How long until it's illegal?
Not to be too paranoid but I have been wondering when it will be illegal to leave your home without your phone. At some point some governments will assume anyone out and about without their phone is trying to hide their activity. I read about our government wanting to use cell phone data to verify we are all socially distancing correctly.
How many years before you must carry your phone or be presumed guilty of nefarious intent?

What if you don’t have a phone? Will they give you one?

Saw a story on my local news tonight about that. The government is using cell phones to track people. Too many phones in one area and the cops will be sent to break up the crowd. Social distancing, ya know.
Honestly, I have mixed feelings about it. I don't want Big Brother keeping tabs on me or any citizen. But OTOH, there are way too many covidiots out there carrying on like there's nothing wrong and gathering up in groups. Local news has shown videos of local Memphis parks with young people playing basketball and sitting around in large groups. Ya can't fix stupid, but they are trying.

Sure did, here in Tennessee the Governor said today that he is requiring people to stay at home and the reason for it was they have been monitoring traffic through TDOT (Department of Transportation) and monitoring movement through cell phones and too much movement has increased. It definitely was a wake up call but he sure didn't hide the fact.
It made it for an eventful day with calls of confusion on his requirements. We in Law Enforcement were asked to help monitor and enforce his recommendations.
What a crazy time.
GrayFox stay safe as we(local leos)have been banned from travelingout of state and to Memphis, several departments have been warned that MEMPHIS is bad (like we didn't already know for many various reasons).

You got that right.
I've been staying home. However, yesterday I had something unexpected come up and had to drive through much of north Memphis. From the amount of traffic and the number of people out and about, you'd never think anything was wrong.
I fully understand why the government feels they need to keep up with people's movements. The covidiots aren't listening!

Still trying to figure out the difference between being in your house and being in your car?
You are allowed in Pa to go the gas station,
I'm just social distancing from my wife and two boys if I go to the lake for a few days ...................no need to stop on the entire round trip.
Been hearing rumors of increased domestic violence from folks cooped up together 24/7 and too much beer. Why Beer because the PA Beer Distributors are still open..... even though the State Stores are closed.

Who needs the government when the blue hair brigade is out in force? My daughter the State Trooper informed me that the phones are ringing off the hook with people tattling on stores and individuals that are not maintaining the 6' rule. So when their not parked at roads crossing the state line, following the governors order to monitor the color of license plates entering the state in preparation for what the governor calls "future actions", they have to visit stores to "Educate" staff...and again prepare for future action. And no, she doesn't like her job anymore now that she works for the Ministerium für Staatsicherheit (AKA Stasi)

Not a rumor, its true. Along with another "unintended consequence"...(I love that term, used by those responsible when the predictable happens)...and that is relapses by those in drug addiction treatment.

Did you see that they opened their online store for limited purchases? They’re taking orders up to 6 bottles per house and will have it delivered to your front door. The trick is they only have a limited number of sales they’ll do each day and it appears they allow customers on the website at random.

If the government could do this, there'd be no more drug dealers, thugs, gangs, etc. because they'd all be rounded up and jailed.
Right?

Just a FYI or PSA reminder.
Cell Phones actually have an ON/OFF button
Florida got put on lock down but it is no different than the last few weeks. Essential places are still open??

Not really lock-down at all. A LOT of businesses are "essential," and we're not being hunted down by the CoronaCops if we're out and about.

Phones will become our way of paying for everything soon. Home Depot has only two cash checkouts in our store. Credit card or phone at all the others. It is not too hard to see phones becoming mandatory.

There are private schools that require all students to have cell phones for security alerts.

More people are also getting away from using cash - that too adds to the monitorability of people. ("monitorability" - probably not a valid word, at least for today )

In my life, I have had to call 911 three separate times for myself.
I'm never without a cellphone.

With the urgency surrounding trying to contain the Coronavirus, my guess is that the constitution be damned. Constitutional issues will resolve themselves in the future if big government actually tries to prosecute people for stay-at-home violations.

I don't care who knows where I am. Accost me for no reason and be ready for what's next. I am a peaceful man. I went out to the lake in my development, no fish but lost one of my 59 cent WalMart "Crapala" plugs on a snag. Beautiful evening. Joe

The President needs to issue a national stay at home, all non essential business must close order. Its not fair that the scofflaw states continue to operate while some states destroy their economies and citizens economic futures for a generation...or longer. People are scared, so everyone must suffer together, no state should be allowed to come out of this with their economy intact.

I wasn't sure so I did a google search. The Constitution addresses crisis situations.
Martial law in the United States. ... Article 1, Section 9 of the US Constitution states, "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."

China instituted a phone App requirement for access to pretty much everything. It cross references your phones location with the the phones of people who test positive for the virus, making for automated contact tracing of potentially infected persons. If you don't have a phone with the App on it, you can't pass the myriad checkpoints they've established.

How do you run an "essential business" if you're ordered to stay at home? Who will your customers be?
It's not fair that sparsely populated rural states be treated the same as New York City.

Some sources predict the virus will reach it's peak soon in most of the country. Of course, this varies depending on where you live. No need for the tin foil hats just yet.

Did y'all know that your cellphone's microphone is being used by the government to not only listen to your phone conversations, but they can hear you talking in your living room even if the phone is off? There's a rumor going around to that effect.
Of course, I heard the story from someone that is Bipolar, off his meds and now does illicit drugs.
But yes there is a conspiracy out there.

OMG! That reminded me. I had all the alerts tirned off other than the emergency. I was getting AMBER alerts for kids on the other end of the State.
Anyway last Friday I was reading and dosing off when BLAST BLAST BLAST! The warning (like on TV) scared the heck out of me.
"It was a warning about covid 19 and do not go out this weekend! HUH?
Then on Saturday another alert! In the middle of something and ALERT Be sure to practice safe distancing! DUH!
I now have them ALL turned off.

It's more like trout fishing...catch and release. Cops, prosecutors, prison unions, all need the job security. ACLU won't let us just shoot thieves, thugs. Except for voting, the dead people are rarely repeat offenders.

LE should thank people for their concern and leave it at that. No reason for SS tactics using snitches. If LE sees something, then say something. No need to act on snitch information.

The whole surveillance-through-your-communications topic has been an increasing concern for many, not just the tinfoil brigade. Cell phones, social media, Google search patterns, whatever.
But at this point nothing is required of you, nothing is mandatory, and in contrast to China, creating a legal basis for such mandates seems farfetched at this point.
So people who complain about this are like people who stand in front of a buffet and complain that they can’t stop eating.
You control what goes out there to be seen.

Sadly, if you are CCW you must have a phone with you. You must be the first to call the PD after any type of incident.

Not mandated by law, though. Doesn't have to be a smartphone, and can be a phone with no service plan, as every phone can call 911 even without a "plan."
