Default Meltdown at Winged Foot

Great 2020 US Open golf tournament last week at a super challenging course, eliminated some of the best players from the huge purse and left all but one competitor unable to better par.

This video of Danny Lee probably sums up the frustration of many of the players at the century old Winged Foot Golf Club.

Congratulation to winner Bryson DeChambeau for leaving the field in your dust.

Shoot, that ain't no meltdown. I recommend two golf movies. Tin Cup and an Adam Sandler movie which I can't remember the name of right now where he played using gardening tools for clubs.

Happy Gilmore. Technically Tin Cup did the same.

They call it Golf because all the appropriate four letter words were taken!

These guys are the best in the world and are playing for big money. The course is supposed to be challenging. Tiger didn't even make the cut.

"Golf" spelled backward is "flog".

"Leftie" & the tiger could not find the fairway and last years winners chocked at the end.

Just shows us that it is anyone's game to win if you can manage the game..............
between your ears.

Mercy, that course was a killer that week !!

I like Danny Lee. He has tremendous talent, but he should have walked away with a costly, but not deadly 3 putt. After he missed his second putt coming back he started to beat the ball around like a 5 year old. Not cool.

........ and I think he withdrew sighting a wrist injury. I am a golfer, play every weekend. The game is very difficult and is a life long journey. I am not great, but I am consistent. I enjoy it as much as shooting, hunting and fishing. I will not play with the temperamental players. Throwing clubs, cursing, ranting and raving have no place on the golf course. You hit the shot, shut up and take responsibility for the outcome.

I didnt get to view the majority of the Open , well because I was out golfing on Fri thru Sunday.

This display by Danny Lee is unacceptable.
do you see those logos on his shirt , hat, bag ect??
those are sponsors who pay him good $$ to act professional.

Ernie Els 6 putted on the first hole of the Masters about 4 years ago. It can be a cruel game, even for The Big Easy!

I have lived most of my life within a short drive of Winged Foot.

When I was a teen I had several friends that would caddy for that club. They made good money at the time, some tips were quite generous.

Never going to the club I just see it as Bushwood from Caddyshack.

I like to play, but don't get on a course very often.

For some reason, I always end up in a group with some "expert" telling me how I'm doing it wrong.

My response to them all is always the same... "Yeah, but I don't keep score."
They usually respond with a wince and a nervous twitch.

The rest of the round is usually pretty quiet, just the way I like it!

My mother tough my brother and I the game since she was a member at the local club in Mill Valley, Calif. that was not a flat layout but more of a terrain for Billy Goats !!
A Great course, since you had to learn all the shots from uphill, down hill, left or right slant and the roll of the ball going down the hills on a dog leg.

As we got older we got to play more courses and even Harding in San Francisco that was my mothers favorite "Major" to play, and she has hunks of silver to prove she knew how to plat the game.

I did play on the HS golf team and was fair at the game but only had one hole in one with my mothers, Lady's 2 wood, that went 272 yards at the Meyers Calif. tournament but I did not get any BIG $$$, since I was under age and in High school................. but I did received a nice pair of slacks and a sweater and made the news paper.

Loved all the places that I was able to see, even, when in the military and as I got older. I only have two major rules that I lived by...............

Pro's put on the "High side" and most of all...........
never up, never in !!

Flytyingfool - I like the fact that you are there for fun. Now, I like to compete and play in leagues and have some success here and there, but the goal is to have a nice time. I was playing with a guy Friday and he was getting irritated with his game. I asked him, how lucky are we ? We left work at 12n on a Friday and we are in a beautiful setting with great weather enjoying good company. If you are finding a way to complain you should re-think what is really important.

On another note, I need to learn to ty flies.

BTW Wheelguns28, I got my start playing golf by caddying. I made decent money in the 70's reaching honor caddy status. In addition, just like in caddyshack we got to play on Mondays when the course was closed. My parents bought me a starter set and I played as much as I could. we fished balls out of the ponds and played with smiley faced wound balls tee to green. We kept one nice ball for putting.

I love the idea of playing golf, but I was always lacking in the execution. I would hit a 280 yard drive down the middle, then it would take me three more strokes to reach the green. Somewhere on the back nine, I would be saying, "I paid $50 for this?!?"

That's why I quit golf and started playing more tennis. At least you can play tennis for free!
