Socrates about 350 BC:“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

Bingo. We also pay twice (taxes + tuition) so our kids can actually learn to THINK.

I sent both of my kids to private Catholic grade schools, so they'd be sure to get into private Catholic high schools, setting themselves up for acceptance into virtually any college they desired. They both left high school with G.P.A's over 4.0 and both left high school with a minimum of 20 transferable college credits.

They were both loved unconditionally and they were both raised with a "God and Country" attitude.

Both got excellent degree's and both have great jobs.

What's funny is how their kids are bringing home a liberal message and I wonder if my kids are raising their kids in a polite and conservative fashion, or are they trying to be kind and understanding to the perils of being a young person in today's crazy world.

God bless America - God save America

Colleges have changed over the years. My oldest once told me that one of his teachers (professors) in his first year of school said that she was related to the trees outside, as in family relation. He said she was a nutcase but he had to pass the class to move on. I.E., had to agree to some of her points, on paper. Liberal thinking did make its way into him over the years. Heck, he even voted for Bernie Sanders! That was a spirited family discussion. He's a good man though and I'm just as proud of him as my other kids. However, if questioning everything, even what you were taught and is known as fact, makes for a "wider knowledge of horizon" you can have it. No, I don't have a degree and don't regret it. Others in my family have college degrees from years ago and they stick to their beliefs, same as mine. College never "changed" them back then. Even they see the differences (mostly bad) in young people with degrees today.

We taught (yes, we home schooled) our kids to love God first, love their family and country (the good and the bad), along with other things of course, including the basics. One thing I constantly drilled into their heads was any decision they made in life was theirs, theirs alone. They couldn't ever blame a decision that they would make on anyone else. They have a brain to make decisions, period. We tried to teach a good moral compass and, hopefully, succeeded.

As far as taxes go, even though we home schooled, we still had to pay all the taxes for the local school district, just as if our kids were attending there...

In my youth I met plenty of "senior citizens" who were lazy, selfish, inconsiderate, immature, they voted in the politicians who established the welfare state with its sense of entitlement. Now we are reaping what they sowed. And I have met plenty of the young who see their elders as a bad example not to be followed.
On another board I noted I have met many younger people who have a strong work ethos because they got fed with the hand to mouth paycheck to paycheck-disability/welfare check lifestyle-forced on them by their parents irresponsibility. So the problem is not one of generations but of attitudes and values.

Well, Miss Pam and I are clear. Our oldest is a retired surgeon living in the lap of luxury in Southern Florida. She would rather roll in a fire ant bed than participate in ANY of that nonsense. Our youngest Passed away about 5 years ago. He was a good man, a good son, and a good father. Were he here today he would be a voice for reason, patience and common sense.

Hmmm...couple of thoughts here...

Some of the young people participating in these events are just immature. They're gullible, and have bought into a big lie that's being promoted every single day by politicians, activists, and pundits, namely that the police in this country are evil oppressors, and that the USA is inherently "unfair" to some citizens.

Complicating the problem is the fact that a lot of these young people grew up expecting instant gratification of their every whim...they didn't have to wait to get what they want, and don't see why they should. So, when a statue offends them, they assemble an ad hoc mob to tear it down, rather than approaching their elected officials to have it removed legally.

However...

There are other people involved in what's going on -- on both extremes of the ideological spectrum -- who don't care one bit about "justice" or "fairness" or whether particular lives matter. They are interested in the acquisition of political power, in order to remake our society, and they are seizing this opportunity to push their agenda. They are hoping for, and working for, a revolution, and we need to be aware of that.

This is a very dangerous time for our nation. When elected officials vote to defund police departments...when vandals are allowed to destroy public property without challenge...when the mayor of a major city surrenders square blocks to anarchists, and boots them out only when taxpayers file lawsuits...we are in serious trouble.

Pray for our country, friends...

I never had any children or grandchildren, and I have been paying directly or indirectly school taxes since 1977.

I would think that you are not in the upper age group of a lot of the members here because most of us had to work our butt off to help support our family and would've been embarrassed to accept handouts. There just isn't the same pride in oneself as there was in my time.

Both of my daughters turned out very well. One has a successful family business and twin boys turning 18 in time to vote conservative this year. The other a successful real estate broker. Both have a degree. Both started working while in HS and have never stopped.
Please do not label those that are out marching, stopping traffic, burning, looting, and hurting/killing people protestors. Protestors do not commit crimes. Rioters commit crimes and should be stopped by whaterve means required.

Here in NJ 75% of school funding comes from non-parents. The number of school budgets that are rejected by taxpayers has been steadily rising.
I hit the Big 70 last September, started collecting SS in March-been paying into for 53 years. Still work full time, still single, have worked hard all my life because I learned from my elders that "Money doesn't grow on trees."

How many senior citizens are being taxed out of their homes?

There are numerous cellphone videos that would suggest otherwise.

Unlawful assembly during a pandemic...Shutting down a public thoroughfare without a permit...Physically impeding citizens in their vehicles...Standing there protesting while a statue is being ripped down makes you complicit to the crime if you do nothing to stop it.

You can't carry your protest sign while looting a business but not all protesters carry signs so how can one tell the rioters from the protesters. It's not hard for these mush brained adolescents to get caught up in the adrenaline flow and do things they hadn't planned on doing from the beginning.

Sorry but when a protest escalates to the next level and you choose to hang around you become guilty not by choice but by association. There's really no other way to paint this picture.
