A little rant and a question.
Right now we are getting a mail box full of political ads 6 days a week ( be glad when this election is over!). From all political parties, not just the one we are registered to.
They all go straight into the garbage can upon arrival. My question is does any one really read any of the political junk mail and been swayed by it? I can honestly say I have not even scanned one of them.
What a waste of paper and trees. JA

I’m good with all the political and other junk mail. I don’t read any of it and it goes straight to recycling, but it’s probably keeping USPS up and running for now so we can still get regular mail.

I totally agree BUT, considering the many jobs it provides from start to finish, trees, paper, ink, design, distribution even disposal, I guess it's not all bad!

Having lived through 3 campaigns for Mayor (my wife, not me...)
you have to let people know that you exist as many seem to vote by name recognition rather than qualifications.
(By the way, she won each time......)

This this and this.
Push cards and mailers are still an important tangible reminder of who you are whether the receiver consciously knows it or not. They work or people would not be doing it. Suck it up buttercup-it is a small price to pay for the right to vote. At least you are not the one paying for them!!
My office is in one of the best locations in tyown for sign posting. My theory is "If you ask, you can put a sign" one time we has several contested judge's races and I had 9 candidate signs in my front yard. I was called the sign "prostitute" As a side benefit, they KNOW where my office is now!

The political mail gives me a
chance to study the candidates'
faces to see if they look honest.

Yep, I sure do.
Pretty much ever postcard or doorknob hanger I get is from local candidates and campaigns for mayor, city council, county commission, state rep, contests that usually get buried in the frenzy of national elections.
Some of these folks I only know from the picture on the flyer they mailed out; better than nothing.
One year a mailing actually changed my planned vote for a state rep. A candidate I generally liked decided to imitate his national party and put out a mailing smearing his opponent with an accusation I knew to be false because I had actually been peripherally involved in the issue. I voted for his opponent as a result.

The thicker ones are great for mixing small amounts of wood dust with a variety of glues.
And we use them for gluing grips to boards for the carving and milling machines. Makes it easy to slip a thin metal knife under to release when completed.

While we get the political postcards and flyers, we also get, as registered voters, a couple of weeks before receiving our ballot, a magazine/catalog with each candidate’s pitch as well as explanations of what local measures on the ballot are about.
I kept the catalog and used it when filling in my ballot. It’s useful for looking up candidates with whom I am not familiar — which is most of the locals — and for understanding proposed measures.
I do give the postcards and flyers the old heave-ho as soon as they show up.

Why the endless myth about “killing trees” ?!
If you love trees, support paper and it’s use. Paper comes from trees that were planted and grown specifically to provide the paper. All the extra oxygen is just a bonus and you can thank paper for it.

It has been said that were it not for political ads every 2 and 4 years many newspapers, printers and TV stations would go broke. Mute it, laugh, toss them and let the politicians spend their money.
This time of year I do have to stop at the mail box before I take the trash to the dump.

We’re getting a stack daily and they all go directly into the trash can in my garage. I haven’t read a single one and we voted weeks ago.

As the weather turns colder, a couple of paper grocery bags stuffed full of political "hot air" magically transforms into an hour or two of comforting warmth from the old wood stove.

Yes, I read most of them. Mainly from people I have never heard of from states I've never been in. Interesting view points by several. Then they go into a box that starts my fire when the weather cools off.

If 1% of what candidate A says about candidate B in those ads is true, and vice versa, then none of them should be outside of the fence of the local Club Fed.
I remove the address info and dump the rest in the recycling.

I'm not getting overloaded with political junk mail. I'm getting some, from the party that I'm registered with. Not really any more than any other Presidential election.
The thing that kills me are the TV ads, especially during the local news.
With PA being a crucial swing state, both sides are going pedal to the metal with advertisements.
I almost miss the lawyer ads.

Our dumpster is less than 15 yards from the mail box and happily digests junk mail of any ilk year around.

Junk mail including political mailings go straight to the trash. No big problem. I already voted. I won't say for who because of forum rules. I will say, though, in local races which are non partisan I voted against every incumbent. I'm not happy with their spending and taxing habits.

I'm getting quite a few of them. I run them through the shredder and then put the remains in the bottom of the kitchen trash can. Works for me

I think a number of politicians will come to hate mail in voting! I sat at the computer with my ballot, and looked the ones I didn't know up! Their record spoke with my pen and many were found wanting!

I can always tell who sent the mailing before I read it by looking at how nice or how lousy the picture of the candidate is . . .

Election time signs are great when they are the wire base yard/ lawn signs.
My neighbors stack all their yard signs by me and I take them out to the farm,
They make great target holders at distance can usually last thru several targets,
Some don't even need a target as the guys seem to enjoy seeing certain names in the scopes.

Hmmm, so if most of you are just throwing the political mailers in the trash, and we all know that the media is lying to us, social media is a waste of time or being run by the Chinese or Russians, and COVID has a lot of you restricting your travel and contact with others, exactly how are you getting your information on how to vote on local initiatives and local candidates?
