There is statue in her honor in Dublin. Some say she was a prostitute.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockleshells
And pretty maids all in a row

My grade school buddy Jason Oates' mom remarried and he was adopted and took the last name of her new husband, Adam Case, a teacher in our school. He got the double whammy in that deal.

My Dermatologist practitioner is an advanced practice nurse with a doctorate degree in nursing. She was recently married to a fellow who's last name is Seuss so she is Dr.Seuss. I am not sure whether to bring her green eggs or ham?

I went to high school with a girl named Penny Stamps.

My sister went to junior high with a girl named Henrietta Pigpen.

About 20 years ago, a very attractive young woman competed a few times for the Miss Texas title. But she never won, and I'm guessing it was because her last name was Outhouse.

My Grandmother Harris named her new born son (my uncle) Horace. Her close friends pointed out to her that in school he would probably be teased and bullied and called “Horse Hairs”. Grandma promptly changed his name to Robert. The original birth certificate was not amended, but a new one issued so Uncle Bob went through life with a non-existent twin named Horace.

Half off topic: But 2 years behind me in High School was a girl not only plain but had a bad attitude! How Bad was it? For her 16th birthday, her daddy bought her a Midnight Blue Corvette convertible. As of her 18th birthday she still hadn't had a date! Their family farm sat at the crossroads of two major highways. Her parents slowly sold the farm for top dollar. She never dated, and never married. She did inherit several million dollars, and still never dated or married. She adopted a little girl, who in High School received her mom's classic Corvette for her 16th birthday. Her personality was vibrant, her nickname was Sunshine. She was a Homecoming Queen. She married and had 4 wonderful kids. The moral of the story: Sometimes we can live vicariously through our kids!

Ivan

One of my college classmates was named (I suppose) Richard Love, but I never did hear him called "Richard". Everybody used the nickname. It's a wonder he didn't get picked on for his name.

When I was a young troop stationed in Germany (1974), we had a Platoon Leader in my unit who's given first name was General. It was kinda confusing when new guys were told to report to Lt. General Smith.

My 1st ex-wife's name is Elizabeth. My last name is Taylor. I made her a star!
Now this is real: when I worked in the steel mill, there was a guy there who's last name was Mehoff. And yes, his first name was John. But as you know, there's a nickname for John. Enough about that.

Local auctioneer's name is Dick Long. You know what that is when the form ask for Last name first.... And on the driver's license. He was quite the party guy when he was younger and got many a laugh for it.
