Coronavirus Treatment
Here's an interesting thing about treating the Coronavirus.
BREAKING: FDA approves chloroquine for coronavirus treatment, will be available '''almost immediately''' | The Post Millennial - News, Politics, Culture, and Lifestyle
I usta drink quinine water, also a malaria treatment, for the severe cramping caused by my MMN. I wonder if it'll do the same thing? Since I've lost lotsa weight and got myself fit and healthy, the cramping's not as severe. We still have a coupla bottles.

Potentially good news, but so far I have only seen it on Fox, so I call BS until corroborated.

Save your money. With tonic, Gordon’s or Fleischmann’s will do. But add a dash of bitters either way.

They think it may be helpful in treatment. But, until controlled study id done its not sure. So, at this point it is just a may help and not a know cure or remedy. It does look hopeful though. Great thing is it is a pretty safe drug to take so it shouldn't do any harm. Low risk treatments are good.

The FDA still needs to look at it, as to how affective it can be and what a standard dose would be. It will be several months of test before it will hit the public for use

Was also on a news conference held this morning. Side effects will probably be fever, cramps and diarrhea.
Sometimes the cure will be worse than the illness.

This drug has been around since 1934. Unless it has some kind of known potentially serious negative health effects - which nobody has claimed it does that I've seen, it has been described as "relatively harmless" - I say start using it NOW. Especially on the most seriously ill.
Delaying using it will cost lives and if it is pretty much harmless, the worst thing that happens is it doesn't help. For the critically ill, what is there to lose?

If they get lucky, they can short-circuit a lot of the research process and cut a lot of time off of getting a treatment out to the public. Unfortunately it doesn't often work - the test with the two most efficacious anti-viral meds used for HIV was a failure.

OK, so given the choice between getting a fever (which they are saying seems to help the body fight this virus), cramps, and a case of diarrhea (both symptoms easily dealt with), or a high probability of dying of pneumonia, which would you choose?
I know what my answer would be. In a hearbeat.

We are thousands, ne, billions of years into this planet, there is not "cure" for a virus. Long after we are dust, the planet will be populated by nothing but viruses and roaches...….all laughing at us saying, "Really....?"

Maybe not a "cure" but we have come up with some pretty effective treatments for some.
HIV is one of the worst and they have treatment regimens that lower the viral count in the body so low as to be undetectable.
Compared to an HIV diagnosis being a death sentence just 10 or 15 years ago, that comes pretty darned close to a "cure".
Of course the drug regimen is very expensive. But in our horrible big pharma dominated health system people are still getting it.

I've taken Plaquenil (hydroxy chloroquine) in the past for Rheumatoid Arthritis. After a couple of years it wasn't doing much so I moved on. While it is an old and comparatively safe drug, it is not without side effects. It should not be taken indiscriminately and requires regular liver, kidney and eye tests. One of its worst possible side effects is blindness. Just because some politicians think it is a good idea doesn't mean it is a great idea. Besides, it requires a doctor's prescription. They will probably wait for a little more information before handing it out like aspirin.

Gotta use them smileys when being sarcastic and such.
We can't hear the "tone" in your voice when you're online - you're the only one who can hear what's only in your head.

As I understand it HYDROXY chloroquine and chloroquine PHOSPHATE are two different, though related drugs.
The former seems to have much more potential side effects than the latter. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that one. I'm not a pharmacist, though I did take a full year of chem in college.

And that is relevant, how? Bleach won't kill the HIV virus so therefore nothing is going to kill COVID-19?
FWIW "they" also said that there would be tens of MILLIONS of Americans dying of HIV/AIDS every year too.
Failed predictions are a sword that cuts both ways.

Yes bleach and many other things will kill HIV, what does that have to do with anything?
Transmission of HIV is totally different than the COVID virus. Only person to person and body fluids so cleaning doorknobs or countertops will do nothing to prevent it from spreading
HIV spread and developed into AIDS, as at that time it was taboo to even talk about let alone disclose peoples identities, it was all hush hush so the virus spread exponentially before anyone knew it was around,

That is my only mixed drink. Gin and Tonic. And I haven't had one in years.

Now I hear that temperatures over 135 degrees kills the coronavirus but it takes around 15 minutes.
So does that mean that 15 minutes in a sauna's a possible cure?

No, because your internal body temperature won't get that high. If it did, you'd die.

Reminds me of dropping a Dorito on the sand at the beach and watching seagulls from 2 miles away come flying in.
