Default New Job

Well, after more than a decade, a job that I loved was a casualty of the covid-thing. During the shutdown, I went ahead and obtained a new job; as I had feared, my old company isn't faring well. My old company, (a factory job), was hurting for money before the panic-demic. I wanted an "essential" job and a change from factory work, so I went to work as a Security Officer. I like it! The pay is pathetic, but there is more to it than I had expected. I'm working for a Japanese company in a FTZ, foreign trade zone.

This has me considering pursuing a Correctional Officer Position, at out county jail. I'd like to career path into a Probation Officer. I'm 52, but healthy and decently physically fit.

Any helpful tips or advise would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Congratulations! Those trade zone tax breaks are nice and complicated. Part of the government generated confusion that has kept me working for most of 45 years. That is an essential job.

I did 10 years in Juvenile Corrections, last 3 in Maximum Sec. Some very bad actors, murderers, gang bangers, sex abusers. etc. Some good kids too. Frustrating dealing with Admin. and County pols. Frustrating seeing rap sheets a mile long and they keep getting out. The *** got frustrated too. Some rough shifts, worked every Holiday, but that was double time &1/2. Great bennies and retirement. Some great people to work with. "We're going home" was the bond. You will know in your heart if it is right for you. Good luck.
