I have a wireless computer mouse (Chinese made "IHome" brand).

I've had it for about ten years and I use it about six months a year.

It works fine, but it loves AAA batteries (it uses two) as much as my old Tri-Power GTO loved premium gas!

I tried rechargeable batteries, but they wear out after a while.

Anybody have a recommendation on a more modern and less "battery hungry" wireless mouse?

I just use a cheap Amazon basics wireless mouse, works good and batteries last for a few months

I have used Logitech wireless keyboards and "mice" for years. I've never had one fail.

Logitech mouse. Mine went through a battery every month or two, until I switched to Energizer Ultimate Lithium. They’re not cheap, but they last a long time and are well worth the cost.

I got totally hooked on a vertically oriented mouse after developing carpal tunnel. This is the brand:

I'm not very computer oriented, technically challenged according to my wife, but I have had excellent luck with my Logitech mouse. Had it for years and have only changed the batteries a couple times.

I have an Insignia wireless mouse that works well for me. I rarely use it so I can't really comment on battery life. I will say I've had it for over a year, the last time I used it was a few months ago, and I just turned it on and it works fine on the original battery. I'm pretty sure it wasn't expensive.

I've had a Logitech M510 for some years now. It uses 2 AA batteries. I can't recall the last time the batteries needed changing, it seems like they last forever, and it's good for word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing and CAD work. It's ergonomics must be pretty good, because I used to use it 10-12 hours/day for CAD work and had no hand/wrist problems.

From my days at Dell as an employee, I also like Logitech hardware. In April of last year I bought the "Performance Plus" wireless mouse from Costco for $17.99, plus tax. It was an advertised special, usually $27.99. I believe that it's the Model 705. They're $29.99 now from Amazon.

No functional or performance problems whatsoever. The batteries would last longer if I remembered to turn "Off" the mouse when I am on travel, or out of town!

Most wireless mice now (even $10 Amazon jobs) "go to sleep" after about 3 mins of non use. Just tap any mouse button and mouse wakes up. Cuts battery replacement dramatically.

Another vote for Logitech... the M325, uses 2 AA batteries and Logitech claims a 3 year battery life.


I can believe it for regular use... before retiring, I was an IBM Mainframe technical support technician and spent a lot of hours (an average of 8 hours or longer each day) logged on to Mainframe systems, and using that mouse continuously.

I remember only needing to replace the batteries after about a year or longer of continuous use.

Best thing about my Logitech M310 besides the generic alkaline battery life is despite countless falls to the terrazzo floor from the chair arm I work from the biggest hassle has been the brief search for the battery cover that pops off.

Logitech M325 for my laptop, M705 for my desktop.

My personal opinion is that I don't like the wireless mice. Those with a cord are trouble-free and do not need any batteries. The cord doesn't bother me at all.

A+1 for Logitech products.

Spend a little more and get some Eneloop rechargeable batteries from Panasonic. All I use now. Some are over a decade old and still in daily use. Made in Japan, the quality is miles ahead of any Chinese, or, even American made rechargeables. Be sure to get the Eneloop charger for best results.

With both the Logitech and Eneloop you really seem to get more than your moneys worth.

Actually DWalt, I'm with you on this.

The computer with which I use the wireless mouse is connected to my living room television and is across the room from where I sit, so a wire would be difficult in this situation.

I did, however consider running a wire to my current wireless mouse from some larger batteries hidden in my couch, but that seemed rather inelegant considering the technology probably had advanced.

But, yes.
A wired mouse would have been my first choice.

I assume they've gotten better since the one I had. I bought a Logitech wireless mouse a few years back - must be close to 20 years ago now. It ate batteries at an alarming rate. It seemed like it needed new batteries every week. I tossed it in the bin and have never tried another. The wire can be a pain, but I don't have to worry about running out of "juice."

Have used trackballs for many years. First the Microsoft one that really was an USB then the Logitech trackball, as far as I am aware, the only one now sold. Amazon had them on sale for around $30 a few days ago. Dave_n

Within a couple of weeks after posting and receiving your responses, I ordered a Logitech M310.

It was less than $15.00 as I recall.

I have used it a bunch in the last 13 months and is still on its first battery!

I am pretty good at remembering to turn it off when not in use, but it is still head and shoulders ahead of my old "IHome" brand mouse, which would have used probably over a dozen batteries in the same time, and I was very disciplined about removing the batteries from it when not in use. (It didn't have an "on-off" switch.)

Using one at the moment.
Battery friendly, no telling how many times it has fallen off of the chair arm onto terrazzo flooring and kept on working.

My Apple wireless keyboard batteries last a long long time however the wireless Mouse batteries (2 AA) will only go about 2 months before they need replacement. I buy the Rayovac batteries and get a bulk box of 72 AA's for $19 bucks (26 cents each) so no big deal. BTW, the Rayovac's actually seem to last longer and are half the price of the Duracell's!

I use a Logitech mouse, a fairly basic one, for 2-3,000 hours a year. Batteries seem to last plenty long. I wear the mice out after a few years, but they’re fairly cheap.

I wear out a mouse whether wired or wireless. I tend to use them all day every day. My current Logi M220 has been the best so far. I've had it several months and I think I changed the AA batteries once . . . maybe.

Yep... hard to beat a Logitech wireless mouse.

Before I retired as a Mainframe Computer support technician, I used my Logitech 325 on a daily basis on average for 10 - 12 hours a day... and it's still going after 5 years. I think I've replaced the AA battery 3 times... but I use lithium AA's.

I have found over the years tha most touchpads on laptops are very sensitive to movement, especially "Acer" and if you are not really careful you will be typing in places where you shouldn't. A wireless mouse is absolutely the way to go with a laptop. I use the Logitech M325 for my Mac and like it very well. The batteries seem to last a pretty good length of time.. I had a M305 that Ireally liked but the left click went bad and they are over 100 bucks to replace so I settled for the M325 but, if I ever find another 305 at a good price that is what I will go for.

years ago rayovac's had real issues with leaking. after a bunch of them(they actually sent me replacements when I complained, but THOSE leaked too) leaked into stuff I swore off and went to Sunshine(?) brand from Dollar Tree when they were 4/$1, and the harbor freight thunderbolt edge when they have a deal.

Logitech K260 keyboard and mouse combo, about $35 at Staples (about 15 years ago). I only recall putting a AAA battery in the keyboard once or twice over that time, but the mouse uses 1 AA battery about every 25-3 months.

My old wireless mouse, an "iHome" (?) brand, came with a wireless keyboard that I bought probably 10 or so years ago.

The mouse worked great, but it would go through two AAA batteries in less than two weeks.

I'm glad I replaced it with the Logitech M310 recommended by the Forum.

Curiously, the old "iHome" keyboard that came with the mouse gets two AAA batteries replaced less than once a year.

It works great and I use it still (I typed this and most other posts on this Forum with it).

I've had no luck with any brand of wireless keyboard on my ACER desk top. It might be because I have so many wireless devices and this computer won't handle that many.

I have used Logitech 300 cordless series for a long time. I bought a bunch of them so I always have spares for work and home. The battery lasts about a year (M310) and the mouse itself lasts about 3 years of very heavy use, and always it's the scroll wheel that fails. I think I had one's LED die after it dropped onto the floor once, a long time ago.

Rather than the mouse, look for the Logitech thumb ball if you are right handed. Much superior to a mouse as you simply leave it on the desk and move the cursor where you wish. Microsoft came out with the first "easy one" back around 20 years ago, but then decided to stop selling them for some reason. That one used the palm of the hand and thus was ambidexterous. Once you master the Logitech version you wiil never go back to a mouse. Dave_n

I have a logitech M510 and it is over three years old. It uses two AA batteries and they last about a year. It works great with no problems.

I use desktop computers with separate keyboards, I can't stand the "hunt and peck method". The MBH and I have both used one for 9 years without any problems.

It is the Microsoft (believe it or not) keyboard "Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 v1.0. It's big, large, oversized and ugly, but is very comfortable if you sit at a computer all day.

I recently bought another one for the Linux computer I set up for my music. Found it on ebay, in new condition for 50 bucks. It is wired, no batteries required.

It just works for me.

That is how both of us here are. Logitech MX Ergo, a little pricier but rechargeable so you save on batteries and once you get used to using your thumb actually very good. Plus once you find the sweet spot on the desk both position and angle you just leave it there.
