Default Hyper-affectionate pets

Who has one? For sure the guy across the street does. His cat ambushes folk in the street in the evening and pretty much demands to be petted. Once you start, you are given a week to finish. There's no simply walking away, he'll follow you, straight into the garage given half a chance. Rather than be mean and shoo him away, my wife has to close the garage door then let me in the front while I tell him "no" as he tries to follow me in.

Maybe it's just me. I have been "that guy" with other people's pets since I can remember.

"Only my husband can put a leash on Fang...oh and that kid Steve next door"

Buddy's mum: "What's the cat doing on your lap?"
Me, thinking the cat isn't allowed on the furniture: "Errm, sleeping."
Buddy's mum: " So I see. It's just that I've never seen her get on anyone's lap."

Owner: "Please don't tell me you just gave the macaw something."
Me: "Oh no. It was a piece of apple. Is he allergic?"
Owner: "No, but you see this scar on my hand..."

Maybe I just smell friendly or something.

I have a cat who is super smoochy, to the point of waking me up by jumping on me and rubbing her head against my face very firmly for several minutes at a time. She purrs very loudly while doing it, and has her one eye tightly closed (She only has one). For about the last 8 months, there has been construction next door on an assisted living facility and she's basically a nervous wreck, and very skittish. She still climbs up on my most days just before the alarm goes off and does her face rubbing. As soon as she wakes me, I turn off the alarm, because if I let it go off, she jumps in a panic, and I get cut open. Right now, my chest and stomach are covered in scratches from her jumping off me when something startles her.

Gracie and Petunia, my toy Aussies, both have a way of being very affectionate, jumping up in my lap, or on my chest if I am in bed, rubbing against me and begging to be petted. My first reaction is to be either annoyed or flattered at the attention. That only lasts for a couple of seconds, until I remember that this is their way of telling me they need to go outside, like, right now.

My folks' golden retriever. But I think that is normal for a golden.

Our cat is just the opposite. We’ve had him eleven years, and he is the most skittish cat we have ever seen. He comes out to use the litter box and eat, all the while keeping an eye on us for any movement. If we move to fast, he’s off to his favorite hiding place in a flash.
He hasn’t let us hold or pet him since he was a kitten.
He was the last one born, and was the runt of the litter. And the last to be adopted.
I think he was “broken” from the start. We kept him because we knew other people probably wouldn’t keep a cat like him, and he may have been moved from one family to another. We didn’t think that would have been a fair life for him. So we just give him his space.
He is our second cat, and completely opposite from our first one.

My beagle Brady has to be sitting on the chair with my wife or I if we are sitting in the living room.
When one of us got to bed he must jump up on the bed and snuggle tightly to us.

I think animals can tell who they feel comfortable with even when they are not familiar with the person. Some cats will never be able to relax around anyone, just the way they are built.

My horse has been my primary (animal) trail companion since 1998. He looks for me when I open any house or vehicle door and puts his head affirmatively into either halter or head stall. He always nickers when he sees me and will go anywhere at all with me, with or without bridle or saddle. My wife claims he would sit on my lap if I'd allow it.

You should let him try at least once. Make sure your wife has the camera ready!

They have their personalities. 15 years ago one Summer's eve I was walking in a nearby town, saw this big old pale orange cat, reached down to pet him....you talk about an instant friend, the next thing I knew he was rubbing against my legs, weaving in and out-I couldn't get rid of him. Another time I was at another house for a soirée, the Lady of the House told me their black and white long hair female was a little on the aloof side. The cat came up on the sofa where I was sitting, gave me a few sniffs-and draped herself across my lap.

I don't care for cats and most realize it and stay away from me.
But my vet's office had a resident kitty, a petite tabby. that little thing would jump up on the counter and schmooze and rub me every time.
They said she did that with very few of the customers.

I wouldn't call him "hyper affectionate" but my 150# Anatolian Shepherd likes to sit on my lap (when I let him).

He is "snuggly" though, more than my previous dogs.

Default My friends have two..

...Yuengling the cat and Bane the black Lab. Both love EVERYONE but only tolerate each other.

Yuengling is a 15# orange long haired furball who insists everyone scratch his fat belly. Then his ears...then pick him up.

Bane is the only Lab in the world who doesn’t like water but loves all humans. A stranger could walk in the yard, put a leash on him, and take him home. He would be thrilled..likes to ride in cars.

Bane also loves cigars and cigar smoke. When I visit and light up I have to be careful lest he take it out of my hand...again. Truth.

Be safe...be well.

I had two cats for 15 years and they just put up with me as some one who feeds them. However one of them got sick and passed on so now the other cat has be touching me anytime I am in the house. I now have to close the bed room door at night if I want to get any sleep. I just roll with it because I know that losing a life long companion has to be devastating for the poor cat.

My current cat doesn't like other cats but has become a neighborhood cat with a fan club. There is another cat here-same thing. I've watched him east a can of cat food in one sitting. Another family I knew had a very large-and very friendly-German Shepherd. "Some watchdog!"

My barn cat is a feral cat that caught in a live trap on three consecutive days, and due to being a small kitten, I didn't have the heart to kill it. It was too wild and vicious to touch, so I just stopped setting the trap for a few days. After a few days, this weak, almost starved kitten found its way to my barn, and has remained there ever since. I don't do cats, but she doesn't know it. My wife is the only person that pets it, and I do the feeding.

The next door neighbors had a gray cat that roamed the neighborhood. Mario was very affectionate with everyone in the neighborhood, but he seemed to especially like me. Every time I got home he'd come running for his rubdown. I had to be careful when I closed the garage door. More than once he spent the night in my garage and was waiting for me the next morning. Several time he followed me into the house which did not set well with our cat or the three little yappers.

Mario passed on about three years ago. I still miss him.

I've got an 85 lb. dog named Sebastion. He's a Brindle Pit Bull. Not only is he a lap dog {actually just his front half makes it into anyone's lap} but he is multi-talented. He's just as good being a bed hog. He also barks at umbrellas, is scared of thunder, lighting, doesn't like rain, really doesn't like fireworks. Also, he thinks most strangers are popsicles suitable for licking.

My old Rotweiller Kuma was not so social. In fact he didn't care for strangers trying to pet him & he absolutely hated clowns. However, he was a good dog & an awesome home protector.

My Boston Terrier Ruby has always "hugged" us every day. She seems to need direct contact with people and is the sweetest dog we have ever had. We bought her at a pawn shop in Ruskin Florida 6 years ago as a pup and the employees were carrying around the puppies while working. Sweetest dog ever!

I had a rat terrier that would lap gin like water. I always stopped him as soon as I caught him drinking from my drink, so I don’t know if he would have gotten drunk!? I suspect he would have.

An old girlfriend of mine had two cats. One was considerably larger than the other and was definitely the dominant animal in the house. But both of them would simultaneously lay across my lap in perfect harmony My old girlfriend was amazed.

Just for clarification, do you mean an elderly girl friend or an old girl friend as in long ago...

They will get drunker than a skunk. I had a Basset that loved beer, and when he finished his second beer he'd stumble around tripping over his ears, walking into the wall, even walking backwards - just friggin hilarious beyond words. He needed to join AA.

And then there's the 1500 lb hyper-affectionate Angus bull who thinks he's a lapdog and will try to climb up in your truck with you if you don't watch him careful!

The mutts here are typical affectionate golden retrievers and for some reason animals like dogs and cats have always been comfortable, relaxed and quite loving around me, children also take to me very readily. Better half just claims that is proof that I am not the AH that I pretend to be or try to convince others of.

My old Lab Joe would climb up onto a couch or chair with anyone he liked, and put his throat across their face or neck and have a very odd "worried" look on his face. His 96 pounds scared some people, but once they realized he was being friendly, they were mostly ok with it. My one friend was terrified of big dogs, and Joe instantly got into his lap and "gave him the face", and I thought he was going to pass out.

My other dog at the same time, "Blackie" had a strange deal where she would stand up on her back legs and twirl around and when she would be petted to the point she was satisfied, she would sneeze, spraying the victim with droplets of mucus. If she was home alone for any length of time, there would be multiple sneezes. One of the things you had to watch for with her was she constantly chewed her front toenails and would make them like little razor blades. She would rake you just because she was so happy to see you. I have a bunch of scars on my arms from her slicing me open. Here she is playing with Joe in early '78:

And the other side of hyper-affectionate pets.

I lost almost all my pics of Farfel in a move. A box of pics never made it across the country. This guy was one cold dude. Hug? He would stiffen up and get this look on his face of total disgust. Kisses from anyone except my mother would make him flinch and pull away, and he wasn't thrilled about her kissing him either.
One positive thing about him was you never had to worry or fight with him about space in the bed, as just you being near him would start him sighing almost immediately, and within about a minute, he would leave, off to the couch in the family room, where he would stretch out and sleep with his head on his favorite pillow, like the dog below that came along 20 years later did. Farfel loved to play tug-o-war, and the insane noises he made were entertaining to everyone but the neighbors.

Our lab Arlo is super affectionate. He never met an enemy! I had him at the vet last week (he's 14 months) and asked her if he met breed standards so I could breed him. She said no he didn't (runt) but many people would love to breed him because of temperament. I'm disliked at the local dog park because he's not fixed and not a "rescue".

We have had several rotts and rott crosses, and most of them have been very affectionate with us.

When you say hyper-affectionate pets that reminds of my best friend in grade school that had a dog that would immediately hump your leg as soon as you came in the house.

That's my wife. I call her "Earth Mother" because all creatures, great and small, come to her. Not just critters, but small children too.

I did service work in peoples homes from age 16 to 52. I had birds land on my shoulder, plenty of dogs get petted and in general had no problems. I do have a cat allergy and asked people to keep theirs away knowing with the amount of hair around I was going to have problems later anyway. I have been bitten by dogs twice and geese once while doing utility work in a yard, from meter maintenance to meter reading.
In general I thinks pets should be kept in a yard. There is only one letter added to pet to make pest.
