I have become a fumbler*!*
This aging thing is not for sissies that is for sure. Turned 66 last February, work out most every day so I am in pretty good shape overall. Getting more time at the reloading bench now.
But geewillakers I seem to drop things a lot when I am reloading. Bullets, brass and of course when I am checking powder loads I have to spill one or two during a session.
I use to have these nice and delicate/detailed hands that could do anything. They still work fine but things seem to want to jump out of my fingers for some reason. Am I the only one with this condition?
I played football and only occasionally fumbled, I must be making up for it now.

Be careful using a urinal!
You might get wet feet.

Ahem:
Daytime Fumbler
Smith & Wesson Geezers
I'm a-talkin' 'bout the daytime fumbler
Everybody got to go
Well I'm a-talkin' 'bout the daytime fumbler
The one you already seen before
I'm slippin' down the stair so badly
A-listen and you'll hear me groan
Well I'm a talkin' 'bout the daytime fumbler
And everybody got to go
(Yeah c'mon)
Talkin' 'bout the daytime fumbler
The one you already seen before
I'm talkin' 'bout the daytime fumbler
Did you see me stumble cross the kitchen floor
I don't give you a toot of warning
A-dressed up in my pajama cloak
I don't see the light of the morning
An I'll spit if my nose don’t blow
I'm tellin' 'bout the daytime fumbler
Well, honey, it's no rock 'n' roll show
Well, I'm a-talkin' 'bout the daytime fumbler
And everybody got to go
Oh, don't do that
Well, you heard about the…

I can relate, at 68 YO I seen the videos on replacing an I phone 6S battery and thought, yeah, I can do that! Well I did it, but those tiny screws that hold down the little plate covering the electronic connections are a serious challenge. Somehow they did not seem that small in the video. Either I'm not half as good as I thought I was, OR; maybe I never really considered what my actual limitations were. You know, a man has to know that!

A helpful hint: Use more powerful reading glasses. It helps me when at the reloading bench, but I'm only 64 1/2.

At 72, I’ve been fumbling for a couple of years now. Turned it into it’s own art form, as it were. Just yesterday I was cleaning one of my 1911s, dropped the slide release/stop onto the shop floor. There it is, right between my feet. Bended to pick it up, dropped it again, bended to pick it up a second time........ bumped my hand it against the shop bench, and dropped it again. Went to my hands and knees looking for it this time, found it, stood up and smacked my head against the corner of the shop bench. A nice little dink with blood. I thought it best to cover everything with a shop towel and call it a day......
My lovely wife though this was real funny......
I didn’t.

I'm with you guys (unusual as it may be-usually in the minority). I'm 72 and I'm a real dufus fumbler.
I was very happy to see these posts as I have been concerned about my dropping/fumbling things. I thought my grip had gone to pieces, but I think it is a connection between the grip and mind. I grab something, maybe take a little more time and pick it up, but I'm not holding it tight, though I "think" I am and....SPLAT or CRASH or, well, you get the idea.
I am honestly glad to see some of you others have the same problem and it's not just me. I wish none of us had it, but it's great to know it's apparently a somewhat normal part of aging.

Anybody tried to tie a #18 fly on a 1.5 lb. tippet lately? I haven't. Fingers and eyes seem to be in rebellion.

Huge loops and hemostats help! I always waste about 18" of tippet tying on a fly.

Huskerguy, I'm only 54 and I'm already in your boat! I've become such a butter fingers I can't believe it.
In addition to guns and reloading, I also dabble in repairing musical instruments. Real intricate, delicate work. I've lost a LOT of dexterity.

Yes, dropping stuff, fumble, things flying out of my hand. Always wear shoes/slippers when cooking, don't want to drop a knife on a foot.

So it's not just me? I'm 69 and spend lots of time picking stuff up off the floor. Ever notice that when you drop a casing or a bullet on the floor it immediately finds a place to hide? I won't even mention dropping a primer.

Funny. I fumble a bit now at 63. But I still can grab a falling knife before it hits the floor. I think reflexes will be next thing to go.

I have several PhD's in fumbling. My finger tips no longer have the feeling they once had. Picking up a pill is a job, a small pill is a project.
I tried, the other day, to put new line on a open face spinning reel and ended up so tangled up that I had to waste half of it. A lot of things are not operating as they used to.

Dropping things is child's play, wait till you start throwing things.
My poor wireless mouse has hit the floor so many times I bought a spare three months ago, more than once I've thrown my cigarette
at my face.
I need to see a neurologist but I keep forgetting to tell my PCP.
I can fit him in between my orthopedic surgeon who operated on my right hand June 25 and I'm seeing weekly for jell shots in my right knee for 5 weeks, and my general surgeon who was going to operate on me back in March but for some reason had to be delayed until July 27th.

I can't really complain - won't be 63 'til Fall....
And don't really 'fumble' so much as get fed up with not being able to see (close up) like I did for 90+% of my life.
I recall being able to easily read a mint mark on any coin. To read any s/n at a glance. Not need bright light to read....anything.
Had the all-too-common cataract surgery 2 years ago and went for 'distance vision', which is great. But now I'm very reliant on reading glasses for anything close-up. Reloading, gun work, fly-tying, reading, messing on the laptop/tablet, sometimes just to tie on a leader or lure or fly, etc.
ALL those years when I needed nothing other than the eyes the good Lord gave me!
OK, rant over.

Sounds like me. People say I won't admit when I'm wrong but that's just because I'm not wrong and they're just too dumb to know it.
Yeah I stole that from a Dilbert cartoon.

I'm a fumbler.....
...and my wife is catching up fast.
That's how old people get their exercise. Bending down is tough, dropping on all fours is worse because you have to find something to hang onto to get back up.
I'm not that old, just 65, but honestly, I'm pretty decrepit. It stinks. I used to be coordinated and athletic but I sure am racked up now.

Being 81 now, I'd like to impart a bit of wisdom to you all.
Don't ever try to disassemble or re-assemble a small complex firearm in a messy room. It's Murphy's law - when you fumble the smallest part in the gun - never do it in a messy room; it will guide itself into the most inaccessible and darkest place in the room.
So go look for it there first, and have Gun Parts Corp on speed dial if you can't find it. Once you have the part you ordered in your hands, you will find the one you fumbled. Guarantee.
John

I don't generally fumble things. I just drop them. I have neuropathy due to spinal issues and arthritis. I can drop a doorknob if I ain't careful. Funny thing is I'm still able to play guitar and am even learning new stuff. I don't like heavy guitars for long and try not to strap them on.

Husker; I am with you about fumbling. I've had years of practice & still not an expert. Aging is not for sissies. With age , glasses, 2 new lenses, 5 stents and several operations are mandantory. I turned 89 last month and still have my drivers license. LOL.

At 75 I have found that my Rheumatologist has helped reduce it somewhat, but it is still there and likely to get worse. There has to be something else to look forward to.
