...tell you all about a book by Mitch Albom titled: Tuesdays With Morrie. Albom is a news paper journalist and his friend Morrie was terminally ill. Mitch would go over and visit with him on Tuesdays.

Morries outlook and philosophy and attitude about death and dying have given me a fresh perspective. It is a short book and although I'm a slow reader I read it in about 3 hours. But it is very moving and I recommend it highly.

It was made into a move with Jack Lemon and Hank Azaria in 1999. I haven't seen it but I strongly recommend reading the book.

My daughter gave it too me when her mother was near death. I wish I could explain how it helped me and because of it i was able to find some comfort.

I think every one should read it, especially all us older folks as we all have friends and relatives that may be passing soon.

You can google Tuesdays with Morrie for more information.

Saw the movie years ago. I have a buddy named Mike, he has a certain degree of attitude that comes out at its best on Monday. Its like he sat around eating razor blades all weekend, come Monday morning his cutting wit and sarcasm are at their best. There is a small group of us that gather on Monday mornings at the gun club to drink coffee and b.s. I named those Mondays...Monday with Mike, he rarely lets us down.

I read the book and saw the movie. Morrie had Lou Gehrig's Disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS). ALS is a deterioration of the motor nerves that carry signals from the brain to the rest of the body. The sensory nerves and thinking processes are unaffected, so the patient sees what is happening to him every step of the way. The causation is not known, there is no cure and the diagnosis of ALS is terminal. Treatments are very limited and at the time of my mother's death there were no approved treatments at all. One approved treatment that extended a patient's life for maybe three months may have been available during Morrie's life.

I was involved with the ALS Association because of my late mother, who was diagnosed with ALS in 1987 and passed away from it in 1991. Morrie's declining condition was a carbon copy of my mother's. I was part of a support group that met outside Hanover, PA in order to help the new patients and their families. I definitely recommend reading the book and watching the movie.

I have the book, need to dig it up and re-read it now that I'm older.
