Please Help! California Gun Laws changing January 2021
Hi. New here. Hope my CA gun laws question/inquiry
fits within the 2nd Amendment Forum. If not, please remove
While seeking one or two more guns (.45 caliber pistol
and a shotgun) noticing CA gun laws are changing or ending
after December 2020. Is there information on what the
new 2021 gun laws will be?
Are there guns I can buy today but will be banned in 2021?
Are there guns that are illegal today but will be legal in 2021?
Are there new guns ready to be approved to be legal?
My inquiry for me is to buy before or after 2021.
What do you know or where are videos or googlable articles
or Smith & Wesson Forum information?
Thanks ahead of time for comments thoughts ideas opinions.
Cheers Toppscore

Here’s a summary of the changes I found. It sounds like costs for CPL’s and transfers will go up, penalties for improper storage have been increased and the age to purchase a rifle has increased. Red flag laws have also changed.
New California Gun Laws Going Into Effect In 2020
At this point, the measures are already in place and there isn’t an actions members can take to head this legislation off. I’ll move this to the Lounge.
As usual, we will NOT discuss politics. I only posted to help the OP understand the changes coming. NO California bashing and if additional posts aren’t helpful/informative, don’t hit the submit button. Fair warning...

Short answer, no. Nothing illegal now will ever become legal and you'll probably lose even more rights to own any existing legal guns. Solution is to move.

The OP should contact and join California Gun Rights Foundation. California Gun Rights Foundation
They will help you with information specific to California
Everyone should be a member of a statewide gun rights organization, along with national guns rights organizations.

I like several youtube vid producers that deal almost exclusively with CA, offhand two are pro-gun lawyers. Bruce Colondy and Armed Scholar. GunGuyTV has lawyers as guests and be sure to make some popcorn for his long videos. I'm also a fan of Massad Ayoob, so much so that I'm determined to remember the correct spelling of his name.
I learned of one new law where you need to have a cable on your gun's lock box and attach it to somewhere inside the vehicle. Can't just throw it under the seat any more. Not sure when it takes effect.

Thanks. I am going to a FFL hopefully tomorrow.
I want to bring my gun for evaluation (not sure how,
guessing unloaded and put in the back of my Dodge van).
Also, if pricing is right, will investigate purchasing either a
.357 or .45acp handgun and a shotgun for short term
home protection. Later will purchase long term keeper
guns after understanding guns, shooting and safety.
Thanks again. Cheers

If you move to another state it will not matter.
Your freedom.
Your choice.

Good luck with that.
I visited an FFL/gun shop while I was visiting my son in Cali a year ago and the gun shop owner new less about California law than me, and that's saying a lot. He was spewing some "brain washed" garbage about national law that was totally wrong, namely about Binary triggers. I was just testing his knowledge.
What I'm saying, don't take their word as gospel.

Yes. I just want to take the tests, pay the fees, take the safety courses, learn to shoot and feel safe at home. I researched what is involved to get buy a gun. I get it. Hopefully the brainwashed retailer does not represent the entire CA state of FFLs - lol

I wouldn't mind living in AZ if it wasn't a million degrees in the summer.

Any firearms carried in a vehicle in CA must be unloaded and in a locked container not accessable to the driver and any ammo. must be in a separate container from the firearm. Do not take the firearm out of your vehicle when you arrive at the Gun store. Park in their lot. Advise the store staff you have it in your vehicle in a locked container and then follow their direction as to what to do next. In the current " Peaceful demonstrations" environment in CA being seen with a firearm in public, even in a locked case, can cause you extreme embarrassment for creating possible public panic. I am not joking.
