A Nut Case.....
I like them all but after much contemplation, here's my ranking:
1. Cashews
2. Pecans
3. Pistachios
4. Almonds
5. Peanuts

I love almost all kinds of nuts and roasted seeds. Used to buy the big #10 sized cans of Cashew pieces at Sam's 2 or 3 at a time and the same of the Honey Roasted Peanuts.
Turns out that nuts and some seeds contain Oxyilates that in some people cause or contribute to the formation of Kidney Stones. Yep I'm one of the lucky ones and now I have to pretty much avoid them completely. It sucks getting old as the list of things that I can no longer eat gets longer.

For snacking, I'd say my favorite is probably smokehouse almonds. I try not to get them too often because I will sit down to eat them, and before I know it the 1lb bag I got is half-empty.
But I also like regular almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts, and Brazil nuts. Of plain nuts, I'd probably lean towards cashews, lightly salted, as my favorite.
I've had macadamia nuts in cookies, but I don't think I've ever had them by themselves. I've only had pecans in butter pecan ice cream.

I like them all but, sadly, I have a couple of teeth that need attention so I am currently nutless.

Ouch!
I am a cashew man. We buy the bags of little bags of cashews at Trader Joe’s and take along a couple, along with several tangerines, when out walking, so I pretty much have them, every day. Rich in calories, I understand, but I like ‘em anyway.
Also a macadamia nut fan but those tend to be kinda expensive for a serious nutter...

I would add Hazel nuts, Brazil nuts, and Pumpkin seeds to that list. To me Walnuts are merely OK.

Well I'm like Rusty. I have a few teeth but there's only 1 place on each side of my mouth where they occlude. Trying to chew nuts is a tedious adventure for me these days. But all that not withstanding I'd hate to have to pic a favorite. I love pistachios but I tear up my thumb nails trying to get into 'em. I love salted peanuts in the shell and all the others too but the problem is the same regardless. Front teeth are handy for apples and corn on the cob but not so much for nuts...

I forgot one. It is an acquired taste but I like and can eat pickled walnuts as they come pre-masticated.

And I...
Almost forgot chestnuts.
Roasted chestnuts are in seazon know. For a few coins you'll get a little parcel of hot happiness from street vendors around here. The aroma will guide you to them.
Edited to add picture.

Haven't tasted a nut I didn't like. Favorites are cashews pistachios and pecans. I like hazelnuts but they hate me. I have a weird allergic reaction to them, Throat closes up and I'm kind of partial to breathing.
I like peanuts too but, to be a PIA, they ain't nuts.

Kurusu, I remember roasted chestnut street vendors from my childhood in Germany. I don’t recall seeing them in the US.

All nuts are good and on my diet. I look forward to put out the big bowl of mixed nuts and nut cracker at Thanksgiving. All the more important, since I may have to pass on my one cup of eggnog this year.

I can remember cracking nuts on a piece of railroad rail my mother had for that purpose and throwing the shells in the fireplace at holiday times.

I always have a large can of mixed nuts open for snacking. I prefer to eat them a handful at a time for a melody of flavor....enjoying some as I type and watch the Pack.

If you cover nuts in chocolate, you quit caring which one is inside.
My wife buys cans from Sam's Club that has cashews, almonds and pistachios. I pick out the almonds for her and eat the rest.

I eat Cashews, Pecans, Almonds and Walnuts, unsalted everyday. I cannot have salt because of Conns syndrome. 1-5 people that have HBP have it. Most die never knowing why they have HBP.

Hickory nuts are my favorite for flavor, but they're a lot of work for what you get. Pecans come pretty close in flavor, and the two pound bags of shelled pecans at Costco for about $12 can't be beat. Planter's dry roasted peanuts are pretty good too. Black walnuts from Hammons Nuts are the best for cookies etc ... those are really good, far different and better than the English walnuts that every grocery store has.

When I was 7 or 8, a long time ago, there were Street Vendors selling Roasted Chestnuts in NYC....they came in a brown paper bag and were GOOD.....Unfortunately, some type of disease wiped out Chestnut Trees here .

Cashews, pecans and pistachios are all equal in my eyes. After that I would take sunflower seeds.
Almonds for eating only if they are smoked, and while I've been known to enjoy peanuts and walnuts I like them for cooking/baking more than eating by the handful. Growing up my dad would mix peanuts and raisins together for a snack.

I like peanuts, and that's it. Shelled or unshelled, I like them both.
But there are rules. I don't like them mixed with anything. No crunchy peanut butter, no peanuts in my chocolate, no peanuts in any Asian cuisine.
I'm just kinda nutty that way.
Hey, wait a minute! Isn't the peanut actually a legume?

I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention how much I like the toffee or cinnamon coated nuts that you get at places like the carnival or fair. You can smell them from a long distance away and the sweet essence in the air just pulls you in like a moth towards a light.....

Rusty1953, I don't know what's in the Ohio River that we're sending down to ya, but I'm gonna have to go down and have a drink! Must be from the Mon River, 'cause that stupid river flows the wrong direction to begin with!
