Cola bier?
Ever heard of Cola bier? Well you know the Germans are supposed to be the authorities when it comes to beer. Cola bier is a mix of Coca Cola and beer, a German fad right now. Far be it from me to dispute the authorities, I'll be giving it a try!

Way back, in the middle of the night in the middle of E Tenn,
Saw a truck driver drink Coffee and coca-Cola.
He claimed it helped him stay awake.
Insisted we try it, I did.
It Made me not want to drink coffee and coca-cola!

Never heard of it, have no interest in trying it, even if I could drink alcohol.
However, Jack-and-Coke used to be my go-to cocktail, and I've also enjoyed a Rum-and-Coke.

Around these parts the Cocktail hour was very formal. Everybody had their shirt on even in the summer. Fighting over who got to sit under the Busch sign that had snow capped mountains was not allowed. A mixed drink was a double Wild Turkey with a ice cube on the side.

Mixing Bier with orange or other citrus soda (the so-called "Radler") is more common in Germany than with Cola, but these mixes are generally quite popular and most large breweries bottle their own varieties under "cool" names. Below an example

1989 in Heidenheim, Germany I saw a bartender mix Coke with wheat beer for some college-age patrons. Blasphemy, I said. Bartender agreed, but also remarked that he gives his customers what they want.

Well, now I'm curious...
How do the German beer purity laws factor in?

If you put alcohol in it somebody will drink it. Can’t be any worse than beer in RVN.

Actually no, it's called "Diesel" or "Dreckerts" (Dirty) and has been around as long as I live...
Here's a nice overview

I have had beer in tomato juice or clamato. Seagrams Crown Royal on ice is very nice.

Agreed.
I'm a shot and beer guy. What you see is what you get.
I like Coke too, straight.
I'm sorry, but the abomination mentioned in the OP is a waste of beer and soda.

Well, the most important thing to understand is that the famous “Reinheitsgebot”, the purity requirement for beer, isn’t a law, but in the course of the 20th century has degenerated first into a propaganda tool to keep foreign competition out and by now is nothing more than a marketing gimmick.
That can best be seen from the fact that “Beer & Coke” is legally actually not beer, but a “Biermischgetränk“ (mixed beer beverage) and as such does not fall under the rule, but quite a few breweries put “Gebraut nach dem deutschen Reinheitsgebot” on the bottle anyways, because it sounds good. See picture.
The actual permissible content of German beer is regulated by a jungle of German law and EU regulations too complex for me to understand. Not much purity left, though.

In the 1960's in Tacoma, Wn apopular drink was called
"A Logan Berry Flip"
A large glass half filled with beer, a quarter glass of Loganberry wine, and toped off with 7 Up.
Better than it sounds

Also in the 80’s, in France and Belgium, it was called a cercueil [sehr-cuy]
Appropriately, a coffin.

When I was in Kosovo as an international police officer, my buddies and I were often invited to the nearby Austrian military base to party. I saw Austrian police officers and Austrian and German soldiers mix beer and cola. Several times I saw the pre-mixed beer and cola as well. Me, I developed a taste for German wheat beer. Hard to find here in the mountains.
