Isn't this used to describe a bad hunter's eating habits - food made with plant based material?

Plant based wire coating
I remember a car company put plant based coated wires in their vehicles a few years ago and people that parked them outside-in suburbia and city were having rats get in to motor compartment and chewing through the wires. Interesting side effect of plant based.

I am also reminded of the old Twilight Episode, where the alien book "To serve man" turned out to be a cookbook.

I like tofu as tofu. What I’ve noticed is that generally the tofu for sale here in the the US is a lot firmer than that sold in Japan. Nowhere near as tasty to my palate. In Japan, tofu is eaten as an appetizer, sprinkled with ground ginger, thin sliced scallions, soy sauce and maybe some chili oil (raiyu). It’s pretty good that way, hot or cold. Probably my favorite way to consume it. Or it’s diced when put in soups. It has a very plain taste in soup, though pleasant enough. My wife, who is Japanese, puts it in seafood chowders, which may just be her. Probably puts it in a lot of other stuff that I don't really notice, too.
I think the reason many people here in the States don’t like it much is that we try to make it taste like something it is not, and it winds up tasting like cardboard.

Most probably there are 4 things too many in that glass.
If you follow the Manhattan Recipe.

That explains it pretty well.

I lived on C rations packed in 1952 for months while in Vietnam, they sucked and got boring very quick, you can survive on them. The only meal that was edible cold was Spaghetti and Meatballs (think Chef Boy RD). I have eaten a plant based burger made from beans and other vegetable matter that was just as good as the best meal in the arsenal of C rations. All you need is a bun or some chili to pour over it and its pretty dang good, I've eaten the "amazing burger" from Burger King...you'd have to be an idiot to not know there was something odd about it, no grainy texture for starters (grainy texture supplied by round up intestines) but it was good all the same.

Animals eat plants, so meat is "plant based". My favorite is
"Organic"==anything than contains carbohydrates (carbon & hydrogen & oxygen).
"Non-GMO"=Non Genetically Modified=People have been modifying the genetics of organisms make-up since they started selective breeding of plants and animals!
BTW: The Burger King "fake whopper" isn't bad (but TOO expensive!), better than the Carl's Jr burger.

You can make plants a treat? I might give that a try, Mom always said I didn't eat enough veggies.

So I love my meat as much as anyone, but I’ll tell you, when it comes time to pay the bill, you start thinking differently about it. Last Friday, at 51 yrs old, I had a stent put in to repair two major blockages in the “widowmaker” artery. Had I not caught it in time, w/i 2-3 wks I’d have been dead. I ate lots of meat and fatty foods, but not particularly overweight.
Everyone’s different and I don’t want to be preachy, but if the bulk of your diet is meat and grease, you might want to take a better look at changing things up to a healthier plan, ‘cause when things get real it’s pretty damn scary. Definitely for me plant-based options have become more attractive, and if they taste good, then I don’t care if they’re not “real food”.

Oops--didn't see post 57 and 69, just a knee jerk reaction when I saw the reference. Those scoopers would have been handy in Portland or Seattle, no?

If it doesn't come from a test tube isn't it all plant based? Even meat comes from critters that eat plants.
