Chicken Noodle Soup.....
As late Fall moves towards Winter, I really enjoy taking walks outside. The cold fresh air is always very invigorating for me. When I get home and need something to warm up, I often go for some chicken noodle soup. Always home made. Typically made the night before in a large Dutch oven. Fresh vegetables, herbs, and a hint of sea salt bring the chicken, noodles, and stock to life. I typically pair it with some fresh bakery bread (with sesame seeds) and a little whipped salted butter. Magic!!
What’s your “Go To” food or beverage when coming in from the cold?

That sounds good. It stays warm here most of the year so not to many times that calls for warm soups and chilli but I enjoy them when it does cool down.

Another Beef Stew guy here.
Also love Green Chili Stew, I usually make it with Pork.
I sometimes make Green Chili Chicken soup with Noodles.
It usually turns out to be Stew. I’m not much of a Soup maker.

Ruthie is the Queen of the Crock Pot so I am spoiled with soups, chili, stews, chowders, etc, etc...
To touch on hitman77's point...an awful lot of folks around these parts, including us, pair chili with peanut butter sandwiches.

I pick a soup I like <about 10> and put it in a bowl and throw in a few hand full of rice and microwave 3 minutes and let set and chow down. Good with a Coke.

Roasted a whole chicken on Saturday.
Sunday made Chicken Noodle soup, carrots sliced, green onions, celery,Country
egg noodle's, garlic & onion powder, salt & black pepper and white meat
of the chicken. Boiled the noodle's in chicken broth.
Lots of chicken meat so it won't hurt your eyes looking for the chicken...

Mine is pressure cooker chicken soup...................
Raw chicken breast cut up into 1/2-3/4" cubes, with 2 cups of home made chicken broth with onion, carrot, celery, bag of frozen peas
and a cup of rice cooked 25 minutes on high.
Broth: Body parts & bones (w/o liver) with onion, carrot, celery S&P and any seasoning or spice that you like. Pour into containers, refrigerate over night and remove hard fat layer the next day.
Pour into ice trays, freeze and store cubes in zip-lok bags for future use.
I am working on home made chili, right now................ still have a quart left.
I also like grilled cheese but add a few sections of yellow onion and mustard for a little zip.
Did I mention a nice BLT ??

I like green chili.... and white chili with chicken.
It looks like you are doing fine as a soup maker. Green Chili Chicken Noodle Soup sounds good. It’s your kitchen, you can make it any way you want, whether it’s chili, stew, or soup. Or “Chilistoup” for that matter. Keep on Cookin’.

I typically go with beans in my chili. I also like to throw a handful of Fritos in the bowl before adding the hot chili. Then I put a little bit of shredded Mexican blend cheese on top.
When I make chili to put on hotdogs.......no beans. I have to make room for the chopped onions and all the other stuff that makes an awesome chili dog...

Wow!! That looks awesome. The first 1/2 liter of wine is to wash it down, the second 1/2 liter is to celebrate finishing the whole plate.

For beverages, hot chocolate. Every time.
For food, while I like soup, my go-to is minestrone, though potato-and-leek soup is also a favorite.
I also like chili, with beans, and topped with shredded cheese and diced onions.

To loose weight I would walk 5 K around the perimeter of the farm every morning before work (5 AMish) so a huge travel mug of coffee on the way into town. At lunchtime another 3 K to keep from having time to eat! and between 7 and 9 at night another 5 K! After the evening walk, often a pot of Earl Grey tea with the wife and a recap of the day, Except Friday & Saturday evenings, Then it was Hot Tody Time!

"What’s your “Go To” food or beverage when coming in from the cold?"
Currently it is a toss up between Corn Chowder and Homemade, from scratch Mac and cheese.

Ooh, mac-and-cheese is a favorite comfort food of mine. It's good mixed with chili, too.

Since chili has received a lot of likes, I thought a chili humor story might be appropriate.
A Texas Chili Contest
- Warning - If you can read this whole story without laughing out loud, then there's no hope for you. I was crying by the end.
Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the first two judges (who were experienced judges), the reaction of the third judge is even better. For those of you who have lived in Texas, you know how true this is. They actually have a chili cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the San Antonio city park. The notes are from an inexperienced chili taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield, IL.
Frank: "Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cooking contest. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (native Texans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted."
Here are the scorecards from the event: (Frank is Judge #3)
Chili Number 1 - Eddie's Maniac Monster Chili...
Judge #1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.
Judge #2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
Judge #3 -- (Frank) What the hell is this stuff?! You could remove dried paint from your driveway. It took me two beers to put out the flames. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy!
Chili Number 2 - Austin's Afterburner Chili...
Judge #1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
Judge #2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor; needs more peppers to be taken seriously.
Judge #3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face.
Chili Number 3 - Ronny's Famous Burn Down the Barn Chili...
Judge #1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick. Needs more beans.
Judge #2 -- A bean-less chili, a bit salty, good use of peppers.
Judge #3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting pie-eyed from all of the beer!
Chili Number 4 - Dave's Black Magic...
Judge #1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
Judge #2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish, or other mild foods; not much of a chili.
Judge #3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the barmaid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. That 300-lb. woman is starting to look HOT - just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?
Chili Number 5 - Lisa's Legal Lip Remover...
Judge #1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
Judge #2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.
Judge #3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead, and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off. It really pisses me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw those Texas rednecks.
Chili Number 6 - Pam's Very Vegetarian Variety...
Judge #1 -- Thin, yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices and peppers.
Judge #2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic. Superb.
Judge #3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I pooped on myself when I farted and I'm worried it will eat through the chair! No one seems inclined to stand behind me anymore. I need to wipe my butt with a snow cone!
Chili Number 7 - Carla's Screaming Sensation Chili...
Judge #1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.
Judge #2 -- Ho-hum; tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. (I should take note that I am worried about Judge #3. He appears to be in a bit of distress, as he is cursing uncontrollably.)
Judge #3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing; it's too painful. Screw it; I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole which has been eaten in my stomach
Chili Number 8 - Karen's Toenail Curling Chili...
Judge #1 -- The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too bold, but spicy enough to declare its existence.
Judge #2 -- This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild, nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted, passed out, fell over, and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he's going to make it. Poor fella, wonder how he'd have reacted to really hot chili?

We have a couple of favorites here at the ol' homestead. Of course, homemade chili is definitely one of them. So is beef stew. But here's another one of our favorites...homemade vegetable beef soup with vegetables out of the garden along with some homemade sourdough bread.

I like My split pea soup. When the peas are done I put them in a huge blender and puree. Then back into the pot with lots, and I mean lots of ham, diced onions , carrots, and some hatch chili's. Let simmer all day and serve with homemade sourdough bread and lot's of butter. Other times just a huge BLT with lots of B and T.

I make chicken soup all the time. All seasons. I like wild rice better than noodles, I think it holds up better. But the tip that changed my world was dropping a block of softened cream cheese into the soup when it is almost finished. If you like creamy chicken soup, this basically turns it into a pot pie filling.

Quick and Fast, Top Ramen noodles of just about any flavor. I like to keep a jar of Costco's Pesto in the fridge. Toss a bag of chopped broccoli in the microwave while I'm getting the water to boil, cook 2 bags of Ramen, drain, throw in the broccoli, add about 1/2cup of Pesto and some Parmesano and were good to go. I also like to throw a can of chopped clams in that mix.

As others have said, It's Chili time but I usually have chili in the freezer. I ate all of that a couple of months ago.
The other one I love for cold weather is Goulash but still have some during the cold months also.
What's really weird? I get huge cravings for ice cream in cold weather and hardly ever when it's hot.

I mostly leave the soup making to my Jewish wife. She has the unchallenged top around here. Her mother, the true master, taught her well. Tonight is potato, onion, mushroom, carrot and celery soup in a light creamy stock. My mouth is watering just typing.

Just finished eating the latest batch of my chicken soup. Hits the spot.
Three quarts chicken stock fortified with 2 chicken bullion cubes
1 large diced onion
4 stalks diced celery
7 diced carrots
2 diced zucchini
2 diced Yellow squash
2 handfuls fresh spinach
4 tablespoons olive oil
12 ounce canned tomato sauce
All white meat from a Costco rotisserie chicken, shredded
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Pinch Turmeric
1 pound three-cheeese tortellini
Grated Locatelli Romano cheese to taste
Saute in large pot, onions, carrots, and celery in the olive oil about 15 minutes. Add all other ingredients except tortellini and grated cheese.
Bring to boil, then simmer for 2 hours (carrots soft).
Cook tortellini separately
Place layer of tortellini in soup bowl, cover with soup, add grated cheese.

Hot coffee, hot tea, hot cider and hot chocolate every once in a great while. A variety of soups and stews and I also enjoy stuffed peppers.

My wife's Chicken and Smoked Sausage Gumbo, a big bowl with a scoop of rice in the middle. Some folks like a scoop of potato salad in there too, not bad but I'll have mine on the side.

I like a hot bowl of Clam Chowder. They never put enough clams in it, so I put in another big can of clams. A pat or 2 of butter smooths it out nicely, and a wee bit of salt and pepper. Some home made wheat bread with Irish Butter and a glass of white moscato wine to finish it off.

Love oatmeal on a cold morning. I like to soak steel cut oats overnight, then cook it in the morning. I like cinnamon, fruit, and honey on mine.
For people trying to go low carb, chia seed pudding, made with chia seeds, almond milk, and non-sugar sweetener, warmed up in the microwave, is a good alternative.

Agreed. (Although I'm about to make a load of chili in the crock pot.) My fav. is Mc Cann's Irish Oatmeal, which I make in my rice cooker and top with real maple syrup, cinnamon and some raisins. Excellent on a cold day when you have to be outside.
As to chicken soup, I like Gary Larson's take on it:
