Most regrettable gun sale/trade
I traded a 4” .38 Diamondback for a Colt 1911 ...even...in 1980/81.
...then sold the 1911 a year later because I needed the cash to pay college tuition.

Been trading almost 40 years. Worst was driving 80 miles for a meetup; deal was 2 1/2" 686 and a Colt's .22 mag 6" electroless nickel MKIII trooper for a "NIB" Model 17-3 and 4" 19-5. Except neither were new. Neither had boxes. Both had lots of miles on them. The 17-3 had "speedloader cutout N frame grips. Shoulda got back in my truck and brought back what I brung. Live and learn. My John Wayne style Big loop lever Winchester 94 trapper model in .44 magnum. I don't even remember why I traded or sold it LOL. I do know I was a dumb *** for getting rid of it.

The gun I most regret selling is this S&W Model 27 with 4" barrel. I don't
remember what dash, but it wasn't very old.

I probably shouldn't have sold that .357 3 1/2" magnum for $400.00.

Eh. You'd a sold the Diamondback if you still had it. I have regretted every sale or trade I've ever made, and I've bought back more than one over the years . . .

There’s my custom 218 Bee Small Martini out there somewhere.
And a Mauser 3000 Lefthand in 243. What was I thinking!

Dan Wesson 1975 357 4"&6" full lug,vented barrels
Colt 1911 70 series 45, primo condition
Jackass rig for Colt 1911
total price $350
New kid just come on the job, really clean cut, squared away and kept bugging me to sell.
Found out 5 years later,he got fired, could never track him down to compensate him for my soft hearted moment and get my stuff back.

I bought a new Rem 870 12 gauge in 1976, had to sell it for $60 10 years later, after the steel mills shut down and I had no money, was going to trade school only getting a small check once a month. Needed gas money to go to school. It's all good, but I really liked that gun.

Traded a 27-2 with a 3 1/2 barrel for a new when it came out Colt King. Co ra in bright stainless. The Colt was out of time out of the box and the mim hammer and trigger felt like a toy.My fault for not checking it better.

Lots, but the ones that hurt the most were:
Colt 1903 Pocket I inherited from a Great Uncle that I sold/traded off when I was in my 20's.
Springfield 1903 NRA Sporting Rifle I sold... not only is it now worth 10 times what I paid for it, but it also shot 1/2 MOA with irons.
S&W M18 I got cheap and sold off around 10 years ago.

A pristine Inland manufacturing M1 carbine carried by an officer during the Korean War, an elderly Model 94 .32 WS, and an early 1900's .22 Smith with an 8" octagon barrel, have no idea what model it was.
Had to sell everything to get out of a marriage during my mid 20's that had rapidly turned into the Train To He**

My cousin built me a nice 300 savage, and gave it to me for my high school graduation. Then 3 or 4 years later I traded it for a trap gun. My bad!!! We are still close, but I know I hurt him.

Oh you guys bringing up subjects that I would like to forget. Yeah, I've made a lot of mistakes in my many years of loving guns. Now I have given away most of them but remember the ones I traded for then sold too cheap. Wish I still had the old Colt Bisley 44-40 that I traded for a Jap sword, a 35 MM camera & something else I don't recall. I have 20 20 hind sight & no foresight.

Sounds dumb, but I regret letting go of an AK that I built. Ugly but a good shooter, and I wish I’d kept it instead of cutting up the receiver and selling the kit.

That's a nice 65, but mine had a bobbed/DAO hammer and some other custom work. Sold it to another member in the Classifieds.

In order to get a 686...
I had to sell my gorgeous model 10-7. That was 2012 and I've wanted one since. I just bought my wife a model 10 because that's what she likes. So happy again.

Mine was an original Ruger Blackhawk .41 magnum with 4 5/8" barrel. Learned to reload my own cast bullets over a charge of Unique for a light to medium load that was just fun!
Also learned not to use a plumbers pot to heat up lead outside! Lead was at casting temperature and a sudden rain shower made things interesting! Luckily I was young and faster back then!

The One That I really regret was my Model 19-2 Nickel 4”....I bought it new after graduating from the Academy and while doing what is now FTO..made my first Felony arrest with it.....A call was dispatched reference shots fired....We were around the corner, from a Bar on a busy 6 lane Hwy..as I exited the Vehicle, saw a Male lying on the sidewalk, eyes open, not breathing....A Subject came running out between the Buildings and was looking over his shoulder, I pushed him down and held him @ gunpoint....while in the Bar, the Victim had flashed a large amount of cash and the Subject followed him as he left and after taking the money, shot and killed the victim. The Subject had the money, and ditched the gun that was recovered.....
At that time, Smith and Wesson had regional Service Centers that repaired guns...I took my 19 in to get it checked and the Gunsmith treated me like Family....He did an action job on it and put in a white outline Rear Sight blade... He also gave me the S&W Keychain in the attached pics.
A few years later, as I was going thru a divorce, I sold my 19, along with some other guns, to pay the Kids Dr. bills, and Sears Credit card....

Have sold / traded some I wish I had back, but none I really regret. Figure I have owned about 400 guns over the years, and never would have been able to without a lot of horse trading.
Gave me the ability to experience a wide variety of firearms, and to settle on a core collection that best fits my needs and desires.

"Regrets I have had a few". Quote Frank Sinatra
I think my biggest bad was getting rid of my 1100 Remington 28 gauge skeet gun. It had the weighted magazine cap on it and it was the best shot gun I have owned. That statement covers a lot of shot guns I have owned or still own.
I used to shoot NSSA 4 gauges in the early 70s and that 28 I could regularly out shoot my 20 gauges score and on a good day my 12 gauges score.
After a few years I gave up NSSA and foolishly sold the 28 and the Mec 600JR press that made its ammo! If I remember right I bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44M.(old style) That gun is long gone also.

Thisn's a no brainer for me. It would have to be3 my Lew Horton 624-3. N frame .44spl. It is the most beautiful fire arm I've ever owned...or even seen. A dream to shoot. Perfect weight and balance to soften recoil and facilitate 2nd shot. Great trigger shooting single action or double action.

I've sold a ton of guns, mostly Ruger OM Blackhawks Flattops and Single Sixes, but the one (okay two) that I regret selling the most were an Olympic Arms AR-15 with a stainless fluted Ultra Match .223 chambered barrel and a Kimber Eclipse with an Olympic NM bushing.
Both were super tack drivers!

I've bought, sold, and traded so many guns over the years I've lost track.
I can't really think of one particular gun that I regret selling/trading.
Which I guess is a good thing.

About the only one I regret selling was a M649 I bought for a duty backup gun when they first came out. I carried that gun everyday for many years and we traveled a lot of miles together on duty. There was nothing special about the gun other than it was in the first run of M649's that came out. After I retired, I decided to let it go to another retiree as I almost never carry revolvers anymore. Let it go with the original box, grips, all the paperwork, a silver Tyler T-Grip, several different grips, a couple holsters and a couple speed loaders.

While there's a few I wish I had back, my single biggest and enduring regret is trading off a 5 screw K-22. It had a few rust pockmarks on the cylinder from the prior owner but it was the most accurate handgun I've ever owned. Consistently capable of headshots on squirrels at 25 yards.

I have a 3" Lew Horton 624 that I bought from my LGS years ago. It had apparently been fired, put away dirty, and forgotten about...it looked terrible! I bought it for a song, disassembled it and cleaned it, and refinished the grips.
I haven't fired it in years...it sits in the back of my safe...and recently took it out to post it here for sale. As soon as I looked at it, I put it back...

I traded a pair of ivory steerhead carved stocks for a Colt SAA for a Lyman tang sight for a Winchester '94. At that time it seemed like an even trade. Today the ivory would be worth about 6X the value of the tang sight. The rifle with sight is long gone.

Back in 2009 I lost my job and was putting a bunch of guns and ammunition through an auction house in Gettysburg. I did let go of a pre-war Luger and a P-38, but I figured these could be replaced. In a choice between my house and the guns I sold it was a no-brainer. The guys at the auction house and I still get a good laugh remembering how the body of my car was practically on the axles when I brought in the stuff I was going to sell.

I have regretted every sale as Muss has shared. With that being said I have not sold a gun now for 20 years, so I learned my lesson. Now let's don't even talk about the stock I sold or didn't buy, that is a really sore subject.

The S&W Billboard 1911 that I passed up years ago and the non-fluted Model 686 that I passed on. Not in the market for either one anymore.

sold a nice 696 to fund a new well pump for the property. I have since tried to buy it back, unsuccessfully, I might add. Last year I purchased a model 69, but sure wish I had kept the 696.

A 6 inch Model 28 with a Weaver Scope Mount. I had a Aimpoint scope on it and it was really fun to shoot. I must have had short term insanity. I was sane enough to keep the scope. I got another Model 28 bu never mounted a scope.

Mid-90's - I was not really a full-blown S&W geek at the time.
I'd been struck by a case of 1911-itis and needed to fund something in that category.
I decided to sell my M66 3" to a fellow Detective. I'd carried it for years off-duty and on an occasional special assignment, and qualified with it a few dozen times.
At the time, 3" M66's were not really sought after - it was just a barrel length not often seen. Mine was an Ashland model, IIRC.
Anyway, let it go to my buddy for $375.
Always regretted that - and about 8-9 years ago obtained a 'consolation prize' for myself - a M65 in 3".
I like it just as well.

Sold off a 4" Colt Python purchased new in mid 1970s and sold in the mid 1980s.
Sold off a CS9 about 15 years ago.
Wish I still had both.
