Default Bluejays and CAP

I’ve noticed a lot of Bluejays have made their home here recently. Never seen so many at one place so long. Pretty birds but they have taken over the feeders. A lucky chickadee makes it in occasionally.
They ( 10-12) constantly fly patrol over the yards running out most other birds.
Didn’t know that about them but I should after getting pecked in the head as a kid and I’ve seen the dogs and cats getting buzzed
several times.

They are common in Texas. While populations of other bird species rise and fall every year the blue jays seem to be present every year in consistant numbers. Grackles come and go as do robbins, cardinals etc.

I find the blue jays call or song or what ever to be very obnoxious.

It is a little grating. Luckily these haven’t been doing that.

I can remember as a toddler being over at my grandparents house and hearing them. I had no idea what was making that noise but it scared me badly. Now when I hear one, every time I hear one, I get a flash back to that time. Of course it doesn't scare me now but it still gives me the creeps.

I have a species around here called Stellar's Jays. They are very smart birds and know what time I get up in the morning by when I open the blinds and will sit on the railing of my back deck like extra's from Hitchcock's The Birds and look at me through the window.
Then I go out and give them roasted unsalted peanuts for their breakfast. It's cheap entertainment to toss peanuts in the air and see if they can catch them before they hit the ground.

The are like little T-Rexes, they like to eat Robin eggs and terrorize smaller birds. We used to use pellet guns on them, the cats got a couple too. Now that I'm a grownup I just throw things at them.

I don't like the Blue Jays, they terrorize the rest of the song birds. They keep them out of the feeders and eat up most of the food. I do what I can to discourage them. I agree with an earlier poster - they are little t rex's.

Blue jays menuices everything around my bird feeders. Squirrels will get buzzed by several at once.

The Blue Jays I have seen are rank amateurs compared to an English Magpie. I swear those buggers have an intel network and training videos.

So far the Blue Jays have stayed away from my feeder. I know there are some around, yes, they are loud and obnoxious. The chickadees and nuthatches have been very busy after getting snow this weekend.

Aside from their color, that’s one of their saving graces.

If you feed them, especially in cold weather you ask them to group near you and encourage bullying to keep smaller species out.
Birds, Deer or Middle School kids the principles are the same.
