Default Racoon and Bear question

Ok...got 2 pictures that need info on. The first one, yes I know it is a racoon on the tree (he lives in a big oak a little back in the woods) but any idea what kind of bird that is? I have seen it before captured on the camera. Not sure of species.

2nd picture...Ms B in a belt? Is this some sort of tracking device? I thought that was usually done thru a collar. How it came to be on the bear is a mystery. I was going to call state wildlife folks and see if anybody was doing a tracking study. Strange. If that bear gains weight there may be trouble with being too tight. I have that problem with my belt quite often.

Thanks for the info that I know will be listed below.

I'm pretty sure the coon is going batty too!

Maybe that is Yogi and his tie and collar slipped lower.

I think that is a reflection or refraction from an insect or something floating in the air in front of the lens. I don’t think it is affixed to the bear, rather an illusion.

I have gotten some weird trail camera pictures at night.

I would contact the fun and games dept and show them the picture. I don't think it is an illusion as I think Ic an see a depression in the fur where it is at/ Although it is a bit blurry.

no way to id the "bird" with that pic. but, that being said, i also think it's a bat of some sort.

the bear, the raccoon - well they are both excellent targets and should be dispatched as soon as possible!

Agree with steelslaver on the bear. At first I thought some odd reflection but then noticed the depression on it’s back where the band is.

As for the UFO with the racoon? Bat is as good as anything. Nocturnal hummingbird?

I’ll go with a bat or flying squirrel with the 1st one. For the 2nd it looks like a reflection of some sort.

Did you have to turn in your pink belt?

Check the tree for a birds nest in the day and you'll probably see momma going to and from. Unless all of the eggs are already gone.

The bear? I'm clueless at this point.

Almost looks like an owl. There may be "pellets" on the ground if it has a regular roosting spot back there. I'd have to hear the wings; bats are almost silent fliers unless you're real close. Robins usually chirp like heck when they fly off nest at night, doves' wings whistle, the owl's wings just scare the heck out of you at night, kinda like a lesser version of a grouse. Or, it could be Mothra's baby!

Most likely its what they call "flying rods". It's what a moth or other larger flying insect looks like at night on a digital camera with a longer exposure time.

Bird is farther away from the camera because the coon is looking that way. It looks to big for a bat, flying squirrel or moth but about right for a whippoorwill or night hawk. I bet the bear band is maybe a neon light reflection. Just my guesses, fun game!

1. Owls (except for diurnal ones like burrowing owls) are totally silent.
2. Looks definitely like a tracking collar but WHY around the chest. Doing a heart study? I've collared a dozen bears and always around the neck. Maybe they had a problem with that bear "slipping" her collar? BTW: Collars use surgical tubing as a break-away; gets brittle in sunlight!
