Default Is it me?...or...

I’m pretty much a newb here. I’ve been reloading and shooting for decades, but just recently joined this forum. The knowledge base available here is amazing. I’ve learned quite a bit in just a few short months.

However, I’ve noticed some really odd posts from other newbs. One guy, supposedly “a doctor by trade”, asked if firing a .460 without ear protection would damage his ears. Really? Would’ve you think a medical doctor would be smart enough to figure this out? How much education is required to answer a question like that?

Another, just this weekend, posted photos of his governor handgun trying to get answers about the crack in its frame. After much badgering by forum members, he had to bring it to his local gunsmith(on a Sunday afternoon?) to determine it was just dirt built up in a recess.. anyone else have a gunsmith, accessible within a couple of hours, on call on Sundays?

Also, I noticed similar posts where a poster will present a problem, then ignore the members’ questions that are trying to help.

I can’t help but think that these are some sort of trolls just seeing how much attention they can gain by posting marginally plausible, but fairly ridiculous questions.

I guess I just woke up with a knot in my tail this morning...

Most folks here operate on the principle that there are no dumb questions.

We want to encourage folks to ask their questions without feeling embarrassed, and we’re polite enough to avoid having folks feel ridiculed. That’s a feature of this forum that makes it unique.

There may be the occasional troll, but there are a bunch of sophisticated folks here so silly stuff gets recognized pretty quickly.

We generally don't air other posters' peculiarities or awkward queries..

If you genuinely feel someone is trolling then hit this and let the mods figure it out.

As Will Rogers once said, "Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects."

I, too, am impressed with the knowledge base in this forum, and I'm sure many of the questions I have asked in all innocence have caused some members to scratch their heads and say to themselves, "Is that bozo kidding us or is he just plain stupid?" Thankfully, they've been exceptionally patient and have provided me with answers without making me think that I'm an idiot. That is one of the many reasons this forum is so great.

For the totally uninitiated, there is much to learn from this hobby.

Ok. My question has been answered.

It IS me. I can fix that.

Thanks for the feedback.

"doctor by trade"

Perhaps he was a tree surgeon.

That was well said.

And no Doctor, firing a .460 without hearing protection will not damage your hearing, your ear drums will be long since blown out before the sound impulse even reaches your brain.

...oh yea, can the sarcasm.

Never in my almost 7 decades had I heard of a kalimba, had to google it.

Sounds like an old school doorbell.
