Far Side creator Gary Larson publishes first new cartoons in 25 years
After coming out of retirement, the cartoonist says digital technology has allowed him to rediscover the fun of drawing
Article here. ...A few years ago, he decided to try working on the project with a digital tablet rather than with a pen.
“I got one, fired it up, and lo and behold, something totally unexpected happened: within moments, I was having fun drawing again. I was stunned at all the tools the thing offered, all the creative potential it contained. I simply had no idea how far these things had evolved,” he wrote. “Perhaps fittingly, the first thing I drew was a caveman.”
... I hail from a world of pen and ink, and suddenly I was feeling like I was sitting at the controls of a 747. But as overwhelmed as I was, there was still something familiar there – a sense of adventure..."

I forgot about these cartoons until I saw a news outlet with an article this morning. Remember those desk calendars? They were everywhere in the early/mid-90s.

At one time the only reason I subscribed to our local fish wrapper (poor excuse for a newspaper) was for the daily Far Side fix.

I love “The Far Side”, my favorites were the ones with dogs. I always figured Gary Larson must be a fellow dog lover.
BTW, God bless Mr. Larson for sharing his humor, we are really in need of some good clean humor these days.

The return of The Far Side is the only good news in 2020. I’ve had Far Side cartoons tacked up over my desk for decades. Recently I’ve run across younger staff who, to my horror, have never heard of the Far Side. Gary Larson’s return is long overdue.
The best thing I saw on the website is that the Far Side page a day calendar will be back for 2021. One more reason to look forward to 2021.
