As to chicken soup, I like Gary Larson's take on it:

This time of year, Mrs will cook up a pot of either chili or chicken soup. Either one hits the spot when it's leaf raking season, or later on, shoveling snow.

I love it when the days get shorter, the leave turn and fall and the night get cold. It does mean soups, stews, chili, pot roast, braced shanks and other solid comfort food that cooks slow and makes the house smell so good.
We're headed for a hard freeze the next few nights so today we picked all of the remaining green tomatoes. We've had fried green tomatoes several times the last few weeks. This thread got me in the mood for soup.
This afternoon the wife and I whipped up a Carnitas Posole Verde with some of the green tomatoes and garden peppers. We shredded some cabbage, sliced some avocados and radishes. Topped it with a little cilantro, sour cream, a wedge of lime and some smoke pepper flakes. I might have another bowl for breakfast in the morning.

Winter has set in up in these parts-13 degrees this AM.
Today; home made Borscht, grilled sausage, and baked beans
Tomorrow; home made chili and sourdough buns with honeybutter.

Typical Portuguese food...
And my lunch today.
"Bacalhau com batatas a murro"(grilled dried and salted cod fish with baked potatos).
Another 1/2 liter of good red wine in order.
For dessert chocolate cake and a balloon glass of "aguardente velha"(we cannot call it cognac because the French "own" the name ).

My favorite variation has green beans and tomatoes instead of the carrots and peas but I also like that version.

I like to make Beer Cheese Soup, found a knock off recipe from the 94th bomb group restaurant that used to be in Fairfield NJ, closed now. I believe there might be a few left, last one I saw was near Miami airport.

My best efforts come off of the grill but I can do a decent Red Beans and Rice and a poor imitation of my father's Beef and Barley soup.

Kurusu...... I’m going to suggest that you might have a great future as a professional Food Stylist..... Your food pics are worthy of being on the cover of “Saveur”.....
