Anyone heading for the woods?
I'll be leaving soon for an extended camping trip with my coonhound. I'm a little older and don't handle even the normal flu well (it always ends up going to my chest) and I live with someone who is going back to work, so I need to leave for a while.
I'm not one of those Idaho bunker guys, but my Airbnb is empty for the next two months, so I have no income and no job. The other choice I have is to move into my downtown Seattle condo. I'm thinking that might not be a great idea, even though I've got enough food to stay put for a long time. The problem would be teaching a coonhound how to use the toilet.

If you live in circumstances where you are unavoidably surrounded by people, and are in a high risk group for the infection, then taking a sabbatical for a couple weeks or so might be prudent if you have somewhere isolated to lay low. Couldn't hurt while you watch how things play out.

Don't need to do so. My nearest neighbor is about 1.5 miles away. Besides that, I'm City Attorney for a number of small rural towns so if things get worse and Homeland Security gets involved, I have to work.

Hopefully, the woods will be peaceful and calm, and a welcome respite from city and government madness.
Enjoy your time with your dog. Post some photos for us.

This would be my dream of isolation.
A 58 foot Kadey-Krogen. Only holds 400 gallons of fresh water, but that would last a while. This is a live aboard boat with more storage space than you could fill.

It was on the news this morning that all the camp grounds in Oregon, both federal and state, are closed until further notice. I guess one doesn't need a formal camp ground to camp out in the woods.

That is absurd. All Washington State camping is still open, as are all National Parks. Here is the National Parks March 20 message: "Most national parks are open as a refuge for Americans tired of being stuck at home during a pandemic, but despite now being free to visit, people may find it more difficult to enjoy them as parks close visitor centers, shuttles, lodges and restaurants to fight the spread of the coronavirus."
Yet another area where Oregon needs to get its **** together.

Did the same thing in Florida. What better way to enjoy some “social distancing” is there than camping? It’s as baffling as why is TP disappearing. And makes as much sense

Your post makes me wish I had practiced better retirement planning. I might go down to BassPro and buy a row boat. I have some wine bottle corks, cane in the back yard and plenty of worms in my garden. I guess I'm ready.

It's crossed my mind to spend a few weeks at camp, but I am a bit nervous its not the best time for my house to be empty.
Hoping things do not degrade in society the next month or so but being in the burbs I am a bit more cautious lately and watching my surroundings more.

Not for an extended time, but the wife and i headed to the ranch for the weekend.
Quiet, closest neighbor is about 1/2 mile away. Plenty of work to stave off boredom and a built in gun range right out the black door.
60-10, 63 no dash, 17 HMR and 20 gauge Superposed just on case the ECD’s (Eurasian Collared Doves) are back.

To me, the concepts of "camping out" and "campground" are contradictory.
When I go out into the woods for a day or two, with definite plans to sleep outside, I don't want to be surrounded by other people doing the same thing. Structured campgrounds with picnic tables, built in grills, overflowing trash cans, and even cabins are not my idea of "camping out".
Government agencies can close all the campgrounds they want. They can't close national forests, wilderness areas, or millions of acres of federal or state land.

I was in the woods last week, but had to come back to civilization, due to family commitments. No campground for me, just a dry spot to park the Gheenoe.

Well I live in the woods and am glad of it!!!!!!! I live in a county that is 65 times the size of Manhattan and has 15,000 total population. That is an average of 10 people per square mile, compared to 350,000 per square mile in Manhattan.
There has always been something in the back of my mind that has always bothered me about millions of people living in urban areas of the country and now I know what it is! Human beings are not meant to live like that.
