Default Challenge Coin

My brother became a Salt Lake County Sheriff's Deputy back in 1981.

And retired 33 years later in 2014.

About a year after his passing I was posting pictures on an ATV FB page and noticed that one of the people who commented frequently also worked for the department my brother had retired from.
We became Facebook friends and a week ago I finally got the opportunity to meet him while he was here exploring and camping along the Paiute Trail with a couple of his friends.

So here we are.
Lee, on my right retired 2 years ago.
R Jay on my left is still active.
They both told me that my brother was the best supervisor that they have ever worked for.

What an honor to be standing between these fine gentlemen.

We met up here at the Museum.
R Jay said "here I have something for you" and handed me this coin.

R Jay currently works in a different precinct that he did when my brother was his supervisor.

He went to the precinct that my brother retired from and asked for a challenge coin. I guess they don't just hand them out.

We was asked who it was for and R Jay told him Jeff Lone's little brother. "Of course we have one for him".

Thanks R Jay. This is one of the best gifts I've ever received.

Thank you. Needless to say the coin made my eyes leak.

Default What a great thread and honored to give it 5 stars!

Kenny—I would have thought that Salt Lake’s crime would mostly entail someone not making the famous choir and getting rowdy! And, as usual, I would be dead wrong. They have one of the highest violent crime rates per capita in the nation. I have visited there several times and found it to be a beautiful, clean city. (I guess never went to the wrong areas). Emigration Canyon is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.

Your brother and his fellow officers earned their keep in that city.

My brother was a Sargent when he retired.
He chose to work the weekend graveyard shift in the highest crime area of Salt Lake, Magna.

He chose this shift for a couple of reasons.
The first reason was if he worked it then someone else didn't have to.
And, it kept him busy.

Emigration Canyon is the canyon that the Mormon Pioneer's came thru when the first arrived back in 1847 and said, "This is the place".

Utah is beautiful. I love living here.
