Just sitting at the PC thinking..........
We all know what happened when the B-19 flew over Japan.
We are all learning what has happened with C-19 entering the USA.
I just hope that I never have to meet D-19 !!

According to wiki only one XB-19 was ever built and it was scrapped in 1946. The only things salvaged from it were two main tires. One of which is on display at the Air Force Museum.

122 mm corps gun M1931/37 (A-19) (Russian: 122-мм кор********усна******** ********ушка обр. 1931/1937 ****************. (А-19)) was a Soviet field gun developed in late 1930s by combining the barrel of the 122 mm gun M1931 (A-19) and the carriage of the 152 mm howitzer-gun M1937 (ML-20)....

Quit thinking.
As we get older we are much less equipped to do that.

You guys are right...........
At my age, numbers, data, dates, names and other stuff sort of gets messed up..
sort of like hitting a "Fog Bank".
That sort of makes me think, that maybe I am getting close to getting
"Old timers" disease............ (smile )

I'm an old guy [88] And reading this about the B-29 brought back memories of B-29's coming back to Siapan all shot to Swiss Cheese. Good thing we never invaded Japan.

A note on that...... ;
I do remember hunting in Tuscarora Nevada with a very old man that wore light blue overalls and listening to his stories of how he and other members flew over the desert outside of Wendover Nevada, dropping sand bags on targets from their B-29's... (Got it right) for months and not being told why.
They had a fighter plane go out ahead of them to get a reading on the wind to help them hit the target but it did not always help, do to the cross winds that might be in the area.
On the big day, they were very worried about what the wind would be like.......
the news from the scout fighter came back.......
"Negative, repeate, Negative wind".
This gentleman was Felix "X" , that turned out to be the Bombardier that dropped the first A-Bomb on Japan.
An early thank you to all , for the coming Memorial day........
and a triple cheer for those that can't raise a glass, with us.

The only problem with that story is that the bombardier on the Enola Gay that day was Major Thomas Ferebee, a boy from Mocksville, NC.

That's interesting about Mocksville. I lived and worked at Ingersoll Rand there for a couple of years back in the 90's, and it was as small and dull as a town could be, but didn't see any monument to this native son that did something so monumental.

Take old US Hwy 64 west out of town, and there is a historical marker on the north side of the highway in front of the farm he grew up on.

Thanks for the info. Until now, the most memorable person I knew from there was the lawyer known locally as Shady Grady.

What about Danie Boone? He is somewhat memorable.
His parents are burried in the cemetary on 601 just above 64. Not far from Ingersol Rand. Boone's cave is on the banks of the Yadkin River south east of town.

Well then maybe he (Felix) dropped the second Bomb on Japan ?
He might have even have been like me and a little fuzzy with his story, but I don't think so. He had way too much info about all their training.
Felix also told me that they were told not to look back, after they dropped the Bomb !! Which makes scene.
Oh well just passing on, what I was told, I just guessed it was the 1st bomb, I don't recall if he stated which one, sorry if I got it wrong.
Now I am wondering if he dropped the 2nd bomb ?
No big thing, I guess. At least someone did and it helped stop the war with Japan.

"Kermit K. Beahan (August 9, 1918 – March 9, 1989) was a career officer in the United States Air Force and its predecessor United States Army Air Forces during World War II. He was the bombardier on the crew flying the Boeing B-29 Superfortress Bockscar on August 9, 1945 (his 27th birthday), that dropped the second atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan.
" Kermit Beahan - Wikipedia
One of my uncles, SSgt Thomas E. Greene was part of the 509 Bomber Wing during WWII. He went missing 3 March 1951 and quite possibly was captured and imprisoned by the Russians, along with General Cullen, SAC 2nd Air Force.
