Tomato Eater Revenge
Yesterday was the last picking of homegrown tomatoes for this year. Lost quite a few to some kind of bud or insect that would eat a small hole in ripe tomato which would let other pest finish off the feast. I cannot began to guess how many fruits were lost. Got to the point of having to pick them soon as color appeared. Never could pinpoint exactly what kind of critter was causing this.
Was relaxing while shooting some 22lr when this fat healthy looking insect showed up. Watching him slowly climb onto the pistol I’m thinking you and your kind is what ruined a bushel or more of fine tomatoes..... and caused a fair amount of cussing!
As it eased across the revolver I’m thinking you best not make it to the muzzle. With a bang and giggle, revenge was served hot instead of best served cold

Shot one of those Katie dids 6 times in the guts and blew two of its legs off with a .177 caliber pellet gun and it just would not die. Finally stepped on its head and finished it off.

FWIW, I believe you executed an innocent bug.
Katydids eat grass and leaves - not tomatoes.

It was guilt by association, it was within three feet of the plants.
If nothing else, it wasn't invited to handle muh pistola
Justice was swift and harsh.
Searching the net for answers said birds would peck them for moisture when it's dry....I put a water source close by and it did seem to slow the attacks a little.
I can't complain. Had all i could eat and gave some away too...... Still makes you cuss when throwing a handful of big juicy ones down the hill.

Might have been stink bugs, they caused a lot of damage to my plants and tomatoes. I still have a few nice green tomatoes, and blooms.
Have a blessed day,
Leon

I probably would rather eat the Katydid than ever eat a tomato. It couldn't taste any worse.

Had a grub looking thing in one of my egg plants. Something took one bite out of my pumpkins and left them. My fruit trees are bare didnt get one piece of fruit from them. The bear and deers cleaned them. They hit my blueberries but we managed to freeze some I hope they last all winter. Blue berry pancakes rock.
Grew super beef steak tomatoes great season. Canned the extra for fresh tomato sauce for the holidays. The corn not so good. The animals don’t share. Spent $75 on corn seed one year got a few ears.
The bear ran off with my deer berry blocks

Time for a green tomato fry, the storm blew both tomato containers over. I could set them upright again, but they are predicting mid 30's this weekend . So when you are served nice green tomatoes, fry them!!
Have a blessed day,
Leon
