Hmm. I don't think "blocking" me in would do much to prevent movement of my 2500 Duramax. I've driven it through 16" of unplowed snow. I wonder how many inches of bicycle it can handle?

The sad part is that these thugs have advocates, many of them elected to public office, just waiting to pounce on any of you that dare suggest there be consequences to their actions, or dare to attempt to stop them from carjacking your vehicle.

When Reginald Denny took his beating during the riots almost 30 years ago, I noticed that his door was unlocked. Shameful. I also noticed that he did not just grab a couple more gears. When I experienced a questionable looking denizen of the street trying to flag down my semi, I just kept grabbing gears until he moved. Stopping for a group like that is well on the wrong side of ill-advised.

Chicago has a rep now across the U.S. and the world as a place to avoid. Downtown business is being raided daily by the worst scumbags you can imagine. (See post #1) Shoppers downtown are not safe day or night. Covid limits any normal out of town visitors. AFAIK all the museums, the planetarium, and the Shedd Aquarium are closed. Insurance companies intend to raise Chicago's business district and certain residential areas premiums by 100-500%. Every day brings new retail closures. The mayor is a wacko little twerp without a clue and governor Humpty Dumpty bought his election. So Covid has no end it seems, and the riots continue. Detroit will soon look like Camelot compared to Chicago.

I watched the Twins opening season (@White Sox) broadcasts this weekend, and Dick Bremer repeatedly commented on how Chicago is his favorite town to visit. I wonder if he drives through the South Side to Guaranteed Rate Field (the former Comiskey Park)

I was in Chicago last fall and had no trouble walking around, including both the Navy Pier area in the nighttime and the Convention Center by the lake day or night. I did NOT go into residential areas to just enjoy the ambience.

First, it was last fall, and second that carjacking was in a business area.
Not quite the same now.

Chicago has always been off the rails since it's inception., historically if you read about this city's history one can see the graft, political corruption, gangsters, Capone & others, kick backs, bribes., rigged elctions, prohibition & boot legging, the list goes on & on. At first I thought the thread title referred to IQ.

These potential killers arrive to Chicago's nicer neighborhoods via public transportation from the notorious south and west sides. They keep in touch via cells and converge on areas like a military assault. People in nicer areas are shocked beyond belief that such stuff goes on in their expensive neighborhood. It's like they think their status in life supplies a magic bubble that protects them. It's tough to feel sorry for them.

As soon as the first guy opened my door I'd have shot him and then booked out of there with no regard to whether that meant running over the ones that were in the way. If that isn't an in fear of my life situation I don't know what is.

Anytime I'm in a vehicle and start getting surrounded by a mob it's pedal to the metal time. I'm not going down without a fight.

The bad guys are in control right now. The good guys need to start fighting back. I still believe there's a lot more of us than there is of them.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot will fix all this. LOL

Last I heard the U505 was still at the Museum of Science and Industry. Not so long ago it was spiffed up which took quite a while. I was on it when I was a kid and again when many years later I was working in the building. A little known fact is that there's a WWI German sub at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

I think the doors in all newer cars automatically lock as soon as the vehicle moves. I believe the driver opened his door first, probably very confused/scared.

And a lot of them unlock when the car is put in park. It is my understanding that there are sometimes settings for that, but fixing that requires digging deep into the owner's manual if the information can be found at all. The consumer market puts convenience over safety, and car makers generally don't understand that. It's like my hatred for inside or marker lights that come on automatically when close to the car, or opening the door, etc. Try to get a dealer to address that (and I can recall one having to break the switch because there was no other way) and they have no idea why that is completely unsafe target indicator.
