Default Army lookin for medical personal

We got Email traffic about the militany looking for medical personal to come back on Achive duty to help in our nations crisis. My young bride of 62 did not hesitate to call the recruiting command to volunteer. She was medic for her entire career.
Damn, I am so proud of her!!

Well, it turns out the militany is not interested in soldiers with 35 years of medical experience. My wife spoke long and hard to the recruiter extolling her experiences, but no no avail. .
Still I am very proud that she stepped up to answer the call.

That’s odd. I guess they’re wanting a little more than just the medical background.
Like maybe more time in service afterwards?

My guess is they're looking for specific skill sets and younger people. I was an Army Medic until I graduated from Nursing school. I spent about 16 yrs. in the profession. I'll be 64 yrs. old in a few days and I've been out of the medical field for many years due to an on-the-job injury. I told my wife the other day (she's a dialysis nurse) that at my age I figured that I'd have no problems with the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of returning to the job, but the physical aspects would kick my butt. For instance, I used to be very good at starting IVs. Now with the arthritis in my hands, I doubt I could start an IV on anyone. I earned 2 college degrees using the GI Bill and tried to return to the service after 9/11, and they told me (politely) that I was too old and too disabled.

OP - like your wife, I'd love to saddle up and go, but I don't think it's in our destiny.

Regards,

Dave
