Storing of Stocks (or grips, if you prefer)
Is there a proper way to store stocks when they are not mounted on a revolver? I have seen stocks where either a piece of wood or other material is used to fill the gap where the frame would be and then run the screw in. Others I just see them place a runner band around the stocks to keep them together. Mainly worried about having the stocks warp if the are not mounted. I guess the best solution would be to purchase a revolver without stocks on them for storage.

I have yet to see any of my unmounted stocks warp, but I guess they could. I keep those that I have unmounted wrapped in tissue paper to not attract moisture. I wrap one totally and than the other one over the wrapped on. Label them and put them in a set of medium side part drawers. They are in a part of the house that is both heated and airconditioned and I have yet to have an issue.

No scientifically special method that I know of. I just place them in a thicker plastic zip lock with a couple of air holes punched in them for air circulation. The bag just keeps them from rubbing against each other and getting scratched when I search through them. I keep them in a heated and air conditioned room so the humidity and temperature is relatively stable and they have done quite well over the years. Some of the Grips I have are over 100 years old! None have cracked, warped or changed that I can tell.

I'm probably not the best example. If I have it available, I use a spacer and screw the grips together for revolver grips. If not, I just keep them screwed together loosely. I also keep the original packaging and keep the grips in them if I'm not using them. For my 1911 grips, I just keep the flats together and keep them in a ziplock bag (After seeing chief38's post, I may go and punch some holes in them). The grips are then kept in an ammo can with my other accessories.

I like to keep them a sandwich bag half-closed (so moisture isn't trapped), and roll the stocks in a paper towel.

I have a set of the original plastic off of my commercial 1911 stored in the firearm box.
It’s been pretty temperature controlled but after many years I discovered that they warped. Also some discoloring going on.
Right now they’re clamped between two pieces of wood to hopefully restore their shape.

Empty 38 special case
Use an empty 38 special case between the grips and tighten screw...that keeps them separated...

^^^^What he said. I have perfect N-frame target football Goncalo Alves and very good walnut football N-frame target grips stored that way.

I got mine wrapped in newspaper, stored in cardboard boxes.
Wood I mean.
Rubber just gets piled in a drawer !

I built a wooden "shadow box" of sorts, with spacers between the sets and a slide-in plexiglas top. It is actually a display case.
Flat grips like from a single action are merely screwed together. Target grips are also screwed together, but with a piece of closed cell foam between them where the frame would have been.
The only grips I EVER had warp (including the ones I made myself) were 2 pairs of junk I bought fro Thailand, and they warped on the gun.

I have a set that were on the gun when I got it,but they had shrunk. I made a jig with two machine screws in grooves so I could store them under tension. I’ve found that heating them for a minute with a hair dryer as im putting them back on the gun makes them more cooperative.

I use eye glass cases to store all but target grips, I put the model and serial number in with them if needed.
