Default Who remembers The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh?

In early 1964, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color broadcast three episodes of The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh...the story of an 18th century English pastor who led a group of insurgents, smuggling untaxed goods into the country and helping those resisting King George's oppression.

Not long ago, Disney released The Scarecrow on Blu-Ray, and I'm enjoying it all over again...especially that theme song and show opening...

I loved that show! Disney at it's best. In color too, very cool. Had not thought about it many a year.

The great Patrick McGoohan played The Scarecrow, and some very well-known English character actors starred in it as well. Despite being on Disney, it's not a children's story, strictly speaking.

I was only 11 when it was first broadcast. Watching it after all these years is like discovering it for the first time all over again.

Old Disney movies are favorites here with both of us and passed to nieces and nephews, the best were excellent and the not so best still quite entertaining.

I remember watching that Scarecrow show with my sister. Sunday nights about seven or so, if memory serves. (Man that theme song sounds hokey today, doesn’t it?)

I vaguely remember that show.
Looking now the colors in that show and IIRC all the Disney shows were so vibrant and saturated. Technicolor?

Remember it??!!! Hey, I not only remember it, I recreated it for my Halloween costume one year. I didn't even have to do anything...just sat there on the porch as kids came up to the door. Scared the living powahden out of 'em. Heck! Some of them still talk about it today. I've had people come up to me and say, "Are you going to be that scarecrow thing again this year for Halloween?" Yep. The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh is definitely a memorable character.

I agree, the look and feel of the old Disney movies are a lot of the appeal. Blackbeard's Ghost, Treasure Island, Swiss Family Robinson, Old Yeller, the list goes on and on...

That’s great, Mule Packer!

As to whether it was in Technicolor, my guess is yes, but we only had a B&W in those days so I wouldn’t know. I suppose B&Ws aren’t even made anymore. My parents did not have one until I was well out of the house and my dad inherited one in the early 1970s. I didn’t own one until I bought one in the 1980s.

I remember seeing it when I was about four or five, but I was born in '61 so it must have been a rerun. Thanks for reminding me of something that I don't recall much about now, other than being very excited (and kind of frightened) about it at the time.

Default Not only do I remember it....

A ways back my wife and I were discussing it so we found it on Youtube and watched the whole thing. It was still great as I remember it. If a movie had 'Disney' in the name, you could count on it being good to excellent.

The Disney TV show had a lot of great stories. Two I remember are:

Swiss Family Robinson was HIGHLY appealing to me. It was a premise for 'Lost in Space'.

"A Taste of Melon" was another favorite.
