Default We caved.

We are bound and determined to absolutely minimize our going out. Haven't been to a store in over 2 weeks. Starting to run low on some things and just this morning we saw where Walmart is now delivering groceries.

We checked it out and they will sell anything you can get in the store and deliver it to your door. We filled out our order but we have to wait until in the morning to get a delivery time.

I not 100% sure about this but I am pretty sure it's safer than going to the store. When our order gets delivered I'll follow up this post with a review. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Wish me luck

Not caving in as much as being prudent. Why gamble when the stakes are really high? Thats the way I am looking at this.

WJ...
We have been doing the Walmart pick-up routine.
Works pretty good.
Pop the hatch on the suburban kid loads it.
Hit 'em with a good tip and out.

We are still going to stores where necessary, groceries, prescriptions, liquor, the necessities. But we practice safe handling, using vinyl gloves, wiping everything (including all packages) down with alcohol wipes. And I have gone out to my outdoor range and shot foe a couple hours, (remote and seldom used by others).

One thing we have done is started a 1 PM daily get together (keeping 6 ft distance) of all the neighbors. Keeping up to date on everybody with 10-20 on our block.

I have been using Instacart with great results! Delivery in a couple of hours, left on the doorstep. Plenty of time to don my hazmat suit to bring them inside. They also you contact me in real time while shopping to approve any substitutes for out of stock items. Highly recommended.

Forced to do so by my good wife in order to avoid going to the store, I put an order into Walmart this morning for certain items needed by my elderly mother. Nothing in short supply... just common stuff available today if I went to the store.

It all went very smoothly until I got the delivery date: April 15th. Ouch.

Guess where I am going tomorrow morning during Old Fart hours.

Every time I go to Walmart, I see more employees pushing larger and larger carts through the store grabbing stuff for home delivery.
Maybe I should be scared, but I’m not.
A little bored and frustrated.
Over the years, it’s been noted that I only get scared when it appears that I’m down to under a minute to live.
But I get pissed off and frustrated pretty easy!

I agree with the others, not caving. Just common sense. What is the upside compared to the downside.

Be safe.

Caved? Nah.

We've been having our groceries delivered for years.

In the best of times, why would I want to go to the store when they'll just bring it here?

Not caving, but glad you guys are. Means more room for me in the stores and I don't have to worry about getting run over by those annoying electric wheelchair carts in Walmart.

55 cases in our whole county of S Indiana, 2 deaths. I'm not licking any toilet seats or tempting viral fate with reckless behavior but I sure as hell will go to the grocery. I was at Meijer and Aldi today both stores well stocked and moderately busy. About a third wore masks and people were keeping their distance. I'm on the lookout for coughers or sneezers and I've yet to run into any. Purely anecdotal but my experience says sick people are staying home.

Well, the results are in. We got our first delivery from Walmart today and I was well pleased with the experience. Had about 25 items ordered and all but 2 were delivered. In 2 cases substitutions were made. You have the option to allow that or not. I chose to allow it. In both cases the substituted item was better than what I ordered.
think I'll stay with it for the time being at least.

My goods were delivered by a very old couple. The lady told me she was a stage 4 cancer patient and by the looks of her I believe her. They are doing this to make money to pay medical expenses.
Please, If you have your groceries delivered remember to tip them generously. For them to be doing this seems to indicate that they are desperate.

Y'all stay safe.

On "food" items Walmart is not much cheaper than Publix. For the non food we get stuff at Costco. We have been shopping at Publix more years than I care to say. Not much at Walmart is worth going there, even in the best of times. The Walmart's in Florida are a different store than up North. Down here they are horrible. Target is a way better store. When old Sam was alive Walmart was a different environment

For the OP, there is no other stores than Walmart,?

I just received my first order via Instacart. Placed the order on Wednesday, got it on time today. Pretty well pleased with the process, though there are some rather significant fees involved, including a special "alcohol service fee" if you order wine! So I ordered a lot of wine, hey, already paying the fee make it worthwhile! I got real-time msgs from the shopper as they substituted or had to refund an item.

Been reading some good things about HEB delivery system. Gonna see how that goes. Submitted an order this morning and it's due to arrive between 4 and 5 PM today. I will post a review.

Just came back from Publix, and wanted to mention something I saw pertinent to these deliveries in this thread.
Not a single employee was wearing gloves or a mask.
The order pullers brought their carts to four employees who consolidated the contents to packages, which were picked up by delivery staff.
These unprotected staff handled the items to be delivered, and then another maskless and barehanded person took it to be delivered.
So be aware that although you've avoided the store, a potentially unwanted bit from the may have arrived with your order, so some additional care in your handling of the delivery may be in order.

Last time it was Walmart. Today we ordered from HEB and it came this afternoon. Very similar service. HEB deliveries require no signature. HEB substituted the kind of cookies I ordered but no problem. No such thing as bad cookies, right?

Just read an article where people's instacart orders were being marked as "delivered", but nothing left at the front door.

Being charged for food, but not getting it.

You might be lucky you got your order!

Way back, when the grocer was on the corner, he hired boys with bicycles to deliver. So did the druggist. But they are long gone...

I have seen predictions that after this crisis is all over The popularity of all this home delivery will continue to grow and we will see a gradual but on-going decline in actually going to the store.

I believe that this is going to happen. I think better and more efficient systems will be developed and it will become the new way of shopping.

I would never have thought I'd like it so much but I really do like it a LOT. I hope it works out like this. I'm tired of having to worry about whether or not I'll be able to find and open check stand and waiting in long lines while I gaze in frustration at all the empty check stands and then fight my way through all the beggars in the parking lot on my way to my car.

How to y'all feel about it?

Our retirement place (currently under construction, albeit stopped for now by the virus thang) is kind of a long way away, relatively speaking, from the big name supermarkets. Right now, we have several choices as close as 2 minutes away. After we move, not so much.

I noticed one of our future neighbors getting their groceries delivered about 6 weeks ago... quite a large load too. I looked up where they came from and it was pretty far away. I can't remember the exact delivery charge, but it wasn't cheap.

I'm guessing that yes, we will give it a try at some point after we move. There will be a much smaller market near enough to us for things we'll need ASAP. For big bulk loads, delivery could end up making sense.

Well there is that. I guess we will not be able to have it both ways. I suppose its a win/loose situation either way.
I'm the same way when shopping for meat.

Years ago when we lived in Ca. and Ralph's was still in business. Dixie used to have groceries delivered and she was very pleased with the service and said she thought she got better produce. I told her I figured they filled the order in the warehouse and it was actually fresher.

Default My wife asked a store about delivery......

She called them on Wednesday and they said they could deliver this weekend, maybe.

She has been shopping for an indigent, disabled couple and has had to curtail 'special requests' because she was having to go to too many stores to find what they needed.

Our local grocer, and sounds like many others, were slammed with pickup and delivery orders. Not enough staff and dates that were many days out.
For items we cant order online from say Amazon, Target etc we just hit a store maybe once every 7-10 days, use masks and gloves and wipe down everything when we get home.

We make it work, hoping this is a short term need. But understanding it may be longer term....

I haven't been out in over a month. Home delivery is now a week delay IF you can get a time scheduled. I decided to mask and glove up and make a run.

Surprising how many folks are running around with out gloves or masks. Heb had toilet paper; 4-roll packs, limit one. Plenty of distilled water. Finally got some sugar free ice cream. (a big fist pump) Miss Pam is in making sugar free brownies as we type. :^)

Walmart is a mixed bag. the entire paper aisle is now stocked with Easter items. Guess they don't expect any paper any time soon. Good stock on most canned goods and frozen veggies. Also cookies! I am the original cookie monster don'tcha know.

Made it back home unscathed and well stocked. We are good for 2 to 3 weeks. I hope by then they will have shorter wait times for delivery. If not I have plenty of gloves and masks.
