Dick's in the late 1980's was great but that is a long-long time ago. Back in that time frame a lot of the leadership came from JCPenney's, so i find it somewhat ironic that both companies are circling the drain today. It has been 10+ since I have set foot in a dicks.

If Dicks closes here in Bismarck ( which is inevitable), it will be a sad day, indeed, for all 8 of its customers.

Dick's has the best selection and price locally on golf equipment. I've gone to them to fully outfit myself, a daughter, and three granddaughters. Their firearms department was a waste of floor space.

Oh to have all the choices some of you seem to have. We have Dicks, and nothing else. Well stocked and excellent prices. I'm not into AR type guns so I could care less if they sell them or not. After what I just witnessed this country accepting over the last 4 months, I think a business deciding not to sell AR's is the least of our problems.

My modest collection consists of many types of guns, bolt, lever, revolvers, semis, shotguns. I'd like to have an example of all types of guns. I shot an AK-47 once and immediately hated the ergonomics. I shot an AR and really liked it. Then all the talk started about banning them. I ordered two lowers for future builds.
Like you say, there is more than one big issue here in the US today and I agree wholly. Dick's can do whatever they want to do but I don't have to like it. It's a matter of principle.

I have two grandkids in need of bicycles, we went to Dicks yesterday. In teen and adult sized bikes the had one men's 10 speed (too big) and 4 girl's mountain bikes (too heavy!) and about 20 bikes for preschoolers. You won't make money if you don't have merchandise and you won't have customers either. Kind of a basic rule of business!
You should decide what the customers won't buy, before you quit selling it. In the last several years, the guns that are selling best are the markets Dick's won't cater too! Another of those fundamentals of business!
No wonder Dick's is circling the drain!

I suppose all the anti-gun people they were pandering to didn't materialize to come buy clothes they could get most anywhere else.

Yet Bill Ruger betrayed gun owners far worse than Dick's, and suffered no repercussions.
Do a search on the www for "the Ruger Letter" for some eye opening reading.

I don't fault Bill Ruger for his words that were never put into action.
FYI S&W did however put their words into action.

Was not familiar with the Ruger letter. Just found it and read.
One could debate whether banning of hi cap magazines or banning of ARs and similar firearms is worse.
I think banning ARs and similar is far worse, but that’s just me.

Bill Ruger was an elitist, old school gun guy, like it or not. I didn’t agree with his decision.
My understanding was there were plans to build a modern Baby Nambu and he thought it was too easy to conceal.

Bikes are sold out everywhere, not just Dicks. My local bike shop still looks worse than my local gun shop. Everyone bought TP, bikes and guns.
In other news...I smile every time I slap a 33 round Glock mag in my PCC.

A local bike shop owner said his sales are up tenfold during the pandemic. He also said he is having trouble getting bikes in. They seem to be in short supply these days due to higher than expected demand. So . . . might not be Dick's fault, but then they are Dick's, so who knows.

I always go to Dick's when I go to the mall. Dick's parking area is empty so I get to park close to the door. Dick's store is empty so it is easy to get into the mall, and Dicks is at the end of the mall so I get a full walk in while at the mall.
Only downside is I go to the mall twice a year.

There is a Dick's in Union Gap, WA, about 20 minutes away, I haven't been in it and that works for me.

Galyan's started as a family business just West of Indy in the late 40's. They grew into a wonderful outdoor clothing, gear, camping, fishing, hunting and boat store chain.
Pat Galyan had expanded his family's business and started spreading out across the country. Dick's took note of the growth and volumes and ended up buying out Galyans and turned them into Dicks.
Around Indy, most of the Dick's stores closed. From what I've read most of the former Galyan's across the country have closed.
When Dick's closes, I'll figure Karma was served. Mess with perfection and you'll rot in Hell!

Was in a hurry the other day and went into Dicks for 3 things:
1. Looking for a Columbia fishing shirt for my dad. Didnt have any more Columbias, just their F&S brand that sucks.
2. Needed some 3-way swivels for perch fishing. Didnt have.
3. I buy black golf gloves for skeet shooting. Wanted a new pair in XL. Didnt have.
On the way out the nice manager asked me if I found everything ok...I told her nothing personal as I know the managers have ZERO pull but that they were 0 for 3 on simple things. I was nice and not mean and I could see that she was used to hearing that.

SWMBO had the best comment about Dick's with their business move. Her claim is that they shot themselves in their (insert the company name here).

A friend from Maryland called yesterday and told me he happened to buy a shotgun in Dick's. They had an advertisement for a semi auto shotgun for just a bit over 300 bucks. So they went in and since he and his wife are in the local fire dept they got another discount No tax in Delware and he got out the door for 271 bucks. So they went back today and bought another one for the same cost but it was 20 ga. Not a bad buy. I have seen one of the guns and even though made in Turkey they are pretty well made....5 screw chokes..with a 5 year warranty. He's giving the 20 to his daughter. She is a Delaware Prison guard.

Have a friend who bought a Turk semiauto shotgun a couple of years back (not from Dick's). It seemed surprisingly well-made. I took it out and ran a box of shells through it for him when he first bought it, no problems.
