Who Remembers Gadabout Gaddis?
I was in Bingham Maine over the weekend for a memorial service for my father in law. Walking out of the cemetery I walked past a grave site that brought back some memories, the final resting place for Gadabout Gaddis. I imagine there are some here that remember his fishing shows on the tube back in the day.

Gary I'm sorry for the loss of your Father in Law.
And yes I remember the Gadabout Gaddis fishing show.
I also miss your Dad and think of him all the time. Still have his picture in my living room from when he donated the sabre to the Manross library.

I barely remember that show. It was on for 15 minutes at about 7PM on the only station you could get in my area.
FWIW 15 minute shows were popular way back then. (Late 40s early 50s)

I remember him well. His shows were about the pleasures of fishing and being in the outdoors with good company. Modern fishing shows are all about selling products.

I think I still have some of his lures, I remember checking the mail everyday for them to come in.

My friend's dad had a 54 Ford delivery with fat tires and a bunk that he would surf fish with on the Cape. He was a Gadabout Gaddis devotee and listened to the reports on where the fish were running. 60 plus years ago, time flies.

Thats the station I watched it on also.
Pretty strong signal from downtown Schenectady. Thats where they transmitted before they moved up to the mountain.

My father dragged me to at least one of his local presentations decades ago. The old windbag didn't do anything for me.

I enjoyed the Flying Fisherman as a young man! Thanks for the reminder of the show, his using Shakespeare tackle, and their distinctive white color. As TIMETRIPPER said his show was about the love of the outdoors, and enjoying nature in a quiet respectful way.

As I recall the local airfield was named after him; is it still? And one of the longest, desolate routes was between Bingham and Abbot. Lots of nothing. Probably all grown up today with out of staters.

Yup, the airfield is still there and in use. And up to recently Rt 16 from Bingham to Abbot was unchanged and as remote as ever...then came the wind turbines and ruined it. I stopped going through there after they built them, just to depressing to look at.
