Maybe 600 miles as the crow flies from Perdido Key to Key West.
I'll bet it's closer to 900 miles on the road.
Have a nice trip!

Welcome to you - and your money! Obviously we are not all that concerned about anyone's health - we've been infecting people with tropical diseases since before we were ruled by the Spanish. There's a reason why we're known as Flori-DUH!

My wife just got back from Destin, Fl where she took a quick girl trip with one of her friends. She wanted to just go to the beach and lay out in the sun and play in the ocean a little and not be too close to other people. Well, a whole bunch of other people had that same idea and she said it was more crowded than she had ever seen it including on Fourth of July or Memorial Day. The plane was full, hotel was full, people and screaming kids everywhere and not a good place to be when the virus is spreading like wild fire.

My 90 year old dad absolutely lives, literally, for his annual July trip in Daytona Beach Shores. Much to the relief of everyone involved, he finally decided to cancel out for the first time in about 40 years.

Default My posts in this thread will be altogether positive!

Great flight from IAD though I arrived starving and thirsty. No food venues open at IAD near my gate. No bars, either. UA Club had beer, pretzels, and chips. No tasty food as normally the case...but I survived. No beer or real food on the flight, either. But nobody in the middle seat so it was a great flight.

Met up with the first of the crew to arrive at a beach bar. COLD beers and a grouper sandwich saved my life.

Tapped out early...big day manana.

Be safe...be well.

Enjoy your stay, apply sunscreen. Keep a "bandana" in your back pocket. If'n you run in to a "mask mandatory" place, tie it around your head and proceed. Bandanas allow you to breathe while satisfying "code." Orange county has "mandatory face covering" and will give you a ration of %%%% before sending you away. Hopefully you ain't going anywhere near Disney. Joe

Come on Down, I have been here for 8 days now. Yep, it is hot, attached is the 400 pound Bull shark we caught yesterday. the first tarpon lasted 10 minutes and the second lasted 2 minutes before the sharks got them, so we went for sharks. dang, never caught an 8 foot school bus before. The tarpon are hitting the the crabs. My regret is the change of rules, I wanted to put a 44 special between the eyes of this monster and have my photo taken old style with him hanging in an a frame on solid ground. Guide said he was about 8 foot long. The place was overran with people last week, but this week is a lot better on number of people. bring sun screen and a air conditioner.

The fishing is fine down here, Attached are two of the Tarpon from Monday, my largest and my son in law's largest one, but the boost of the day is that 6 year old grandson with his first fish every, showing with a mackerel bait fish. We let him pull in about 8-10 of these, I think the kid is hooked for life on fishing, especially after watching us pull in the big Tarpons and that 400 pound school bus that looks like a smaller version from the Jaws movie.

Big D, how’s Clearwater looking lately? That used to be my go to beach, but seemed a bit too “busy” last time I was there.

Default Clearwater Beach...

...where I am staying is great. First time here in a long, long while. Was a little kid last time; my Dad was in the Army Air Force in WWII and was stationed at Pinellas AFB for a bit. We visited with him.

My hotel is on the bayside but a great view and balcony. Cousins Maine Lobster in the building. Mmmmmmmmmm... Liquor store and a great bar right next door. More bars about everywhere you look. Junky beach shops and trinket stores abound. Might start my Christmas shopping!

Clearwater Beach has a bit of a edgy vibe...it’s fun and cool. Very nice people from all over the country are here visiting, and the whole place is lively with folks very much enjoying themselves.

Tapped out early last night after a lonnnnnnngggggg afternoon of day drinking! Feeling terrific today and off in just a bit to work off some poundage.

Be safe...be well.

Default More hotel info.

Was wondering before my arrival how the Residence Inn would address the obvious difficulties posed by responses to the Flu Manchu panic. Specifically, how would food and beverage service would be affected?

First, the hotel bar is closed. Not a problem...lotsa gin mills right outside the door.

A buffet style breakfast was formerly offered. That has been discontinued for a spell; now guests get a bag of prepackaged food in the dining area. They are encouraged to take it to individual guest rooms. MASKS MUST BE WORN INSIDE THE HOTEL WHEN IN PUBLIC SPACES. No mask; no food. Yes, that is strictly enforced.

Food issue is handled rather nicely. First day was two Jimmy Dean sausage biscuits, a banana, and a granola bar. Today I got a Jimmy Dean bacon and egg biscuit, an orange, and a container of yogurt. The JD stuff is microwaveable, of course. Well done, Marriott.

Be safe...be well.

Just saw this:

Halsey Beshears, the secretary of Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation, tweeted around 11 a.m. that the state is "suspending on premises consumption of alcohol at bars statewide."

Said the order is effective “immediately.”

yep, Big D is in trouble, they just closed all the bars for on site consumption. Carry out is available. Great move. In my opinion, that is one big reason they had 9,000 new cases yesterday. No common sense by a bunch of people running around Florida

I could be these bars in Florida need to follow the guide lines in Wyoming. I would sit in the oldest operating bar in wyoming and watch people drive up to the drive in window, order a mixed drink and drive away, drink in hand. I guess I will start looking for drive thru service while I am visiting the great state of Florida.

The big problem with COVID 19 is misinformation. No one knows how it is spread, where exactly the "hotspots" are, proper disinfection routines, environmental factors, the list is endless. As usual the population is divided: Hide under the bed forever or go out, hoot-and-holler, dance and sing, find true love through "beer goggles." Joe

The basic information on methods to avoid Covid 19 have
been clear, concise and consistent since mid March. When
more was learned, the guidelines were updated but not
really changed at all.

Hot spots are announced as the medical community
pinpoints them.

It has been certain political leaders who have rushed
to ease commercial restrictions against the advice of
the epidemiologists in the U.S. and across the world.

Default Tell them truth...

...my brother; can I get an AMEN!

The doomers will applaud my sudden death struck dead in my tracks on a street in Clearwater Beach as if struck by a lightning bolt.

BUT THEY WON’T FIND MY BAD SELF COWERING UNDER MY BED!

Be safe...be well.
