NFL bans Live Performances of the National Anthem
In the name of preventing the spread of COVID-19, there will be no pre-game on-field live performances of the National Anthem for the 2020 NFL season. Apparently there can still be live performances of the National Anthem off the field which can somehow be "piped in" to the stadium. No on-field military or police honor guards either.

They will soon be using a sound track because there will no fans in the stadiums. Canned applause and cheering.

Why don't they just relocate the season to Cuba or Venezuela where they will be much happier?

Love football, but hate the mixing of politics, sports and spoiled, unpatriotic athletes even more. This stunt with the national anthem is just a way to incrementally eliminate it from sports in an attempt to placate the *******s. Soooo done!!

Professional “e-sports” are already a thing.
Yes, people get paid salaries and there are teams of video game players.

Be more fun to watch the local high schools. Tickets are cheaper, not as far to travel, don't get gouged for refreshments.

I stopped watching the NFL years ago. The best thing people can do is to stop watching. Once the revenue goes pretty fast down the drain things will change. Money talks...

I long ago proposed that not playing the National Anthem at events where it wasn’t going to be honored anyway was the solution to the kneeling issue . . .

If these over-paid, muscle bound cry babies take a knee, no one should watch. To me the NFL is becoming anti-American and can leave the shores anytime for greener socialist pastures.

I wrote to the NFL months ago with a solution to the political aspects during the playing of the National Anthem. I suggested that all cameras be trained on the flag during the playing of the National Anthem and then go to a commercial while the teams get ready for the opening kick-off. No response.

Personally, I got tired of over-rated, over-paid, criminally over-loaded professional football years ago. I agree with BLACKHAWKNJ. High school football is much more entertaining and you don't have to put up with a bunch of whining prima donnas either.

I used to love college ball, until to many players started to believe they were Golden. Sadly I've lost all interest in football.
Added: I do really miss the game day get-togethers with family and friends.

Instead of the NFL banning the National Anthem, it's more satisfying to ban the NFL........plus it free's up Sunday afternoons to go shooting.

Quit watching when half the Browns team kneeled. Now I get important things done like reloading. Nothing but a bunch of ignorant millionaires, I remember Jim Brown playing and followed the team over the years. No more, Larry

I’ve never understood why every sporting event in this country required a singing or playing of the national anthem. What’s particularly patriotic about sports? In the rest of the world it’s only done before games involving two different countries, which makes a bit more sense.
Then there were the British, who still used to play “God Shave the Queen” after movie performances back in the 1970s; of course by the time it played, only movie nerds like me who sat through the end credits were even still in the theater to hear it. Startled me the first time.
A look into history shows that it was the NFL which foisted the habit onto American sports after WW II., so I guess the NFL can stop it too. Just not doing it might benefit all by avoiding all this blood-pressure-increasing symbolic aggravation.

I went to a movie house one time in Toronto. There, they played "God Save The Queen" before the feature started, complete with a projected picture of the Queen on-screen. I still remember that in some detail. The movie was Dr. Zhivago. I also attended a Queen's Birthday celebration at the British Consulate in Abu Dhabi, quite an event.

Although you would hope it was the opposite but the Dept. of Defense pays the NFL to allow jets to fly over during Super Bowel. Crazy to me.

I haven't watched or followed any football in so many years that I can honestly say it is much more fulfilling to find alternative forms of entertainment. Football? Blah, I couldn't care any less than I do now.

Just a reminder of the double standards we see today.
Remember what "they" did to Tim Tebow for taking a pregame knee in prayer?

The day that NFL teams start laying off players will, IMO, be the day that signals that common Americans are almost back in control of their country.

I know that the NFL had planned to play both the BLM Anthem and the Star-spangled Banner before the first games of the season. I haven't seen if that is still being considered in light of the recent decision to ban on-field anthem performances. Under the present circumstances maybe it's better to play nothing. Assuming there will be a first game.

The Official reason is to prevent CV 19 spread by minimizing people on the field (which includes reporters, photographers, coaching staff, players, cheerleaders, and anyone else who would be hanging around the sidelines). Unofficially, I think we all know the reason.

Agreed. The NFL now has the perfect (for them) excuse to ban whatever their string pullers consider to be 'offensive'.

Something to Ponder… The United States has become a place where entertainers and professional athletes are mistaken for people of importance. I have needed a Doctor, I have Needed a Soldier. I have Needed a Policeman. I have needed a Fireman. I have Needed a Teacher. I have needed a Mechanic. But I have never needed a media personality or a Hollywood entertainer for anything!

I hate subsidizing their stadiums like they are poor. Dropped cable since a large part was something I did not watch. To each their own. If you like sports, fine. I just don't want to pay their salaries.
