SAD DAY INDEED - AFTER 13 GREAT YEARS CODY HAS PASSED
Today was a very sad day for my family and I - we had to put our beloved Golden Retriever Cody down. He had been in steady decline over the past year (his hips went) and over the last three weeks he really got weak, lost lots of weight and stopped eating his dog food. I would BBQ him a steak every night as that was the only thing he would eat. Today he would not even eat that and I knew he was fading fast. When his gums turned white and his breathing was hard, I knew to prolong the inevitable was not fair for him p he was too good a family member to have to suffer any longer.
He hated going to the Vet - but today he put up no fight - his last trip. The worst part is that we were not allowed to go into the Vets office because of Covid so we had to say good buy in the parking lot.
Cody was 13 in July and lived a great life while enriching ours even more. He was our 5th Golden and the best one yet!! We will greatly miss him and the the coming weeks and months are going to be very tough.......
This was very hard to compose but it will help me get through today.

I think all dog lovers on the form are grieving with you, it is hard to lose a friend/family member. My Golden is 13 and showing signs of age, Still comes to the breakfast table to get the last bite of my peanut nut butter toast. God and dogs give unending love.

Friends doggie passed recently at 14, and I played with her almost daily since she was a little pup.
Feel like I lost a good friend there.
Told him that he gave her a good life.

I don't think there is another dog owner alive that doesn't feel for your loss.
I lost my best buddy to bone cancer at age 7, that was 16 years ago and I still miss him.
With time, I found that when ever thought of him, instead of sorrow I found myself smiling, because it was a memory of something goofy that he would do that made me laugh... I hope you'll come to experience the same thing as well.

I’m sorry for your loss.
One of my Springer Spaniels also turned 13 in July. She had an episode about 3 weeks ago, but has recovered about 80%. I’m under no illusion that she’ll last for another year: weeks or months is more realistic.

CODY
So very sorry for your loss. They indeed very quickly become a large part of our lives. I've been there and gone through it as well. I think of my three girls EVERY day. My Sarah just turned 9 and time slips away far too fast. They leave Love and memories in our hearts. Cody is a great looking pup. GOD BLESS.

Cody, RIP. We have a back yard out by the fence line that serves as the
last resting places for our pet family members.
Daughter in Hot Springs has two dogs that she informed me are coming
here also when the time comes.

Cody -- what a great name for a Golden.
Chief, our hearts break for you in this loss. I love most all dogs, but Goldens are special. We have two of them, and there is just something about those dark eyes and nose and that Golden grin that just naturally puts a smile on one's face, the same way a cute baby girl or boy does.
I know there's nothing I can say that will make it better. Just know that your grief is shared, as is your love for this wonderful breed. There's another Golden guy or girl somewhere in your future, I am sure, but now is the time to focus on your memories of the great companion your Cody was.
He had a "snow nose," just like one of our girls does.

I am so sorry to hear about Cody’s passing. I have had Golden’s throughout my entire life. Over that time I have learned one thing for sure.......he valued his time with you as much as you valued your time with him.
May there be peace in the memories.
Rest In Peace Cody.

I suspect that the reason dogs live a relatively short life is because they give everything they have, right up until it is time to go. If man lived by dog rules, there would be a lot fewer conflicts, more naps and more playtime. The world would be a better place if all it took to make our fellow man happy was a scratch behind the ear and an occasional belly rub. Sorry for the loss your friend.

Sorry for your loss. I hate these threads. I know that my old Sam dog is not long for this world. He can't hardly see or hear. Mostly just sleeps. He somehow knows when I am at the table and comes over to sit and wait a bit or 2 of meat.

I am so sorry for your loss. Having to finally end the life of a beloved pet is among the hardest and most gut-wrenching things we ever will do. I hope Cody will be waiting for you someday on the other side of the rainbow bridge. It's my belief that love lasts eternally.

My family has lost 3 Goldens over the past 45 years or so. It is always difficult to say the least. However, you owe it to them to do what is best for them and so very hard for you. Remember the good times you had.
We got out current Golden from a Golden rescue organization and she is a first rate dog, just like the other 3.

I sincerely feel your loss. I went through this in December.
Your description of him at the end sound so much like what happened with Charlie.
It truly was one of the hardest days of my life.
I've never trusted any animal the way I trusted him, that's because he wholeheartedly trusted me.
Things will get better as the good memories will ease your loss.

Just want to say thanks to all you guys for your kind words and thoughts......
The coming day's, weeks and months will be tough but anyone who has had a pet for a long time knows that. This was our 5th Golden and it never gets any easier. Again - thanks Fella's!

Cody looked like a good boy. Be proud of him and yourselves for the happy life he led. I've heard it said that so long as someone remembers us, we're not really gone. I believe that goes for animal family members, too.
