An inside job.

I have a bunch of cats and of them O'Malley is the most attached to me. He sleeps near by and if I get up at night he follows me into the bath room. That is because he knows I keep a big jar of Temptation cat treats there. and he loves them and knows I will give him a few. He also is right there when I wake up in the morning sitting on my desk which is near the bed.

Hmmm, this morning I wake up and no O'Malley. Odd, but, then he is a cat. I go into the bathroom and there on the floor is the big jar of cat treats and the lid if off. He had to knock it off the shelf by the toilet, then work the lid off. A safe cracker. I guess I need to tighten the lid, not just screw it on. I had switched to the big plastic jar because the smaller containers with the snap on lids had been figured out long ago.

Can we call it a cat burglar? Even if it has been inside all the time.

All 3 of our boyz are very creative when it comes to getting their paws on the goodies. We learned long ago to really grunt down on the top to the goodie jar when we close it.

Real men love cats!

Well, O'Malley is just your normal big lazy Tom cat with a pretty mellow disposition. Just a normal cat. Loves to be held and purrs. I can hold him belly up rock him like a baby and he purrs away.

The other Siamese Jumbalia is strange. Small spayed female fluff ball with big innocent eyes. Reclusive and doesn't much like to be held, tolerates an occasional pet. Took her months just to let me close to her. But, she is also a stone cold killer. Birds, mice,voles,small rabbits have all been victims and lots of them.

Cousin is a big white cat that is dumber than a box of rocks. Some times he wants petted and some times he acts like he thinks your going to beat him.

Buddy is still a kitten that was dumped here. He is here, there and everywhere and thinks my food is his food. O'Malley seams to be his hero as he follows him all the time and O'Malley only occasionally growls when he has had his tail attacked to much. He is totally fascinated by the gold fish, watches them for hours. Occasionally try a swipe at them, but hates it because his paw gets wet. How can they stand it living in that water anyway???

Cats are like that. Jake has a Zorro mask he wears it all the time.......

I love kitties, have always had them in my life, but you have to be careful around them and teach them about gun safety.
This happened several years ago. Please take your cat aside and have a word with them about firearm safety.

Cat Shoots Owner With 9mm Handgun

BATES TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man cooking in his kitchen was shot after one of his cats knocked his 9mm handgun onto the floor, discharging the weapon, Michigan State Police said.
Joseph Stanton , 29, of Bates Township in Iron County, was shot in his lower torso around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the state police post in Iron River reported. He was transported to Iron County Community Hospital.
Michelle Sand, a spokeswoman at the Iron River hospital, said Stanton was treated there before being transferred to Marquette General Hospital for further treatment. But Marcie Miller, a representative of the Marquette facility, said there was no record of the hospital receiving a patient by that name.
A telephone message seeking comment was left Wednesday at Stanton's home.
State police said he was cooking at his stove when the cat knocked the loaded gun off the kitchen counter behind him.

I had a cat named Winston. One day he figured out how to open the refrigerator. I came home and the entire contents of the refrigerator were strewn across the kitchen floor. A spilled half gallon of milk, a package of pork chops, leftovers, broken jar of pickles, mustard ....all of it. He'd throw it out and the others would sort through it I imagined.

Winston and his partners in crime were all laid out on the floor a sleep.

I had one cat who was an escape artist. We had to change the handle on one of the doors from a lever to a round knob. He quickly figured out the lever.

My wife knew a woman who had a "pet" porcupine. It would show up in the evening with its kids in tow and scratch on the patio door and she would feed them frozen waffles of all things. Said the never caused any problems, but then the woman had no dogs.

Were still getting over the loss of our last cat, it would be unfair to try and replace him...he was that great.
We had a Manx cat that my wife rescued, he was quite smart. We could not figure out how he could open our bedroom door, which is just a standard door knob. One day my wife swears she saw him lick his paw, reach up, wrap his paw up over the knob and pull the door knob down, his paw had enough stick with his spit that he could get enough of it up around the upper edge and pull down turning the knob.
He would also sit at the table in a chair and when foodies were put in front of him he could reach out and literally pick them off the table to eat out of his paw. He was not allowed to put a paw on the table and if he got lazy all you had to say was "Paw", he would sit back down in the chair and go about picking the treats off the table one by one.

Our problem isn't Marm, the feral cat who adopted us, stealing food. Our problem is stepping barefooted on rodent entrails on our laundry room floor that he "gifted" us.

Sophie is our indoor beauty queen. Won't eat human food except melon and strawberry yoplait. Ollie, Shelby, and Mr. Big are all feral tuxedoes. Brat Cat started coming around when he figured out we were good for an easy touch. He started out this little black thing but now he is HUGE. Ollie stares through the glass door wanting to come in and Sophie stares back at him wanting to go out. They are all out to train you to do something and they are pretty good at it.

As the old adage goes, "Dogs have owners; cats have staff."

After have several nearly full boxes of cat treats gobbled by our crew of hogs and thieves, we went to a steel soup thermos.

Lilly, our queen treat pig and thief, sleeps in a basket by the treat thermos (Hidden behind her basket) to make sure no one steals it or other cats get treats and she doesn’t.

I found the treat jar on the floor 1/2 a dozen times now, but he hasn't figured out how to open it if I tighten the lid well. But,yesterday it has stayed in place. I don't think he gave up. I think he is waiting for me to get complacent.

More cat humor though. Buddy, the kitten, was up on the table checking out the fish and started checking out a ribbon that had a rock on one end and a Mylar helium balloon floating above, which was part of wife's birthday.
Wife and I drinking coffee and playing our morning cribbage game and suddenly Buddy gets a claw stuck in the ribbon and then around his leg and the balloon goes around wildly, spooking Buddy, who backs away, and falls right off the table complete with rock ribbon and balloon. Zip, across the floor, balloon and rock in tow and under the gate between kitchen and laundry room he streaks. Balloon hangs on the gate and comes loose. Buddy spend better part of the day under our bed. Probably as much from the sound of laughter at his expense as the trauma of the balloon "attack". I near fell on the floor laughing.

The clowder here loves the Catnip Fever flavor Temptations.

I think it's a credit to the atmosphere of this forum that a post about a slightly delinquent cat can get 68 "likes". There is hope....

ps- I just realized that I'm wearing a t-shirt that has a quote by Albert Schweitzer: "There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life — music and cats." Amen to that.

We have our moments and from time to time our petty quarrels. But at heart there is a very good bunch people here.

You can't fault them for their generosity. Our reactions must be just as bewildering to them.

Mine has a curious habit of killing some small rodent, usually a mole, and leaving it right behind the wheel of my truck to be flattened.
