Default COVID-19 Hit's Home!

My daughter just called and said her daughters mother in law went to the hospital this morning with symptoms. They tested her and told her to go home. They called around 3 hours later and told her she tested positive and to say at home for 2 weeks.

Bad thing is, she was hanging out with my grand daughter, and her 2 year old daughter all day yesterday.

Then my grand daughter went to my daughters house and hung out with them a few hours last night.

If it spreads easy, My grand daughter, her husband, her daughter, my daughter, her husband, my son, and his wife will all have it.

My son works for my son in law.

Grand daughter lives in Covington KY. My daughter lives in Fairfield Ohio.

Kevin, I am sorry to hear this and pray for their well being.

I am hunkered down with the already cabin feverish grandkids. Thank goodness for smart tv's, Wi-Fi and the pony keg drive-thru.

That is how easy it spreads and multiplies, that's why the Gov't is trying to keep everyone at home.

My wife in in the second day of a two week quarantine.
The nurse told us to stay in different rooms. Right, in a 2000 sq. ft. house,
one kitchen, same 3 ton central AC/Heat pump so we just breath each others air as it gets recirculated.

They told her she would get the results of her test in two weeks.

Just like a cold:
Treat it and it will go away in 14 days, don't treat it and it will go away in two weeks.

Best wishes for everyone affected by this. Truly scary stuff, but all anyone can do is take the best possible precautions and follow medical advice.

Let me paraphrase something our governor said yesterday during his shut down Nevada speech.

"This 30 day period is not a vacation. It is not an excuse to go visit family and have sleep overs with friends. The aim is to reduce the amount of interaction and thus slow the transmission of COVID-19 as much as possible."

I respectively suggest that even if your state has not taken the extreme measures seen here, that you impress upon your family members that this advice is the way to go. wood714 has provided the perfect example why we should do it.

I await the inevitable push-back from the more family orientated than I and expect it to be fierce, but why else did they invent Nomex.

@wood714, I sincerely wish all the affected family a speedy recovery or a lucky escape from infection as applies.

No idea, just repeating what my daughter said the hospital told the MIL.

Seems kinda odd to me too.

I think my daughters test came back in 5 days (with good news). Meantime a sister of mine intended to make a road trip with one daughter and three grandkids to spend this coming weekend with our 88 yr old mother. I asked her to rethink that. She doesn’t get it yet,but she isn’t coming down either.
I’m just a mean old brother lol

I'm still trying to figure out the family tree. Too early in the morning for me.

Regardless, I hope all get through this craziness with minimal discomfort.

They just had the CEO of our health system on TV to answer questions. She said currently "if" they do the COVID19 test they are getting results in 6-7 days. Unless certain criteria are met, the state and federal gov't forbids them to do a test. She didn't elaborate on what the criteria is, but I understand in is mostly the normal Flu symptoms. They have locally done over 550 tests and none are positive here yet.

All those who were in contact should be tested ASAP.

Hang in there.

Apparently they don't.

She got a call from the hospital today saying her results were negative.

Only reason I can think why they told her it was positive 3 hours after taking it, was to get her to stay home.

Kinda makes me wonder if half the cases they claim are positive are just to get people to stay in.

Got a visit from a friend who works at the local hospital. (On my back porch, six feet apart at all times ).

They are only testing people who are bad enough to be admitted to the hospital, so they know whether they need to be isolated or not.

Nobody else gets a test, since every test wastes single-use masks and protective equipment, of which there is a critical shortage, and since everybody is under instructions to stay home and social-distance anyway, what difference does it make?

Basically, stupidity and lack of compliance on the part of too many people has helped the virus win the first round. They are now preparing for the next round, the potential onslaught of critical cases. Testing no longer serves any meaningful function in slowing the spread; too many are infected.

My Wife works at a rehab facility and they are testing and limiting people who they will take.
The employees have to have their temperature taken before coming into work, and anyone with a cough or fever is not allowed to work and has to go home.
Wife comes home and goes downstairs and takes a shower, puts her clothes in the laundry before coming upstairs to be with me.

My imbecile son had to go out for a pizza tonight. I think my son is doing this deliberately. With my health problems, if I get the virus, I expect that it will be the end. My son knows that if I do the final check out, he will get almost everything. Am I being paranoid, or is my son waiting to see me dead?

Ruthie said that the nursing home is well stocked on everything but masks. They are running low and are having trouble resupplying them.

They are now following the CDC's guideline on reusing them. Place your used mask in a paper bag, write your name on it, put it in your locker at the end of shift and you can use it for two more shifts.

She was also told to keep extra scrubs/undies at work in case of quarantine

She has a black belt in hand washing.

You know the answer. No one knows your son like you do.

But, if it were me, and have suspicions, I'd be making changes to my will, PDQ/ASAP. Just saying...

But of course, given the current rapidity of the spread, you can catch it five minutes after you were tested.

So testing negative gives you no reassurance but the fleeting consolation that you weren’t infected yet at time point X ....

Our governor is spouting doom & gloom, millions gonna get it, etc...

Without testing on a large scale any numbers are a guess. But he stands to gain from large scale panic.

If you want to know *** is going on, then watch the task force news conference every day and get your information first hand.
Not the regurgitated version from the media or the even less reliable social media.
I needed a few things from the market on Friday. While I'm getting some things from the dairy case, a young mother with her 4 year old was standing in front of the dairy case. The little munchkin had his hands all over everything in the case, and mom was oblivious. Come on people, wake up.

Maybe longer than the duration. He's irresponsible and needs taught a lesson. He's aware of your health condition, no doubt, but likely he just thinks he knows better than the people that really do. I'm sorry you have this problem.

FYI they just approved test kits that give results in 45 minutes. Gota love science!

Yep. There's a "game changer" right there if they can get enough of these test kits out there fast.

Example: My situation is bad. My wife is an RN literally on the front lines of this insanity while I am susceptible due to age and multiple pre-existing conditions. But even worse, I care for my very elderly mother & MIL every week. Availability of a 45 minute test result would be a Godsend given the incubation period of 5 days.

OK, so I guess I'm not as up on this as I should be, but regarding the testing, is the treatment any different if the result is positive versus showing symptoms and not testing positive?

And unless I'm missing something being exposed doesn't necessarily mean that you will be infected, right? I have to think before this is all over most people will be exposed with some getting sick and some not, and some of those that become ill will be in danger and some won't. Am I off-base?

EDIT: Want to add that I hope the best for wood714's family and anyone else that is suffering any effects of this virus. So far those close to me have been fortunate.

For those with little or no symptoms and no pre-existing conditions or age concerns to worry about... probably not. Most of them are being told to go home and self-quarantine. For those with symptoms and age or pre-existing condition concerns... and a positive test result... they are being admitted. The good news is that most tests are still coming back negative, even for folks exhibiting conditions that could have been the coronavirus.

But this is where the speed of the test result is crucial for obvious reasons.

Change your will.

State that if you die from the Corona all your assets will go to a children's charity. Make sure to give him a copy of the will.

I'm in dire need of some take out fast food. I did get some carry out from Wendy's a week or so ago. I may risk it again today.

If that is his behavior I'd kick him the hell out and change my will toot sweet. I have zero patience for self absorbed youth who have no regard or respect for their parents.

My daughter called this morning and told us that her father-in-law's brother passed away last night in Manhattan from the virus. He was in his 70's and in poor health and it's touch and go with his wife who also has it. He's the first person who I knew personally that has passed from it. He was a good guy and family man. RIP Mike!
