "Silly" got left in the dust over the weekend. "Ridiculous" and "Outlandish" are running neck and neck in first place now, with "Totally Inane" closing fast.

Hope this helps.
Fine musicians and educators.

Dear Flutists,
I just posted my email to you on FB. When I did, I tweaked it to make it more clear. Here it is for anyone to copy and send to anyone and everyone.
SURVIVAL STORY of COVID 19
My husband Mark Vinci and I have COVID-19.
I was lucky in that the only symptom I have is loss of taste and smell.
Mark, unfortunately, had severe coughing and respiratory restriction, and a 16 day "101" fever. He was hospitalized in NYC a total of 4 days.
The doctors stabilized him and released him with an 80% chance to live. One of the reasons they released him was because he was able to get himself out of the scary cough/restricted-breathing episodes that can occur in some more severe cases.
At home Mark slept 24/7 for about 14 days. A number of times we didn't know if he was going to make it. What helped save him was when he had the restricted-breathing episodes, he would curl up in a fetal position and breathe as low as a mushroom (his description), which was minimal air intake with faster than normal breaths. After about 10 minutes of this, he would fall asleep again for another 5 hours or more, only to get up for a few minutes and have it happen again. He is healing slowly. Eventually, he was able to stay up for 15 minutes, then then 45 minutes, then over an hour, etc.. Now, he can stay up most of the day. But even now, when he has difficulty breathing, he lays down and uses minimal breathing again.
Most people, including myself, in a restricted-breathing situation would tend to gasp for more air. Unfortunately, with this virus, forcing air into the lungs causes the alveoli sacs to collapse and the patient can die. Doctors have figured out that if the patient cannot psychologically handle the necessary low-oxygen intake administered on a ventilator, they tend to take breaths around their the ventilator tube, and then they could die. So, then the doctors figured out they had to sedate those patients, which can work, but could have harmful consequences.
Please take the time to view the attached video that explains how this virus affects the lungs, and what doctors have learned about how to treat those symptoms. The video is narrated and produced by Dr. Roger Seheult, Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, and founder of MedCam.com
THIS INFORMATION MAY HELP SAVE LIVES.
Please heed all warnings, take all precautions, stay safe and healthy.

...I think my wife and I may have had it at Christmas...
...I wouldn't want to be tested though and risk a mob with pitchforks and torches in my driveway...
...wife thinks she got it at jury duty...

Ah, no big deal then. 8500 now. For perspective, that's 3 months' worth of traffic fatalities nationally. In 46 days. And rising at 1,000+ daily.
I think I'll get drunk and drive around.
