Buttons, and dials, we have had our newest car a year plus. I just found out how to set trip set. I want my bright lights switch back on the floor.

Back in the 1960s my grandfathers old horse had a lot of that stuff, proximity warning, traction control, antilock breaks, lane maintenace, collision avoidence, adaptive cruise control, a GPS that would always get me home,
she even had a heated seat. No buttons to push , everything was mostly automatic.

It's the biggest reason I don't want to trade for a new or near new one. I don't see the need for all the computer stuff unless it's to appeal to the computer geek generation, no offense meant. A buddy of mine bought a new Jeep and IIRC you had to sit in the drivers seat, seat belt on, and close the drivers door before it would let you start it.
I'll pass.

My wife has a 2018 Lexus LS500. So much stuff on it that it is hard to drive because something is always distracting you. You also can't use half the stuff while your driving because you have to take your eyes off the road for a loooong time. Used to be able to just push a button, now you have to search thru the menus. I much prefer my 2008 Sequoia.

Turns out he was going on a long distance vacation, swapped wheels with better tread from one vehicle to another, but the govt. mandated sensors in the tire inflation valves were not compatible with the computer in the receiving vehicle so it was not doable...
HA!
Never heard of anything so stupid before in my entire life!
Been driving since '76 and the newest vehicle I've ever owned is the 1980 BMW 320-I.
Have had the '69 Chevy C-10 for 26 years now and the only upgrade is the GM electronic ignition distributor.
Got tired of changing points and condensers.

This old feller ain't fussing anymore. I am the owner of a 2013 Chrysler 300. It has a V6 'high-kapoopy' performance engine, all wheel drive, limited addition Paint color, with Custom, hand pinstriping, Heated seats and most of the factory whistles & bows. It has less than eight K. miles on the odometer. In addition to the regular owner's manual, It has a additional manual that measures 1/38"x4"x8", that explains the use of all of the special gewgaws, gimcracks, dedaws, and whoopykaks, not explained in the regular owners manual. After developing some health issues, It was decided for me, that I should no longer drive, and I don't. That decision effectively removes my worries about my inability to understand and use all of this car's capability's. There She sets, unused. Oh, well, that's how the mop flops.

My wife’s new CRV has lane assist, which I could take or leave, but I really like the adaptive cruise control that slows you down if you’re coming up behind a vehicle . . .

Many positive additions have come along, as mentioned above, and a few irritants, also mentioned.
My wife’s Subaru is very concerned about where my eyes are and that’s an irritant.
Tell me if I’m about to back into something, run into something or leaving my lane, but don’t scold me if I’m looking at something longer than it thinks I should.

I guess after reading this thread I should be grateful my '17 Frontier has no driver's assist features but the cab mounted bed light that illuminates every time a door opens, the doors that lock at 10 mph and unlock in Park and the windscreen defrost that defaults to cold A/C are at the very least annoying.

That electronic stuff is on Freightliner I drive all the beeping and buzzing is very irritating . The forward monitor /brake assist is set at 300ft and constantly beeping in traffic . It also sends false alarms and could hit the brakes. The lane departure sends a loud buzzer right or left speaker , I can turn it off short period time . The auto trans will go into neutral and engine will cutoff to coast , not safe with heavy loads . I can turn it off but have to reset whenever engine is turned off. Truck also has camera which is good to record accidents but some button pusher geek will send report you turned too fast or following too close. They have all this high tech **** but the idiots drivers still have rear end collisions and rollovers

On many vechicles that can be adjusted out easily by owner, look at your owners manual. If not user fixable many times a teck at the shop can tune it out easily for you! Should only take a couple minuet's.
I dread getting a new vechicle its not so much now what company, its what company has the least electronic garbage to contend with!

One thing that concerns me is the TV advertisements, often showing someone not paying attention to their driving, and the vehicle slams on the brakes to prevent a collision. Then everyone in the vehicle starts laughing. I think this promotes the idea that the vehicle will take care of them and thus it is alright to pay less attention than required for safe driving. A false sense of security, so to speak.
I don’t drive without seat belts and am convinced that wearing one kept me from serious injury when I was struck broadside back in 1994 and my Ranger was totaled - woman ran the light while she was distracted.
We are considering replacing our 2012 Volvo XC60. It won’t be another Volvo (this one is my 4th one) but have been thinking Subaru, Honda, and 4Runner. It may be that I will need to find a good used vehicle that doesn’t have all the “controls.”
I don’t want to be startled by flashing lights, bells, and whistles, or have the seat shake or the steering wheel try to move in my hands. And I don’t want the engine to go into hibernation when I stop for a light. I find these to be distractions in and of themselves.
Hmm, maybe I need to go have a close look at the old Dodge Power Wagon I saw for sale…

I am with you. The back up camera is a good idea and no doubt has saved a few kids playing in the driveway. All the beeps and whistles when I change lanes and when the car computer notices other cars on the road I while am trying to drive are aggravating distractions.

Most cars do that to guarantee that dry air is pumped onto the windshield. It works best once the engine is warmed up. My 2005 Xterra worked the same way unless you manually disabled the A/C.
